View Full Version : Launcher doesn't show up after Ambitions update

I've gone through deleting cache files and I do not have Origins installed, and I can't find a Mac download for it. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the game and EPs once. So basically, I've followed orders.
After the first reinstall, everything was going really well, but then I reinstalled WA and Ambitions. At first Ambitions just wouldn't show up in the game, even AFTER it was installed, and assured me it was installed. For some reason I just couldn't get any Ambitions-related content to show up in the game. I then got prompted to update Ambitions and WA, which I did, figuring that was the problem. Now the launcher won't open at all. When I click on it in Applications, the Sims 3 icon comes up onto the dock, but then just stays there, inert, and the launcher won't load, even if I click on the icon. (Also, for some reason, all the EP icons in Applications in the Sims 3 folder look fuzzy and pixelated, except for WA and Ambitions.)
Anyone have any ideas, please?

PLEEAZE????? Anyone? I've uninstalled and installed again and it still won't load!! Also deleted cache files again.
EDIT: This time I thought it might help if I downloaded something from the Exchange to force the downloader to open up. Instead I got an error message that said "The application "The Sims 3" can't be opened. -1712"

There's no Origin for Mac.
Updated via Launcher? Ever tried a manual update? Game Help:TS3_Patching:Patch_Download/CurrentOSX
What version is the base game at this point? Game Help:Patch_Table
What OSX and version?
Post your system specs:
About This Mac (top left corner of your screen) > More Info, and then copy + paste what it says there in Hardware Overview and Graphics.
Repair Permissions, etc?
delete preferences
/Users/<Username>/Library/Preferences/The Sims 3 Preferences folder
delete caches:
<diskname>/Library/Caches/<anything with Sims 3 in it>
/Users/<Username>/Library/Caches/<anything with Sims 3 in it>
repair permissions
/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, "Repair Permissions"
Last resort: have you done a full uninstall? Yes, again, together with the above 3 steps? Manually Uninstalling in Mac OS (http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Uninstall#Manually_Uninstalling_in_Mac_OS)
I'd suggest after the reinstall of Sims 3 base game, to update with the manual update directly to 1.33. Test the game first at this point - new game, no CC.
Then you can reinstall all the addons you have.

All right, I've uninstalled again and reinstalled, and found the problem comes down to some .package file that's screwing everything up. I went through and deleted the sliders hacks (since that seems to be the problem), and also went through and deleted Sims 3 Preferences and all ipatch and transgaming items in the Preferences folder. It worked! The only problem I have now is that I have to remove those folders every time I play now. Is there any way to permanently remove them?
EDIT: Scratch that, the launcher loads but now when I press play I just get the black screen and it stays stuck there. ARRGH what I would give for this game to work for once.
I also tried manually installed the update and it just says that the update cannot be applied to the current version, please re-install.
EDIT 2: Now the launcher is running, but the black screen takes several minutes to start working and then I'm having to wait an eternity for the game to load. If it's not one thing it's another.....
