Are there any funny, weird, or embarrassing things that scared you as a kid?

When I was little I was terrified of the trolls in Ernest Scared Stupid. That is seriously the only movie that has ever given me nightmares! And yes, I know how weird that is.

Haha! It's amazing how frightening puppets could be to a young child. Mostly I was scared by the Yup Yup noises the aliens made. My brother (2 years older) discovered this very fast and figured out how to mimic the noises and that's how I got afraid of shadows in a dark room... which isn't as funny when your 5 and awake from a scary Yup Yup dream, just heard someone laughing running down the hall and suddenly need the toilet.... I reckon I spent about a week of terrifying nights like that before Dad found out and put an end to the Yup Yup nightmares.

A lot of kids were scared of that episode, back when I was a kid. I also was scared of hats, and video games.

oh boy, what didn't scare me??
very first thing that comes to mind: the candy mechines in the front of department stores, especially the ones that despensed the candy-coated black licorice. I was convinced that drug dealers owned them & that the candies (which were pill-shaped) were actually illegal drugs, meant to get everyone "hooked". I actually cried my eyes out whenever my brother would put his quarter in & get some. No one could convince me that they were safe to eat.
2nd- on a Halloween episode of Seasme Street, Ernie was singing the Rubber Duckie song in his bathtub...ok so far, sounds alright...however it was a ghost Ernie, in a "haunted style" house, with loads of cobwebs & broken walls everywhere. On one hand I loved watching it, but it did give me nightmares for a month or so, I ended up burying my rubber duckie in my Mom's garden.

I was barely 5yrs old for both of these...(ps pardon horrid spelling, just got in from working 16hrs & no sleep ;} )

According to my mother. Feathers.. I was maybe 18 months old. Feathers no longer scare me.. Have moved on to other more important fears. The IRS.

The other fear was/is heights. It takes all my will power to climb up on the roof to cut branches away from the sides of my house. I still can not clean my gutters at all. The kid I hired for it last year went to college.

The only thing I carried in my purse when I was little, was a cap pistol. I never shot it, because I was scared of the noise.

The sound of a balloon popping. Actually, that still scares the shit out of me. It's the anticipation I tell you!

I was pretty terrified of cotton balls when I was younger. I have yet to figure that one out. Also, keeping my feet outside of my comforter while sleeping.

I used to be scared of my bedroom window. I had this obsession with murderers coming in through it, which is pretty weird when I think about it now, especially for a child. I'd only ever sleep facing away from my window, which basically meant I'd never turn over onto my right hand side, however much I wanted to...it used to get pretty uncomfortable!

My parents used to be scared of my little brother's bedroom window because they thought he would open it and jump out of it. Hmm . . .

When I was little I heard something on the news about bombings in Lebanon (as in the Middle-Eastern country) but I thought they were talking about Lebanon, PA (same spelling, slightly different pronunciation) which is fairly close by. I was terrified that we were gonna be bombed! Another time when I was about 8 I thought I was gonna die because I got bug juice in my mouth (it said toxic). I thought I had one month to live and I secretly said my last goodbyes to everyone on the night I was supposed to die. For a while I was also afraid of Dragon Tails because they were dragons but then I found out they were nice.

I was scared of anyone in costume. The men dressed as Santa for pictures, the guy dressed as Chuck-E-Cheese... I actually kicked him and ran one time when I was about 6 and we were at the restaurant. We haven't been back to one since.

I freaking love that movie ^.^

But the dark used to scare me. I hated to be in the dark, I always felt like something was going to jump out at me.

And when I watched Halloween for the first time, I thought Micheal Myers was going to come out of my closet, and kill me o.o...Clowns as well. >_> I blame Stephen King for that one <_<

I watched this show when i was little. And this extreamly creepy (and fake) looking bear. I cant explain it but gi gave me nightmares.... Oh yeah now i Think i remember! Its goldilocks and the three bears the realistic version. Yeah it gave me nightmares that i was goldilocks (but thank god i was still a male) and i tried to hide in the bushes. I saw the three bears walk past me then the baby bear (more like teen bear) found me and picked up a big, sharp, daggarlike woodchip he found on the ground. Then he stabbed me to death with it. Even though i dont get those nightmares anymore the looks on that bear still creeps me out!

Leaves - I used to hate plants/trees with big leaves. Having to sit next to a cheese plant at Xmas around relatives would freak me out - also we had a large horse chestnut tree in the garden and in autumn I thought the leaves looked like big hands floating down. Totally over it now...

when I was around five or six my mom let me watch the old movie 'The Blob' (made in 1988) Y'know the one with the pink acidic formless mass that sucked up everything? yeah that one, at Six. I was terrified for years of anything that had to do with blobs O.O add to that I also had watched a movie about Lava, forgot the name but I always thought lava was going to come and melt me away -shudders- I was also afraid of the dark for I don't know How long until I forced myself to get over and told myself it was 'illogical' XD lets see... around my childhood I was afraid of roaches, (but then again who wouldn't be?) so much so I had literally screamed bloody murder and ran up my Bed Post and tried to climb up my bedroom wall after seeing one (at that time I was 4 and the top of my bed post was like, two inches wide, how'd I get that kind of balance? O.o), Uhm.... I also remember watching this horror movie called leprechaun, made in 1993, director was Mark Jones, I spent a lot of nights sleeping next to my older brother after that one o.o.

but besides the point I'm still scared of the movie 'The Blob' and will never, Ever Ever EVER watch it again....
Ever.

