View Full Version : Homecrafter won't start on Vista 64. Bypass it?

A couple months ago I got a new PC -- Vista 64.

Can't get Homecrafter to run on this machine. I searched the web and tried various things I saw recommended... deleting cache files... disabling Xfire (causes error messages at Sims startup so I thought it could be relevant). Nothing works. Homecrafter just doesn't start (when I click the button, nothing related ever appears in Task Manager).

Lots of stuff doesn't work with Vista 64, so I wasn't particularly surprised. But I'm not crazy about the way Homecrafter works anyway -- specifically, the way it produces randomly-named files drives me nuts >< So I figured there must be a way to make wall and floor files without Homecrafter.

However, a search on that has turned up nothing :( Anybody here have any info?

I'm having the same exact problem. My previous computer that was running XP ran Homecrafter perfectly, then I got a new computer that runs Vista, and I can't get HomeCrafter to start up. In agreement, none of my favorite programs run on Vista, which is very frustrating, and that's what I thought the problem was.
Turns out that my friend has also been having the same problem, and he's currently running XP. So, I don't know what the problem is, HOWEVER:
Any excellent replacement for HomeCrafter is SimPe. It's a little difficult to get used to at first, but it's a fantastic program. You can save your package files under any name you like. ^-^

The following recent solution works; I can attest to it. I'm running XP, but it may be worth a shot for those with Vista.

- scroll down through the thread, you'll find the info in post #19.

Good Luck;hope it works on Vista as well as it has on XP. :)

I made a tutorial for people with this problem. You can find it here at MTS2. SimPE Wall and Floor Tutorial (http://sumomo.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=295411)
