View Full Version : Lack of space for barns?

Does anyone else feel that there isn't enought space on a lot to build a barn for the horses?
The premade houses all have small barns and pastures, which is good for one horse. I've been wanting to make a small family which will raise horses, but no matter what I try, I can't fit a barn that would be large enough for 3-4 horses. Even if I can build a large barn, there's never enough space for the horses to run around. I'd rather not take every horse somewhere to fill that exersise motive everyday. Does anyone else feel the same way?

The horses will run around the 'hood on their own, or use equipment on the lot, when they feel the need. Ya don't need to take them out for exercise every day. You can also direct them to run around the world or use equipment, if you prefer.
And yes, most lots are too small for a barn to fit more than 2 horses along with a house and whatever else you may want to add.

If you only need three stalls you could try building a stable block, which is just a one storey, three sided building long enough to fit in the stalls, pop on a roof (I add a space or two at the front so there's a walkway in front of the stalls.) You could also lenghten it to fit in a tack / feed room.
If you need more stalls you could try building the same stable block opposite with an open walkway in the middle, I'm not sure if that would be a smaller space than a barn, though, but you could try it.
With the lot I'm working on now, I'm going to use the lot next door as the horse's pasture. Its already fenced with hood decoration so I'll just remove the house and direct the horses to go there to graze, run about etc. That will leave more room to squeeze in house, yard, stables and exersize yard - hopefully!

This is exactly why I never thought we'd ever see horses in the Sims ;) Let's face it, they DO take a lot of room, IRL too.
Placing an exercise yard on an adjacent empty lot is a good choice... you can even use one of the premade horse ranch lots.
I have converted a lot of garages to stables when a sim wanted a horse and lived on a lot that wasn't built with that in mind ;) Even in Bridgeport in an apartment building, once!

I have troubles with my horses, so I find ways to prevent needing stuff, a.k.a. cheats Edit: My horses are slow and block my sims' path sometimes. I always keep at least one unicorn to revive dead plants. :p
