If I deleted custom skin/eyes, would it severely affect my sims who had those genetics or merely give them different skin/eye colors?
EDIT: How do you download mods? I've tried several times, and it's never worked properly. I always treated it like CC and extracted the files, but...::shrug::

Why don't sims actually get additional leave when a baby is born?
A pregnant sim gets that message about being put on maternity leave, and the carpool doesn't show up. And then when the baby is born there is another message about getting an additional 3 days to care for the baby, which means that the baby should be a toddler by the time mom goes back to work, but the carpool always shows up for my new mommies. One time she had just given birth, hadn't even put the baby in the crib yet, and there's the carpool, honking that blasted horn!
I know this is not a hack conflict, because back when I only had Sims2 Deluxe (no patches required) and absolutely no CC whatsoever, this still happened.
Hmmm, are there just additional days put in the vacation time on the jobs tab, and the new mommy has to call work to say that she's not coming in? Did I just answer my own question?
mangaroo
16th Dec 2008, 10:53 PM
Melethana, that's the answer. In an unhacked game, a Sim mother gets 3 days of vacation added to her vacation time immediately after birth. The carpool still comes, but you can either ignore it and have the vacation subtracted or call in sick. Personally, I hire a nanny for the baby phase and keep the parents home for the toddler phase.

Chaavik made a UI Poses Override (http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/topic,98001.0.html) hack. It replaces all other poses with just 1. Thank you, but I preferred to use Dizzy's hack (http://www.nectere.net/smf/index.php?topic=1530.0) instead, because I didn't like Chaavik's poses, while Dizzy's makes it just like it was before AL.
If I deleted custom skin/eyes, would it severely affect my sims who had those genetics or merely give them different skin/eye colors? If you delete a custom skin/eyes, the skintone/eyes of your sims will simply switch back to Eaxis defaults (unless you have custom defaults to replace Eaxis', then they'll switch to those instead).
EDIT: How do you download mods? I've tried several times, and it's never worked properly. I always treated it like CC and extracted the files, but...:images/smilies/huh.gif: As for mods, the .package files go like most other CC into your Downloads folder. Dunno why you have problems, though. You'll have to be more specific - which mods are you trying to install and do you already have any installed before?

Actually I'm pretty sure if you delete custom eyes it'll show the eye that's on the skintone (technically it shows no eye, as it's gone, but in place of that you get whatever's on the skintone). It won't revert back to a Maxis eye.

Yes, you're right! :doh Anyway, the point is that nothing bad happens :)
Engram
17th Dec 2008, 09:33 PM
The eyes will revert to the eyes that are on the skintone if the deleted eyes were custom/geneticised and not default replacements.
The skintone will revert to S2 if the skintone deleted was custom/geneticised and not default replacements. This means that all your dark skinned sims will suddenly do a Michael Jackson and turn pale.
Also, if you have dependent defaults in place and you delete the custom skintone the default points to, you will have sims with custom faces and Maxis bodies. When removing the skintones associated with a dependent default, you need to remove the whole shebang, not just the skintones but the default file, too.

A few questions about Servos I didn't see in the OFB thread-
My servo got sprayed by a skunk- since they cannot shower does that stink go away on its own?
Also my Servo "got fat" from eating a burger- does it matter if its fit or fat?
Also I remember servos doing more then one chore- I had OFB long time ago, but cannot remember what they were like. But this new servo I have (just installed OFB 2 hours ago) does one chore and leave the rest of the house a complete mess. How can I alter it with Insim perhaps to make it happy to clean more?

I know you can't have two Bluewater Villages in two different neighbourhoods, but can you do it with the maxis default universities?
If I delete one of those maxis universities from the neighbourhood that is currently using it, will it appear again in the maxis bin, to choose in another neighbourhood?
Is the plural of "university" "universities"?
maven2379
18th Dec 2008, 07:07 PM
Nissun- you can have many University hoods, in one neighborhood, I have all 3 of the defaults in one of my hoods.
I can't really remember but I think that if your Uni hood is in use you can't delete it, the game won't let you, but you can add any of the defaults to any of your neighborhoods, they will be empty (except for default sims that come in them).
You can't tranfer a Uni hood with students from one hood to another, and it really wouldn't be a good idea anyway.

