View Full Version : Why do so many people seem to hate simbots?

Poor little things! Simbots are charming, handy, they don't clutter up the bathroom and their greatest joy is chatting up the microwave - why do people dislike them so much?

The only thing I can think of is the freak out that ensues when a normal Sim meets one. The 'OH SWEET GOD WHAT IS THAT HUMPING MY TELLY' reaction's the only thing *I* don't like about 'em anyway O_o

Love Simbots. Probably one of the better character types in the game. Only thing I find annoying is their insistence to play in water which shorts them out constantly.

I find this particularly annoying when one simbot reacts to another simbot. :faceslap:

Add me to the list of people who hate them. I just wanted a man-slave to go around and clean my house for free, unlike the butler. Instead, simbots are like regular sims, but uglier.

D: LOL
'OH GOOD GOD IT'S A ROBOT'
'...Wtf...You're one too!'
'I am...? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF I AM *epic freak out*'
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Sims r smrt.
Thankfully I've not seen that x_x the non retard freak out at Simbots mod...thing (I am technical) on here works wonders. Until you take one of the sods on holiday, anyway. Grumble grumble

I was so excited when simbots were added to the game but they weren't as good as I had hoped.
If you don't use the mod to stop it the continual freaking out by everyone around them makes simbots unplayable. Other than that I find their needs are too similar to humans, I think they aren't robotty enough!
And you can't change their colours, if I make a robot I should be able to paint it any colour I want!

I agree with Misanthrope. I was so disappointed when I realised they don't cook/clean etc for you. They are pretty much just like any other regular sim so what's the point? They're shiny?

That is one thing that I find annoying too. I understand the vampire/mummy/ghost reactions, but I don't quite understand the Simbot reaction.
I tend to just use the No Autonomous Reaction to Simbots (http://www.modthesims.info/d/406959) mod.
Add me to the list of people who hate them. I just wanted a man-slave to go around and clean my house for free, unlike the butler. Instead, simbots are like regular sims, but uglier.
:alarm: NOTE: The Slavebot Mod is outdated and do not use if you have late night or higher installed. I will still keep the link down below in case someone is still running the old version of Sims Ambitions. :alarm:
What I like to use is the Slave Bots (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=18998.0) mod so that they will act more like Servos instead of metallic sims.
Here is a summary of the mod:
This is a mod to turn Simbots into Slavebots. They now compulsively clean any dishes on the lot/clean counters/do the laundry and whatever else maids do when they are on the job. They also compulsively fix any broken appliances/bots just like the repairman does when he is on the job. (Basically, they do anything a maid or repairman does just like they were a maid or repairman). This mod also makes it so that sims will put away leftovers that are sitting out so they don't spoil. They also autonomously water, weed, harvest and revive your plants as well as disposing dead plants.
The second file in this mod makes it so that when a simbot eats scrap it fully recharges not only their hunger but its energy and bladder as well. I made this one because I don't think robots should sleep in a bed or pee in a toilette. That is just creepy.
This is another version of the scrap eating mod. It will not fully recharge the simbot's hunger level. Instead it will add 50 points. (From a range of -100 = starving to 100 =full). So he'll eat about once about every 4.5 hours. This version still fully recharges the simbot's energy and bladder. I did this so that there would be a little bit of a drawback from not having to sleep or pee. But mostly I didn't want my simbots to use the bathroom just because their bladder got full and they weren't hungry yet or decide to sleep because they got tired and weren't hungry. (I had a sim do that once, although every other time they ate scrap to satisfy their bladder/energy needs... but still, I didn't want to risk it.)
This gives the Slavebots the ability to autonomously tinker with objects to upgrade them. There is no sanity check so they will autonomously change the upgrades on objects. For example, they will tinker on an object and make it unbreakable. Then later they might come back and tinker again making it self-cleaning again. I made the call to tinker much less strong than the calls to do maid work and whatnot so they are much less likely to do it and more likely to do other things like read books or clean the lot if it is dirty.
This addon does NOT make it so they will garden or do maid work or repair objects. If you want them to tinker AND do maid work/garden/do repairman work then you will have to install both this mod and the slavebot mod.
This mod does not require the Slavebot mod to work, but without it they will just autonomously tinker and won't be compelled to do maid work, repairman work or garden.

I don't hate Simbots, like every supernatural "being" in The Sims games - werewolves, simbots, vampires, witches.... am I missing any others?... I just ignore them. They don't belong in my game and so I have them. When LN came out I didn't have problems with Vampires, they were around but they weren't overwhelming in my game. I had to go find a vampire to befriend and have him turn me. And I have to honestly say I actually like the vamps in TS3 than I did in TS2. I have exactly 2 vamps in my game. Most of the vamps I see are in Bridgeport. In the other worlds like Sunset Valley, Riverview, Twinbrooks my sim families know all of 4 vamps or less. I think Riverview doesn't have any vamps at all.

I really do miss Servos...

I never had a problem with this mod personally, but I never use the butlers either (which seems to be what the mod is conflicting with). Hopefully, it will someday be updated so it is compatible with the butlers with Late Night though. :)

I like simbots too :) My favorite exotic sim. Though I agree that the "no simbot reaction" mod is a necessity.
As for making em autonomous cleaners etc... I can't do that to ANY controllable sim. They have their own wants and needs that they have to focus on! They become full members of my families :)
I think somebody figured out how to make a butler into a simbot, or make a simbot into a butler... that might be the way to go if that's what you want.

