I noticed while casting that its advisable to use very similar colours on the embroidery and the panel behind as the detail is very fine. Have you considered making the belt castable instead of the panel behind the embroidery and just combining the embroidery and panel into one channel?
monca533
8th Dec 2011, 10:03 PM
I see what you mean about the details, but if I make it, the embroided would be lost and not visible. That is why I chose contrasting colors for the embroided and the panel.
About the belt, I sincerally don't think it need to be castable, sorry.
About the pictures, you are right. I'll take others and post them in a little while.

Hi Lee!
I took the pictures the bigger as I could, considering the size of my screen. I hope it is good enough.
I need your help: In Merrye Makers CR there is a change about the hat/hair. Well, sorry, but I couldn't understand what they want. Can you help me, please?
Thanks!!!

Yes Monca - I will take a look at the CR.
I have a 1440 by 900 screen (and a relatively kick ass PC) and those are as big as I could get them. I think that if we can have the 3 (big as you can) pictures of the relevant life stages and then do some detail shots that show the dress from the front and back and sides. Those can be zoomed in more and will not need the face and feet of the sim, focusing more on the details.
The green dress shot I posted is a perfect size and angle, just terrible casting by me
http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Sims_3_CAS#Screenshots < Just if you want to look :)
What I am seeing in your pictures is pixellation - I took a look at the screenshot details and it looks like you are overcompressing. Get the pictures as BIG as you can, both in terms of size and saving for web as close to 250kb as possible.

Ok, Lee!
So, I'll take 6 pictures: three of the details (front, side and back) and three of the life stages (theese ones a bit smaller).

yup - the first three pics you posted were VERY nice - in terms of angle and shot and showing the life stages - they just were a bit small, that was all. Try and avoid odd angles if you can - take the shots straight on for the life stages and as in the example for the back, front and sides.
Also, I see in the files a tf dress (teen female?) but in the post details it does not mention teen as an age.

When I saw your post I signed in as Merrye Makers to supply the colour channels pics they were requesting for the hair portion of the Hat Hair in the CR but I saw that you had already done it, thank you! They usually want the channels to be done in red, blue and green but hopefully those pics will be OK (I hope!).

lol - the three age shots are fine - and the detail shots are nice too. No beheading needed. The ONLY thing - and maybe you have a better compressing software than I do or something - the files are very small in terms of file size. None are over 100kb. That CAN cause the pics to look a little crunchy. And I have SEEN this dress in game and it is not crunchy AT ALL.

I don't know why.
I'm just using the scissor tool of the Windows 7 to take the pictures and then I'm updanting those as they are.
Edit: What do you think if I put the pictures in the Photoshop and make the size higher?

Red, blue, green and white is what the upload mods have told me is the usual convention for hair - it just makes the four channels easy to see. I use yellow instead of white, because I myself think it shows up better - see example in my last hair upload (2nd picture): http://www.nene.modthesims.info/d/458794 . But the mods said you don't HAVE to use those particular colours, so I hope what you've already uploaded will be OK. If not and they send it back again, I'll re-shoot the recolour screenie myself, never fear!

The scissor tool? I don't know that tool. I play in fullscreen mode and take the screenshots using the c button. Then I open the screenshots in Photoshop and crop the image to size (usually using the canvas size tool). Finally I save the new cropped and sized images for web.

I would go with the play in fullscreen - use c button - edit screenshots approach. That might work better. I am assuming you have all settings as high as you can for upload shots?

Hmm, I don't know. It will depend on card and PC specifications I realise, but can you try doing a shot with the game in fullscreen using the c button and then crop the screenshot and save for web? Just do ONE - the detail shot of the white dress and post that as an extra so we can see the two side by side.
Sorry about this - I realise its a nightmare redoing pictures (I hate it) but this dress is so lovely and I really want the downloader to see it at its very best.