I'm having a problem ith attractions, I have two sims who I want to be together, the one had a negative bolt (unsure about other because I haven't played her since they met) so I made him drink that potion to change attractions, now the problem is, if I make him check her out he is attracted to her but he still has a negative bolt.
WHY won't it change?
Cyjon
18th Dec 2008, 10:18 PM
Attraction bolts are an average of both people's attraction so if he's showing -1 bolt then she is as well. He may well be attracted to her but she may be so repelled by him that the average is still negative. The love potion will make him more attractive but it may not be enough to push them into positive territory.
I use turn ons and turn offs if I want to increase people's attractions since its one of the few factors that a player can easily change unlike personality, zodiac and aspiration. If she loves formal and hates facial hair, have him put on a tuxedo and shave his mustache. I've heard that changing hair color doesn't help since TOs consider only genetic hair color but I've never investigated that myself.

Oh, and slipknot93 - I know that hanging 2 wall hangings on the same section of wall one above the other became possible with one of the EP's - Apartment Life if I remember correctly. I think the game does not understand the height of objects and doesn't know if they will overlap or not, and thus disallow hanging two objects on the same wall segment by default. But a couple of tricks will do it.
The simplest one is to hold down Ctrl+Alt while hanging the second object. Another one is to use the "moveobjects on" cheat (using the Ctrl+Shift+C cheat box).

I have a question:
Will a neighborhood eventually become corrupt no matter what you do? Even if you never delete sims or do other things that can mess up your game, can it still happen?
HystericalParoxysm
20th Dec 2008, 04:29 PM
novemberlove - Neighhborhood corruption can happen at any time regardless of what you do. It's more likely if you do stupid things like mucking about randomly in SimPE, moving sims from one neighborhood to another without doing it properly, or with serious neighborhood overcrowding, etc., but sometimes things just go wonky even if you haven't done anything wrong. TS2 can be kind of a flaky game. Now, is it -likely- to happen if you don't go poking at it with a sharp stick? No, not terribly. But it's still possible, and thus no matter what you're doing, it's a good idea to back up your neighborhoods periodically using incremental backups (i.e. don't overwrite the old backup when you make a new one).
novemberlove_SC
20th Dec 2008, 04:31 PM
Thanks, HP :) I'm afraid one of my favorite neighborhoods may possibly be corrupt (a toddler had a thought bubble with those weird squiggly lines instead of an actual image). Is that a sign of corruption?
HystericalParoxysm
20th Dec 2008, 04:39 PM
Yeah, that can be, though it may not affect the whole neighborhood if it's just one toddler. You can try going into SimPE and checking the toddler's memories and relationships - look for stuff that's got "unknown" or "$subject" in it. Might also check their family and see if anyone else has the same kind of stuff. If so, you may be able to just delete those entries and prevent it from spreading. Back up first, of course.

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to create a temple from one of the Zelda games but I'm having trouble on the outside. On both sides of the front door are two shallow pools, like the one found in front of the Lincoln Memorial. I placed two pools but I can't figure out a way to raise the pool floor so it is closer to the edge of the land. Is there a tutorial out there I can follow, or does anybody know how to recreate this? I don't want to use just the water tool because the edges don't look right, and I want to recolor the pool like the walls of the temple.
Thanks.

I'm quite lucky really when it comes to weird speech bubbles, I don't have much corruption because I have to keep my cc levels quite low :(
Ok, my random question is, a couple sim actions like a mother kissing ther child on the forehead while they are going to sleep, can i make my sim do that? or is it one of the things that just happens and i cant make my sim repeat it? Also, when a couple is in bed and one is awake while the other is still asleep and the one asleep shifts over and rests on the other, is there some way i can make them do that? (Run-on sentences ftw) Because i always want to take a screen shot of these interactions but i always remember as they are done or its too late.

the mother/father kissing her/his child on the forehead you can direct, once the child is in bed click on him/her and choose "tuck in", the other with the two sleeping (or almost sleeping) adults I believe is only autonomous.

