I love old school R&B from the 80's and 90's as well as some newer stuff from older artists.

Here's some of my favorites:

Whitney Houston
Janet Jackson
Boyz II Men
Usher
Mario
Natalie Cole
Dionne Warwick
Anita Baker

So who are some of your favorite R&B singers from past and present?

None to be honest. But one song here in there sounds decent.

Most RnB songs I heard were about sex and prostitutes...So yeah, not really my thing, no offence.

Like I said you bump into one decent song here and there.

Like I said you bump into one decent thong here and there.

I feel like you must listen to music differently than other people...

My whole class listened to RnB. I never heard anything but" lets f**k that b**ch" in every song. Disturbing.

You are thinking of Hip Hop my friend. R&B is not like that at all. *sigh*

Heh... I was actually just referring to how you said you "bumped into one decent thong here and there" which I'm assuming was a typo. And I thought it was amusing because apparently I'm immature. ;)

I'm actually not very familiar with contemporary R&B... it's not a genre that I've had much exposure to. There are a few much older songs I like that apparently fall into the earlier definition of R&B, but I really don't know anything about the current stuff.

LOL

Okey now I see what you are :rofl:ing about. Edited for feature readers XD

Jon: I really wouldn't know, they are all similar to me. Either way neither sound good to me.

I'm a big fan of:

Jill Scott,
John Legend,
Lauren Hill,
India.Arie,
Musiq Soulchild,
early Mariah Carey (I'm not sure if that classified as R&B or Pop),
Boyz II Men,
Mary J. Blige
The Boys (but no one ever remembers them) and
some of Ne-yo's stuff

But I'm mostly ol' skool (okay...so back in the 90's early 2000's). Older than that, I LOVED The Temptations and Michael Jackson (before Black and White Album for sure)

Erykah Badu
Mary J. Blige

And i'm also a HUGE 60's and 70's R&B fan thanks to my grandmother. The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, the ever-so-lovely miss Aretha Franklin, The Impressions, Chaka Khan, Sly and the Family Stone, and Diana Ross are among the few of the many wonderful artists and groups from this era.

Personally I would say that between Jon's list (well minus Mario and Usher where the next note I hear by either will be the first) and Thelightelectric's classic R&B choices, this subject has been pretty well covered.

Only additions I can think of to add following thelightelectric's lead and going old school are:

Smokey Robinson
Percy Sledge
and maybe Jerry Butler