I see that we sent the noble's gown for consideration. Did we get some of the text regarding female clothing and The Merrye Makers "blurb" in there? If not, can we add it later? I would like to see the "blurb" in there to make it consistent with the other uploads. (The copy just makes them more fun, I think. I tried to tie in game references, sim traits, etc., into little stories to make it more interesting. However, my feelings aren't going to be hurt if we can't use it all.) SimmyRN

Simmy - I added a little blurb - not awesome but it is there - here is the text I added:
Greetings, good gentles/ladies. We are The Merrye Makers - a group of ten creators spanning all disciplines (clothing, lots, objects, etc.) offering for thy downloading pleasure a collection of medieval things most beauteous from Ye Olde Kingdom of Pudding -- otherwise known as "Simdom Pudding".
Around the year 1340 there was a change in women’s clothing, to tighter-fitting garments, lower necklines, and more curvaceous silhouettes; “tight lacing was used on women's clothes to create a form fitting shape which created a long-waisted appearance”.
I can of course edit that to something a bit more in your style if you post a text in reply. :)

Ye Olde Kingdom of Pudding - Female Medieval Clothing
Nobles' Dress
Greetings, good gentles/ladies. We are The Merrye Makers - a group of ten creators spanning all disciplines (clothing, lots, objects, etc.) offering for thy downloading pleasure a collection of medieval things most beauteous from Ye Olde Kingdom of Pudding -- otherwise known as "Simdom Pudding".
Around the year 1340 there was a change in women’s clothing, to tighter-fitting garments, lower necklines, and more curvaceous silhouettes. "Tight lacing was used on women's clothes to create a form fitting shape which created a long-waisted appearance.” King Crumplebottom's queen consort, Agnes, wore golden crowns and brightly colored silks. Queen Agnes and Princess Jocasta had attendants to help them don their silken tunics. Lady-in-Waiting Iliana Langerak attended Princess Jocasta. The Queen's Women of the Bedchamber were in regular attendance, but her Mistress of the Robes, Lucille Spenster, and Ladies of the Bedchamber, Zelda and Rhoda Capp, were only required for ceremonial occasions.

I liked the idea of combining all three pictures in one, but the images were a bit small - so I have made a thumbnail gif. Take a look - if you like it we can keep it or we can swap it back to the one Esme made (is it ok to call you Esme?)

Fantastic, thanks for doing that! In my time zone it was bedtime and I wasn't 100% happy with what I put together but didn't have time to think up something more clever. Your animated thumbnail is perfect, shows all three items in a good visible size.

Monca -
We received the following CR message for your lovely gown:
"Other reasons (these may be clarifications of above points, or additional reasons)
Hiya. I know you're probably sick of seeing CRs on this dress now! We do have four issues which hadn't been spotted before - partly because of the fantastic new pics, and partly because of the sheer quantity of things to consider in the bigger uploads. It's easy to miss details in a setting like that.
The first is very minor, and if you can't fix it, that's not a problem: but it's good to let you know so you can at least have a go. Looking at the pic of the back of the dress, the top of the arms look blocky and have a sort of sharp angle just under the armpit. It looks like this is a bone assignments thing; that those vertices are assigned wholly to the arm, whereas they should be assigned partly to the arm and partly to the shoulder, to get a nice smooth transition.
The second is regarding the stretching on the skirt. Long skirts like this will always have texture stretching at the bottom. However, in this case it seems very extreme, so it's worth trying to reduce it a little, even though you can't get rid of it completely. The simplest thing to do is probably to adjust the UV mapping, so that the map for the front and back of the skirt is wider and the map for the sides is narrower. This will mean that the texture will be slightly stretched at the sides, but it will also be less stretched at the front, so the overall effect will be more even.
Thirdly, the trim looks quite crunchy in places - you can see that especially at the back and on the arm. Perhaps the texture has been sharpened a bit too much?
Finally, the lacing down the side is nicely drawn, but there's nowhere for the laces to go - there should be small "holes" (or just rings, or slits) around the laces so they can actually be laced through the fabric (since laces have to be able to be pulled tight or loose, so they can't just be sewn in). Another option is to do rings or stitching on the outside of the dress, to create loops for the lacing to go through - if you fancy a challenge!"
