View Full Version : Family Locked Up

I am looking for help for a family lock up. I installed pets Friday evening and when I first played it, my pets were sunk into the ground while creating them, then when I added them to a family they were sunk into the ground again and the entire family and all neighbors on the lot locked up.

From there, I removed all my custom objects from my downloads folder and tried again. The family and pets seemed to move ok and I played for quite some time. Then I got another lockup. I noticed TSaudio errors in my error log and in my app log I found this message:

ERROR TSAudio: Failed to cache resource. 0b9eb87e:eb8ab356:ff8bceb2
.\source\TSAudioResourceManager.cpp(1221)

I updated my Nvidia GeForce integrated video/audio card and tried again. My family is still locked up and won't move. Their command bubbles appear above their heads, the dog barks and sounds work fine. The sims (pet and otherwise) just won't move.

If you have any ideas, please post. I don't have time to reinstall the entire game now as I have to get to bed, but I plan to do it tomorrow night after I get home. I appreciate all your help.

Just a small question. You did take out all hacks, didn't you? If not, you need to do this. Many hacks won't work with Pets and can cause serious problems.

I dont think this problem is to do with graphics but cc like hacks, make sure all hacks are not in your game and also that Tsaudio error always comes up with me but makes no difference to me
Hope that helped

Yes, the Audio errors seem to be an error in the Maxis code, and occur in everyone's game. For the Pets sinking/ sims locking up, turn on the testing cheats and get an error log:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=198229
Please zip it up and attach it to your post instead of posting it as text.

Thanks Simsample. I tried what you suggested through the link you posted. I did not get any error messages for any objects, only the audio ones, when I did this and I got no lockups when I used the maxis created character, Cyd, and his pet. I did attempt to log into my previous character's house though and it was still locked up. I am thinking that maybe it was because I used a family that had custom content prior to installing pets. The custom content was removed when I removed all my downloaded files and I also deleted the odd objects from the house right after moving my pets in originally. I will probably go ahead and reinstall the entire game anyway--always nice to have a fresh start once in a while. Also, I did notice a few blue cars driving around in Pleasantville--probably left over from the car mesh downloads I had. Unfortunately, I am still uncertain if there are any hacks left in the game. Is there another place other than the downloads folder to find those? I am sure a reinstall of the entire game will fix it and I don't mind doing that.

Thanks for all your help!

wndy26, from what I can gather all of your problems seem to be related to your User Data files- that is, your neighbourhoods and custom content. In that case you don't need to reinstall, just refresh your User Data. To do this, cut and paste your current Sims 2 folder from My Documents/ EA Games to the desktop (or somewhere else safe if you wish to keep a backup, but outside of the My Documents folder) then run the game. The game will now generate a completely clean set of neighbourhoods and there will be no custom content, no unlocked pet skins and no extra lots in the lots and houses bin. All will be exactly as it was when you first played the game. That is quicker than reinstalling! If you just wish to reset the Neighbourhoods, look here:
http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=138975
For the hacks, yes- they will probably be active wherever they are inside the My Documents/ EA Games/ Sims 2 folder.

Thanks Simsample. Sunday I couldn't find all of my disks so I researched how to reset the neighborhoods on this site and found the link you are referring me to. It worked great and my game plays excellently. I am sure those disks are in one of these boxes somewhere around here! We just moved in July and I still haven't gotten everything unpacked.

Any ideas how to make sure future downloads will work with the Pets EP? My daughter should be here sometime today--she is a download freak! Her favs are clothing, hair, and makeup downloads.

Thanks again!

Just check the creator's guidelines- hacks should definitely state that they are for Pets, other custom content should work as long as you have the required EPs. A good idea is to keep newly introduced content in a 'quarantine' folder- this way you can test them in game, and if they cause problems you will be able to find them easily and remove them.
