Can't place floor where stairs used to be...

I'm 100% confounded about what's going on with this stairs/floor problem I just encountered. Basically, it's from a premade house in Veronaville (the one to the left of the Summerdream house) - it has two modular stairs next to each other leading to the second floor, I removed them early and was decorating the outside of the house, not thinking much about the stairs as I've removed stairs from premade houses a million times and never had an issue... but now when I try to fill in the hole that the stairs left on the second floor, I can't put floor there:

As you can see it says 6x4 tiles being filled, $96 cost - but no floor is actually going in the hole. :rolleyes:
I've tried everything I can think of: encasing the hole with walls and using shift to fill it, placing the stairs back in the hole and removing them one by one, placing the stairs back in the hole then placing bannisters on them and removing them one by one THEN the stairs themselves, filling it from below by turning view ceiling on, removing all the flooring from the second floor and refilling it, moveobjects on... I'm completely lost. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? o_O

Have you tried placing a column under that floor? I think it may not be placing floor tiles due to no support.

Hm, I didn't try that, actually... although if it worked it would still be slightly counter-productive since I'd have to have a column in the middle of my house. o.o I solved it by just leaving the gap there, placing spiral stairs on the left and extending the bannister all the way around the hole anyway - it meant I had to plan my floor plan around the stairs, but it worked ok-ish in the end.

Columns can be removed after the floor tiles are placed. =)