I notice your location is the Czech Republic. It's possible it's just a bad translation - Sims have the opportunity to call "Emergency" (Police in the case of burglary, the Fire Department for fires). Of course, if you have a burglar alarm installed in your homes, and smoke detectors installed wherever there is a fire risk, then they'll come automatically when needed and you wouldn't ever have the need to manually call them. There is, however, no ambulance, so I'm guessing either a lost-in-translation event or a hack.

Those skintones are not defaults and do not override the alien skintone. They are normal skintones that are assigned to the PT. You cannot have more than one default alien skintone at a time. They are simply assigned to those sims as their genetics. So if you don't like the Maxis alien skintone, just put in a default replacement because it won't interfere with the multi-PT.
I have no idea why the game assigned the Maxis skintone to those twins. As skintone assignment is part of the birth sub-routine, I guess the dice fell on alien skintone rather than custom genetics. In the case of those twins with the Maxis alien skin - who's the pollinator? One of the multi-PTs or the Maxis pollinator?

If you have a fire alarm, firefighters come by themselves (yep, fire alarm connected to the central, isn't cool?). Same thing for burglar alarm and police. If you don't have any of those, you will have to call (however police never came fast enough when calling, they tend to ask why I called them).
I have all EPs up to FT and never noticed Ambulance. Was it added with AL? I'm too wondering what's the purpose. If only they got to call an ambulance to give birth to babies. Who gives birth at home, standing up?

Ambulances were originally intended for the basegame; my guess is that this is a debug option left over from game development (there are lots of 'remnants' in the game) or else a hack that utilises this.

Insimenator is a game mod that comes in 3 versions. One add options when you click on the ground, one adds options to sims pie menus, and one has all the options attached to objects (the one I like) If you follow the link I gave, and download and install Insim, you will be able to add dead family members back to your household. The only time I had a sim accidentally die, I exited without saving, and when I re-entered the house, there she was, alive and well.

any mod has the potential to harm your game, but Insim is one of the most used mods out there. Just make sure to only get one version (not all 3) and to extract it to the correct folder

The 'Object' version adds objects and only gives you options to do what they were programed for.

Added Mod Object- Plumbbob
When you click- Motive controls.

well I'm ok witht that as long as the options stay in the objects, no "make controllable" when clicking on a non playable sim, and no spawn or warp when you click on the floor.

PuX, if I understand your question (#1603) correctly, you don't have the EPs required for the lots that are crashing. Downloaded Sims are not EP-specific; downloaded lots are. There's nothing Clean Installer can do to circumvent the EP requirements for a lot.

I'm not sure about that one. I would suggest, if you really want the grave to stay with the family, you just put it in the inventory and move. Not sure why you would get a new one like you described. I usually send my tombstones/urns to a community cemetary. That way they are still in the neighborhood and your sim can visit but it won't slow down your sim's house.

Would there be an item on either side of the door that would prevent him from going through?
There is a bug (rare but still) which prevents a Sim from tracing a route from one point to another even though there is nothing in the way. When this happens, I try asking shorter hops. That is, ask him to go to some point but not completely where you wanted him to go in the first place. Other times, I make him do something else in the same room, cancel the action, then try again.
One last idea that comes to mind, perhaps you recently downloaded an object of a mod which doesn't work well and causes a bug.
If nothing helps, perhaps you could send a picture and hope someone sees a problem.
It's probably too late to mention, but I like to save often (I have an habit of saving every morning at 6am when they awake) so I can exit without saving and going back when something really weird happens

You can't use Google? There's a story there, methinks. Anyway, assuming you haven't altered any of your Sims program files by installing "clean neighborhoods" or catalog-based fixes, you can reset by deleting The Sims folder located in Documents/EA Games (on most common installations) and then starting up the game. It will regenerate all files.
If you have Downloads you like -- or anything in your user files you wish to preserve, like a userstartup.cheat file -- drag those files to a safe location BEFORE deleting The Sims folder.
Here's a wiki article (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Reset_All_User_Files).

