I recently brought a HTC Wildfire phone which supports Google's Android system. To be honest I haven't had a look at the applications yet which are offered by Android, but I have seen some of those offered by Apple for their iPhone - one of the the direct competitor for Android phones (although Android is a system that can be used on brands of phone not belonging to Google, whereas to use the Apple apps you have to have an iPhone/iPad/iTouch).
Therefore I want to know whether you think android applications are better than apple applications. Not to justify my own purchase, but simply because my boyfriend wants to buy an iPhone because he thinks that the apps are better, and as someone who doesn't really know much about either I'm interested in what the general opinion on them are.

Why? It's meant to be a debate, can hardly have one if you don't give a reason for your opinon. :)

I am very interested in technology, I have read about many android phones such as the HTC Incredible or the EVO or even the Droid X, simple Android is windows, iPhone is Apple, and Windows Phone 7 is something in between that is trying very hard to win and it could because it has a super UI which will be copied and modified on both.
Apple has one advantage is more user friendly, and has a filtered app store and lots of content, android is windows its free and open but doesn't come with anything.

My sister has an Android (Nexus One), I've an iPhone, so I've seen and used both.
Android is delicious looking and very well done, especially its integrations with the google services. The iPhone has an incredible amount of apps - if you're looking for those, then the iPhone is best (then again, it's also a lot older). It's not rare to have apps for both systems, made by the same companies. The iPhone has a ridiculous amount of games, too. It's not that they're better, but there's a helluva lot of them.

The thing about Apple apps however is that they're rarely free. One of my friend's boyfriend has an iPhone, and I managed to download about 3/4 of the apps he paid for on Apple for free on Android, only one was a trial version. Things like Toss It, Bazaam.
Not only that, but I find android phones more reliable. Google is a plus too. Take the new iPhone for example - how many faults were there?! I think the success of the iPhone is more to do with branding rather than actual quality.

Android is based on Linux, not on Windows! That's why it's free and why so many of its apps are free (just like Linux is for desktops).
Windows Mobile (and the new Windows Phone 7) is, of course, the version of Windows for mobile devices.

I have the HTC Wildfire, which is the same as Desire apart from slightly smaller size (physically and memory). Very happy with it also, and I only pay £20 a month for it (about $35 dollars a month... I think, not very good at conversions without calculators).
I haven't had to pay for any app yet, and most of the trial versions of games are free and unlimited play but with only a few levels, or the full features but so only for a month (the latter I have only experienced once, with Shazzam). I am actually considoring buying an application because I enjoy it so much and want to unlock the extra levels (Farm Frenzy).
I liked the iPhone when I first handled one (never owned one) but the thing I thought it was lacking was customisation. My HTC Wildfire lets me customise pretty much everything, for free.