I totally love them, specially after being so deceived with the sims2 version (even with a ton of mods they always had to spend their time on the phone using autoyack otherwise they would be depressive  ). I LUV the sounds they make, the way they walk and how they hover instead of running! And they're very easy to transform into slaves:
* Grab the no simbot reaction mod.
* Grab the neat bed wintermute posted here at MTS, really cool looking.
* Change the traits of your bot to Hydrophobic (you HAVE to keep it), Green thumb, Natural cook, Neat, Handy.
Optional/advises:
* Don't use the slave mod on MATY, it's waaaay outdated.
* You can customize their appearance with an edit in CAS cheat: give them a skin, clothes etc if you want to have a cool looking cyborg.
* With Twallan's careers mod you can make a repairman out of your simbot. ^^
To change the traits without cheating: have your simbot play with a sprinkler or swim in a pool, it'll short out, reprogram it with a sim (preferably skilled in handiness - you can get electrocuted). Or testing cheats enabled and shift click on the simbot 'Change traits' or something. For the food, a weekly trip to a junkyard to search a junkpile for scraps will be way enough. For the socials, a few minutes chat with the microwave or the coffee machine is enough to fill their bar! YAY for efficiency!
Zam! Slaves that don't need any other sim to work all day long :D As soon as my families reach a 100k of LT points I generally first reward them with a simbot to do all the housework/gardening/upgrading/baby sitting. Click on floor to use the neat 'Clean lot' option and you're set.

My simbot came with hydrophobic. :)
He's also a kleptomaniac, so while I had him salvaging at the junkyard he stole a junkpile. It ended up next to his bed as his own private food stash. (He's also a Mooch. I've considered re-naming him Bender.)

I love SimBot, they make wonderful companions, especially with Story Progression, all my service/role sims turn to SimBot: bartender/mail carrier/paparazzi...They don't wear clothes or pudding faces, so I don't have the impulse to send every of them to CAS.

I like Simbots better than mummies and vampires in Sims 3, but in Sims 2 I prefer Vamps over the Servos.

I couldn't figure out how to use them in TS1, I hated them in TS2 because they were so ugly and they lived for-ever and were not really that special. I haven't played them in TS3 so i don't know where in the scale of love-hate would I fall with them. But, I do like how they look now, and some of the interactions, like eat metal and chat up appliances sounds like a nice improvement.

How do you not know how to use TS1 servos? You plop it down, have your sim turn it on and it does all the rest itself. TS1 servos were the best thing since sliced bread AND sliced cheese. The only thing more awesome was Broomhilda. Later versions of Simbots are really a disappointment. I want an automated machine darnit, not a metallic sim that even needs to sleep and go potty! If I wanted a sim I'd just make a "nanny/gramma" character.

This is too funny. Ok, my 2000 cents submitted for approval or otherwise. Well fairycake, I'd guess because EA has made the Sims 3 bots flaky, disruptive, stubborn, and cantankerous. They are dangled at us as beneficial servants, and what we get is this ornery flake that scares everyone. I think that's pretty funny. The joke's on us. They can programmed to be more cooperative, and it takes time for them to settle in. At best, they still scare people and are flaky in my experience.
My active household is the Duke Nukem estate. 60x60 with mansion and huge back yard. 4 sims and three simbots. Here's what I do with these simbots: They are farm machinery and are programmed as such. Sequestered in the back yard, they service and harvest a money tree grove of 190 money trees and building. Using multiple gates programmed for individual sims, these bots can't get into the house or off the property. They are kept in a secured pen when they are not working so they stay out of the sprinklers. After a while, they stop scaring each other and blowing out their orders, (for the most part). They still scream at each other a lot though. I fill their needs and then must cue up their duties each morning multiple times. Like "weed" 4 to 8 times in a row. When done, back into their bot-pen they go and are locked in there. They have a TV to watch and a microwave to make out with. I got them the iron bladder and they need no toilet, but a toilet is needed for when they vomit. They get dizzy like any other sim when using the harvester at times. Add super green thumb, meditative trance sleep, and hardly hungry.
A new simbot will freak out constantly. I pen them up with a bed and let them go nuts. They settle down after a day or two. They'll be fine, just give them some time.
One of my simbots is the town menace. He comes out at night and detonates things. He crashes parties and starts blowing things up inside folk's houses, blows up beds with innocent sims sleeping in them, blows up cars outside, lawn furniture, etc.. I have the lifetime reward of inappropriate behavior going unnoticed, but he still get's thrown out of people's houses sometimes. That bot was very obnoxious when I got him. He was harassing Duke all the time, but he stopped after I had Duke beat the daylights out of him.
So far, the bots service the money tree grove of 16 sprinklers, and a three-sprinkler area of perfect garlic for fertilizer and all the rest of the perfect plants to stock the fridge. I'm at 250 to 380 money bags a day and am shooting for $1,000,000 a week from the simbot operated groves. I'm close to that with about 180 producing trees. Money trees are planted in a checkerboard pattern. It's important to let them have room to drop seeds. My other 4 human-type sims need not work, obviously.
So much for my blather. But yes, the simbots can be annoying. I have effectively harnessed the power of the simbots. They are my servants whether they like it or not.