The cheat "motivedecay off" will keep your sims needs at it's current level. You can turn the decay back on by replacing the word off with on. You can also use "maxmotives" to fill their needs completely. Just type those in the cheat window without the " marks.

Not quite right. Maxis was bought and made into a subsidiary of Electronic Arts. The Sims 2 does not hold the name Maxis on the box (actually some of the expansions do, but for some reason not all of them), but Spore released 3 months ago does. I think they decided to put the name Maxis only on stuff actually developed by Will Wright, the original founder (Will mentioned once that he had little to do with The Sims 2 and absolutely no relation with The Sims 3, however he did most of Spore).

Tom Duhamel

Please make sure that your Sims have completed the requirements for the promotion (both skills and friends requirements -- I often forget to check friends requirement) and that they go to work in good mood so that their job performance meter is high.
Remember than even though they have all the requirements and the performance meter is high, there is some randomness induced, so the promotion is not automatic, although it won't usually take more than 2-3 days for the promotion to come once all is in order.
Hope this helps :)

Is there a way to break up the marriage so she leaves with very little money, or at least so she leaves with just the basic 20k? slipknot93- the wall hanging are adjustable with AL to move them up or down press [ or ], you'll have to have move objects on to place them
I know this is old but wanted to add you shouldn't have to use moveobjects to put more than one wall item on the same space of wall. Holding down 'ctrl' and 'alt' when you have your second wall item should allow you to place it on the same grid space as the other one.
This came before AL btw, not sure if it was base game or an EP but I remember reading it in a manual.

clw8 -- The only legal trouble any Sims creator could ever get in is with EA Games. To avoid that, include their standard disclaimer on your site and do not distribute pirated EA items (i.e., don't include converted Sims2Store stuff in your downloads). Community trouble can result if you include cc from creators who prohibit sharing their items. It's up to you to decide if you want that kind of trouble, and whom you're willing to annoy.

Tom Duhamel

The standard disclaimer is in the EA agreement you accepted when you installed the game, you read it, didn't you? :)
Custom content made by an author is copyrighted by the author. That's what the international law says. You cannot distribute their creations without their permission (usually, they have a note in either the item description or their profile that tells about their rules regarding their stuff). Legally, they are entitled to sue you (although I doubt any would -- they will only make sure your name is associated with the devil within the community)

Copyrighted 20007 :)
Although there is no rule pertaining to copyright statement (as the international law on copyright applies to anything created -- the statement is just there to help people know the details) there is one standard method which everyone applies to:
Copyright © <date of first publication>-<date of last update> <author>. <rule>
example:
If I made a website which was first open to public in 2006, but I have update some content this year, my notice would look like this:
Copyright © 2006-2008 Tom Duhamel. All rights reserved.
In your case, it would be 2008 (unless you haven't made much progress since last year), and if you update anything tomorrow than it will be 2008-2009. I would put the disclaimer notice right next to it (just over or just under).
Although I am sure you are only going to publish stuff made by "respected creators", I'm sure what you wanted to say is:
All Custom Content Belongs to their Respective Authors
(Note: 'Author' has a legal meaning regarding copyright laws and I would use this term instead)

OH, the 20007 thingy? I diidn't add that, nor do I know how to delete it! It was stuck there by freewebs! But, I will do the changes you suggested, and, then hopefully I'll be all set!

Have the sim you want to live in the house- break up with Cass. If they are poking and arguing the "break up" option will pop up on her menu when Don clicks her. She will then move out of the house into the Sim Bin and then you can put her in another house. I am not sure when kind of money she will end up with. But if Don keeps the baby, Cass will show up every day to play with the baby once it has reached child age. (Atleast that is what happened once when I had it occur) Good Luck with your fun :)

Just a quick question..... since it is my work...Am I allowed to post the same homes that are on my mts2 on my own website also? Oh, and another question... if I have lots that were packaged using only lets say uni, pets, nl, and a stuff pack, but then i added an additional 3 expansions to my game, are those already packaged lots still saved in the same formatte [do they still ONLY require the original expansions?] Or, since i updated my sims 2 game w/ the other expansions, does that also change my pre-packaged lots?

