Beach Front Lots not usable

I have downloaded several different beach front properties in the past from modthesims.info. However, when I go into the game and try to place the lot witih the lot still touching the road, the lot will not place it self. I have the Sims 2 Deluxe and Apartment Life, but heard that I can have beach lots as long as there connected to the road like any other lot. Can anyone help me with this?

You cannot have beach lots if you don't have Bon Voyage.

What you *can* have is non-BV beach lots (sloped lots that are flooded with neighbourhood water), but those are not marked as "beach lots" since they're technically just regular lots with a slope – they only work as "beach" when placed next to the shore and decorated like a beach.

I actually prefer those non-BV beach lots since they're much more flexible than BV ones (you can make them any size and shape you want, and make them swimmable and fishable too). You could look at my "Elsewhere" neighbourhood (link in signature) which has quite many non-BV beach lots to get an idea of what can be done without BV.
