View Full Version : Default Replacement Objects Crashing Game?

I find this a little odd. I know how to make my object a default replacement.. leaving the "Renumber/Rename internally" box un-ticked and keeping all of the fields as they were.
But once I go into the game and click on the object, I can drag and drop it fine.. using it is fine.. but whenever I click on it and the name and description box comes up, my game freezes and eventually I have to force the game to close.
This happens every time :( Am I doing something wrong?

I never tried a Default Replacement other than a different texture yet, but did you changed the mesh too?
And if Yes, did you make sure all the joints stayed/come with your new mesh too?
I can imaging that the freezing occurs if the game has to play an animation/pop up a menu or something like that and a slot/joint whatever for it is missing?

On this certain object I did not change the mesh itself.. I just added slots to it.

I've had this issue myself with files I have created as well as with files created by others. I have a few files that make certain wall objects shiftable. Sometimes the game will crash if I allow the description box to appear and other times it won't. It seems a bit hit and miss with me.
Some of these files I have had from several patch versions ago and never gave me issues until I installed the last two patch levels.
All I have come to the conclusion of is that something must have been tweaked slightly with how the game reads the file contents. I just make sure not to let the description appear on wall objects. If I want to use a preset then I use the CASt tool after I place it instead.

When you changed the slots, did you use the default RSLT file? You may have to renumber the RSLT, change the the TGI reference to match that number(in Grid), and also change its reference in the VPXY. Not sure this is the problem, but its what I would try.

Probably not much help figuring out the issue but I've had this happen as well. I made a default replacement bed which works just fine unless I put a bed in-game that's been cloned (renumbered/renamed) from that bed. Then the game freezes and I have to minimize it and close with the task manager. If I take out either bed...the default replacement or the renumbered clone then everything is fine.