Well the movie Willow tramatized me for years. Goddamn always thought a giant rat would come out of the dark and eat me. My other fear I had was that giant spider in the basement. No not a itsy bitsy spider of big variety, no and big spidy that my mind created when I ate my parents stash as a kid and went into the basement and had my first "encounter".

All other phobias I had as a kid pretty much passed on to adulthood.

Oh, did I mention my father's snore? It still scares the crap out of me. When he snores, and it's dark, I feel like something really horrifying is going to jump at me. My mother... She's my hero for sleeping next to him every night.

When I was little, I was afraid of a fountain, which had swan statues on it. Not every fountain, but only that one. When I saw it, I was terrifyed and I hide behind my mum. Oh, and I was afraid of chewing-gum. I don't know, why  .

Yeah, several things, unfortunately. When I was a kid, apparently I was so frightened by seeing Luke Skywalker's uncle turned to bones that I started sucking my thumb again after having stopped. I had 3 bouts of braces to correct the overbite.

I also was afraid of Demonic Possion, and Ghosts. The former was due to catholic school, and too much Satanic Panic in the 1980's. Ghosts always bug me. While I do not believe they exist, I do still have a visceral reaction, LOL.

The movie that got to me as a kid was IT (like so many others). I'm not scared of clowns (although they always have instilled a sense of irrational anger in me for some reason, they annoy me to the point I want to sock them in the face), but Pennywise creeped the hell out of me, though I suppose that it can be considered justified as it's made clear from the first five minutes that he's not really a clown, but a child-eating monster.
Like MoirreyEinar, there was also a statue which freaked me out: The one of King Louis IX that sits outside the art museum on Art Hill, in Forest Park in St. Louis, MO.

More specifically, the horse, from a seven-year-old's perspective, the damn thing looked like it was ready to eat you!

CLOWNS! For some reason, I fear clowns when I was a kid. Heck, I wouldn't even come to a friend's birthday party because there was a picture of a clown on the invitation, and I was certain that there would be a real clown in the party.

vhanster: Uggh, clowns freak me out.

WhaleThan: My friend was afraid of a furbie I had, it was funny because she would see it sitting there and then she'd say "Doesn't that thing freak you out at all?" I would then make the furbie say something, and she looked at it like it was about to eat our faces.

I was afraid of the bear in the corner and the alligator under my bed. It didn't matter that they weren't there before the lights were off, somehow they appeared when it was dark and I was convinced they were going to eat me.

I was so afraid that I'd climb up to the top bunk and maneuver myself between my sister and the wall. Unfortunately, I've never been a still sleeper, so there were many nights that my sister ended up on the floor. It got to be so common that she didn't even bother getting up, but she refused to let me have the top bunk.

Another silly thing that scared me was a scene in the comedy movie 9 to 5. The part where they steal a body from the hospital... all they ever showed was the toe, but that toe scared the crap out of me :faceslap: . I think it was because I knew what the toe represented.

I'm pretty sure I've seen another such thread around the forum.
Back there, I said I was scared of grated floors and broken electronics noise. Both fears got ressurected after I played Silent Hill.

So, to elaborate, being in between 5-7 years old I was absolutely terrified of old TV (did I say old? it was ancient, black and white soviet "fuck off" technology monster) which would occassionaly start making terrible loud noise, and the only way to stop the noise was to come right to the TV and move its antennas until you catch up with the TV signal. Of course, them grandparents would always have the kid to go and move it. Me, I wanted to run into the far-most corner of the apartments and shut my ears tight. I forgot this fear over years since the TV was gone until, playing Silent Hill 2, walked into the room where a corpse is sitting in front of old, noising TV. I don't know how to explain, but that was a bullseye. I stopped the game and was being scared shitless until I managed to remember that TV from my childhood.

The floating in The Wizard of Oz, and THE DAMN WHEELERS IN THE SEQUEL. Oh, and spiders. EVEN FAKE ONES. Even today T_T

I was also really scared of the games Operation and Perfection.

And TV static or when TV's were scanning through the channels . . . well, then again, fear of old CRT computer monitors displaying wrong or doing that "flicker out" thing (degaussing? scariest shit ever when you don't expect the noise) is kind of deep rooted too.

Clowns also terrified me as a child. Actually i'm still not too fond of them. I remember this one time when I was about 3 or 4, my mom, my aunt, my cousin, and I were spending the day together and we decided to go to McDonalds for lunch. Well that day Ronald McDonald was there. I hated clowns so much I cried in the car for a 1/2 and hour until they all finally gave up trying to get me to go in there. I was scared to death I might see Ronald lol. We ended up just going through the drive through and eating at my aunt's house.
I also hated haunted houses, well I should say hated like it's past tense I won't go on them now still and I am an adult lol.