My sims are still not getting any promotions, even when I make new ones. I have never had any problems with glitches the entire time I have had the sims, which is since the beginning. I have always updated my hacks for the newest expanstion pack and never had a problem. Could it be my new computer? I have been going nuts trying to figuare this out. When I downloaded the patches, it told me that I was updated for season and pets, was the patch in the newer packs? Help me someone please. I can use cheats to get the promoted, and they can get promoted when a chance card comes up, but just not the regular way. Has any one else had this problem, or am I just the crazy one

Well, here's a stupid question:
IŽ'm thinking that I want one last expansion before Sims 3, but I can't decide on which.
I have Uni, NL, OFB and Seasons. I got annoyed with the pets in Sims 1, so I know which pack I don't want. Likewise, too many of my hacks aren't AL compatible.
So the question essentially boils down to:
Bon Voyage or FreeTime?
On one hand, I like taking my Sims Downtown, and Bon Voyage is more of that, on the other hand, I like the secondary aspirations idea from FreeTime, and it could be fun to try the hobbies. Make the Sims a little more unique each.
So, go on vacation or improve the fun at home? I'm leaning towards FreeTime, but I thought I might ask since the stupid questions thread was here anyway.

It's similar to selling a masterpiece- you just have to hope that the novel they write sells well. Generally you must have a 10 in creativity though.

If you only had Uni EP those would be available as lifetime wants but if you have other expansion packs they won't. Althought someone over at MTS2 has made those into lifetime wants for people with other EPs too so you might wanna check there. And I think Uni careers are only available for the sims with university diploma and don't show up for other sims but don't quote me on that one as I haven't played Uni since year 2007.

Although my Sims usually make a life from one of the few jobs available on the day I decide to get them to work, sometimes I want them to have one very specific job (for story, etc). For that, I do use *the* cheat code (that is, "testingcheatsenabled" -- please google for this if you don't already know of this cheat, as there are side effects that you better be aware of when using it). With the cheat enabled, you shift-click on the newspaper and select *any* job you like as they all appear in the pie-menu. Although I am not 100% sure, I think you can also get Uni jobs without attending college with that cheat.
And for Lifetime Wants, when they arent' what I like (because they don't match my story for example) I use SimPE and change those to what I like. There are tutorials that explain how to do this, this isn't very complicated.

There are, but it's only possible with a hack as far as I know. Go here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7.0.html), select your newest EP and look for a hack titled "uni_ltws_sns".
As for not being able to find the careers, only university-graduated sims can work in those careers without cheating.

Ive got a few questions. Its all to do with "testingcheat" cheat.
1) can it crash your game?
Yes.
Basically it was meant for the developers to test their stuff, and as such it does a lot of things you are not supposed to have access to. That said, if you are careful it does a lot of good things too. If you are going to experiment with it for the first time, backup your neighborhood first. If you want to be safe, stick with what others say elsewhere, that is, use the commands they tell you to use. You need to be logical too. If it says "Kill all neighborhood" obviously you should not use it if that's not what you are looking for :)
If you are looking for safety, I would recommand InSim instead, it does a lot in a safer environment (although it could do harm too if you aren't careful).
Hope this is what you wanted me to say :)

If you just want random adults and children (to townify), it would probably be better to make them in CAS. When you use your sim to spawn other sims using the Tombstone, they all use the one sim's genetics - so they will all have brown hair and blue eyes or whatever your sim looks like. If you are looking to make townies it would be better for you to spawn the NPC and Townie Maker (looks like a repo man gun) rather than the Towmbstone of L and D because that will use a variety of genetics and face templates, not just those of the sim using the object.

