Hiya y'all! :D

Okay, a friend just gave me a ridiculous idea and I'm now looking for a D&D kinda game where you can design your entire party instead of just a main character. Alas, I have no clue if such a game exists and where to look for it.
So I thought I'd ask you guys.

I want to design a party of up to 6 characters and throw them in an adventure, if possible.

Does anyone know of such a game?

Uh... real D&D? I'm assuming you mean that online D&D stuff? Which I've never played. Your wording throws me off a bit, that's why I'm asking.

Not even remotely D&D related at all, but the DOS game Wasteland is an RPG which allows you to set the stats of your party in the beginning of the game.
That post will serve for my excuse for partly congratulating you on your excellent taste in comic books, and partly chastising you for not realising that Flintheart Glomgold is infinitely more awesome.

Neverwinter Nights 2, which was based on 3.5 edition D&D, and its last expansion allowed you to design an entire team of four. Can't say it was a great experience for me though. I liked the original game and the first expansion (Mask of the Betrayer) but I'm having trouble remembering the name of the second expansion - oh, Storm of Zehir, I think. I found the story for that a bit lacking and only played it once. Some people loved it at the time though. I guess YMMV. The thing I find about RPGs is that having companions designed by the game-makers is more interesting than a group entirely designed by you. So the original story for NWN2 (and NWN for that matter) and MoTB was more interesting for me to play because you had these characters to interact with and who had their own agendas and stuff to say. It's been done again and again with later RPGs - The Witcher, Mass Effect and so on (all of which I love). NWN2 is, it should be said, an oldish game now - it was released in 2006. I mean, the graphics were great at the time and I have some great pictures but it's not the latest, latest thing. OTOH, if you buy it now, it'll be cheap.

Well, Icewind Dale allows you to design your whole party, but there's very little in the way of roleplaying. It's mainly a hack-and-slash with a little bit of plot. And it's fairly old, so the graphics won't be very impressive.

Heard of Virtual Villagers? It's not exactly D&D, more like Sims, but limited(:faceslap:Last thing you want to hear, right?) You can't design characters, but you can pick them and start them off on a deserted island. There are little quests for you to complete as well. You can pick their job, their partner, how many kids, but you can't tweak the kids' appearance, either. :(

Master of Magic is a free ( you can find it legally free, iirc ) 4x game with up to 8 heroes. You can't change their appearance but you can pick the ones you like and rename them, give them godly magical items that you create, etc.

The only problem is, will it work with Windows 7, Vista, XP?

Oh hey, what about Syndicate?

Your best bet would be to turn to the Baldur's Gate series or the original Neverwinter Nights in a pinch.

Neither of those lets you customize your whole party. :P

I think this one has been updated. You design 4 out of the 6 characters in your party. This was my favourite of the series though it may be kind of old.

Anyway it's Pool of Radiance

Baldur's Gate you can design your party - just not with the game engine as it stands. I would guess it was a third party mod that allowed you to do it. Basically, you could substitute your own party members into the given roles. So you could make your own Jaheira for instance though why anyone would want to redesign Minsc is beyond me. Also, the sprites were so small on screen that it would be hard to see the difference in the models - the portraits, on the other hand. But then that is less interesting.

Baldur's Gate II had a LAN multiplayer option that when configured right let you basicaly play with an entire party made of your own designed characters, no mods needed :)
