Well It was my first phone call to activate my debit card...
I wasn't prepare to activate my card and I contacted the bank, The voice phone machine gave me some steps and it leaded me to a help desk connection..
I was speaking to her and she was asking me so many questions and I wasn't prepared...
She was asking my name, password ( I didn't know I have a password and it's on my card.... I was a noob and I was like OMG! )
She asked me what's my name and I mentioned my name and I'm not in the system.. I was like "Dang it... Too embarrassing!"
And also the phone was recording every words what I mentioned... I was pretty scared and the bank thought I was a thief who is calling the bank!...
LoL it was my first call for my bank and I was pretty embarrassed... XD
Lucky I didn't hang up, that would be stupid. O.O

Yeah, I prefer speaking face-to-face 100 times over speaking on the telephone. I mean, to strangers, not with friends or family. It makes me nervous. xD

Unfortunately, my job is mostly over the phone customer service - so I've gotten over the embarrassing stage unless I have to call them back because I've forgotten to ask or tell something important about their order, etc.
But yeah it is even weirder yet for me to call places as a customer nowadays - but because I know what they go through I tend to be quite nice about it all. Don't worry too much if you think you sound weird or have said the wrong thing and if you do not want to be recorded just tell the person before you go any further. They're there to help you and are usually quite good about it - after all its what they are paid to do. Plus if it was your first time - well thats what usually happens with most people (similar tales from friends, plus I was just as weird the first time I had to do something like that). If you did end up hanging up, you could of always rung back and said that you were cut off (trust me I've done that a few times myself) - normally you won't get put back through to the same person (that would be a stoke of luck if you did!).

That's a shame RomerJon though I'd guess the person on the other end of the phone didn't really notice. If you ever do phone work, you will realise that someone getting flustered and forgetting or not knowing their details is an everyday occurrence and nothing compared to some of the rudeness and unpleasantness you do get over the phone in a job like that. I'd say don't worry about it and you'll probably get better with time. Funnily enough, working on the phone is something I am actually good at - though it's not something I do regularly as part of my job (though I have worked as a phone operator in the (very) distant past). I don't know why really but I do have a knack for it. If a difficult phone call has to be made, my co-workers inevitably volunteer me for it.

I'm not sure if this is the same feeling but I have a LOT of phone anxiety. If people call my phone and I don't know who they are, I will not answer even if I am expecting a call. I have a real issue talking to strangers on the phone. Its so funny because it's not really a stranger or a shyness issue because I've been a waitress for like 6 years and I have no issue interacting with those people. When I have to talk to strangers on the phone, I get all sweaty and I don't pay attention to what the person is saying.

The only thing I hate doing is cold calling. This is because I hate receiving calls from strangers out of the blue in real life. I do tech support for a living so phones are my life, and I'm not embarrassed to make calls unless what I'm saying is bad news or something ridiculous the company has me say. But that is rare.

I actually used to be a debt collector for a large credit card company, so any fear I might have had about being on the phone about that kind of thing was pretty much pounded out of me during training and nesting. It's totally okay to be flustered the first time you have to call support, and the operator on the other line has been trained to efficiently handle situations like that. By the way, it's not recorded because they think you're a thief. It's for quality control and for training purposes. Maybe one day your call will be played to some people that are in training to be operators, or will be used to show the operator how they could have handled the call better.
And the information they ask you is to confirm that you say who you are, because of the sensitive nature of the call, even if it doesn't seem like something that would require that.

I hate talking on the phone myself.. As I lose roughly half of the conversation. Body language tells me a lot more of what the person that I am talking to is really saying.
Over the phone I really am bad on a picking up on cues that might mean a person is getting upset.

I only hate talking on the phone if I am talking to a stranger, with friends and my family I would rather talk on the phone than shoot them a text. I hate calling stores, hate it cause I get so awkward with people. I couldn't keep a converstion going for my life. What has been pissing me off lately though is that since I have gotten my new number I have been getting texts and calls from random people looking for this Kyle guy. No matter how many times I say that I am clearly not Kyle they still call and text me. Not just random people, weird random people.

I feel embarrassed when I order a pizza, especially when I end up calling the wrong one. I called a Pizza Hut that was on the other side of town, and they had to give me the number to a closer one (embarrassing!) and THENNNNN I couldn't find a pen so I couldn't write it down, so I ended up having to write the number with my finger on the back on the old, dusty car out back.

When I have to make short phone calls for certain purposes (like ordering something, for technical support, etc.) I don't feel embarrased. However, I reaaly don't know how to talk on the phone with friends and relatives, now that's embarrassing. My little sister, who is 17, all giggly and girly, can talk on the phone with her friends for hours, but whenever she comes to visit me (and she does, when she needs help with her lessons, or had just quarreled with mom), i put it strictly: WHILE YOU"RE AT MY PLACE, NO PHONE TALK LONGER THAN 10 MIN. I'm not a very nice person, can you tell? :) Anyway, I prefer face-to-face casual talks with my friends, I can just arrange some outing with them over the phone, or talk about something briefly, and I'm not really close with my relatives, so it is an unpleasant chore for me to greet them on holidays on the phone. Grrrr, hate it, and can never find words. I think phone is for calling someone when it is necessary, not for chatting for hours and discussing the newest episodes of soap operas.