I woke up today with a brand new idea. So I wondered if anyone else had ever thought of it...
I like to make neighbourhoods with different themes. But I hate how the sims can never meet then. So I came up with with making different themed subhoods.
A chinese, a winter wonderland, ect..
Has anyone done it?
Tom Duhamel
3rd Jan 2009, 05:42 PM
I play just one neighborhood, with a lot of diversity in it. Instead of one theme for a neighborhood, I kind of use one theme for each family.
My neighborhood is called Happy Valley (just 'the Valley' for the intimates) and I like to think of it as a place where different people from around the (known and unknown) world move in to find a new, quiet life. For example I have an elven family, a geek family, a rich family. Initially when I create the family, they are very limited to only what they should know and what their culture should be, but as the generations progress (children go to school with the others and get to know other cultures) and start using things their parents didn't. For example, my elven family started with a female adult and a female toddler, and didn't use any technology (no computer or tv, candles as lights, raw timber for wallpaper) but the toddler acquired a radio soon after she started school and learned about music. Her offspring now have a tv and a computer, and now have tiles in the bathroom (although the bath is still made of wood).
I wouldn't be able to play different neighborhoods at once. I don't play that many families at once. I usually play 3-4 families on rotation, sometimes giving up on one and starting a new one. I don't see myself playing 8-10 families in 4-5 different neighborhood, so I adapted the concept to my own play style :)

This question isn't really for something I need to know... But just want to know what you people think.
I'm thinking about making a Paris themed vacation site, which of course, doesn't meet the "Tropical, Oriental and mountain" categories maxis created. So, the only thing that would reference the nature of the vacation site would be the locals, and the memory my Sims will get, right?
What would you do? Has somebody made anything like this before? How could I change the clothing of the locals? Am I missing any other thing that would break the feeling of the site?

This is an really dumb question on my part. In my game, Alexander Goth, who is a teen, is head over heels in love with his classmate, Meadow (Thayer?). She loves him, too (judging from the hearts over her head when she fell for him, too). This is purely a sweet, romantic relationship destined to last forever...
Since I believe Meadow is a Townie, my question is when Alexander turns into an adult (which admittedly is a while off), do I have to break them up? If I can move her in, will she stay at the teen stage or is there some way to make her an fellow adult? I'm trying to avoid any major cheats...
I would be happy with any suggestions...

Thanks MacHeadMandi, and Lycoris, if you have uni you can send her to uni with Alex, or she could move in but I don't think you can do that with teen townies.
Tom Duhamel
4th Jan 2009, 12:49 AM
If you have Free Time (I believe this was added with FT, please correct me), when a Sim transitions to a new life stage, a box pops up with a list of townies he/she knew, and you can select 3 of them to age at the same time as your Sim.
If you can manage to move Meadow in, she will keep her current life stage but will be at day zero (townies don't age naturally), so unless you use cheats or mods, your Sim will become an adult long before Meadow.
Personally I use InTeen so that my teen/teen relationships can effectively last forever, but there is a number of other mods that would do the same. Without a mod, the relationship is lost when one of the Sim ages to adulthood. I know of a number of now adult couples which formed during teenhood. It seems Maxis isn't aware that this does exist (although I admit it's not that common).

Yeah, adopted kids don't count towards wants like "have ten children" or "marry off six children" or "graduate three children from college". I'm sure there's a fix for it somewhere, but I dunno where it would be.

Hey, I know this is a stupid question, but is there anyway to use up money?
I have this family that are meant to be on the slightly poorer edge, but 'cause I thought I needed more money than I actually needed, now they are left with loads of money. Is there anyway to use that money without buying loads of cars or something? The only thing I can think of is buy a vacation house.

simcharley & Zela: Just use the familyfunds cheat, it will allow you to set the household funds to any amount you wish.
Familyfunds X 10000
Ex:
Familyfunds Marlin 10000
It'll set the Marlin family funds to $10,000
But sometimes it wont work if there's a sim in the simbin with the same last name (that sim might get the money).

Charley - Go on to the neighbourhood and type in cheat box: Familyfunds familyname amount .. Eg: Familyfunds Gregg 300
