View Full Version : Clean Installer finding duplicate lots(see last post for dodgy cc file which crashes game, linked to male elder full outfits)

Hello everyone :)

First of all, sorry if this should be in regular discussion. I wasn't sure, so I put it here. Sorry if it's the wrong place.

So today I was experimenting with the Clean Installer, just seeing what it does. I scanned my downloads folder and read the manual on the internet. I removed any pink or blue items (blue all seem to be incomplete BS projects) and put them on the desktop to possibly delete later. I have 2 red careers, going to remove them but have to make all my sims quit first.

I scanned the other folders (except browse), and when I was doing the lots one (can't remember what it's called), the Clean Installer found some pink (duplicate) lots. I sort of knew this already, as in game, when I am choosing a new house to put in my neighbourhood, there are many that look the same, I had wondered why.

I am guessing it might be to do with the fact that I had a corrupted neighbourhood a few months ago, and had to delete my neighbourhoods and start again (I used the clean pre-made ones). I think somehow it added the lots together, or something?

Anyway, I was wondering, is it safe to get rid of the duplicate lots? Or should I leave them as they are? I'd rather get rid, if I can, but don't want to corrupt anything. (I'm quite scared of corruption now!)

Please tell me what you think! :help:

Also I have been having a weird thing where my game crashes every so often. It seems to be whenever I do something linked to male elder full outfits! Specifically: in CAS when selecting a pre-made male elder, in Cold Issue Clothing when buying male elder full outfits, and when aging a male up to elder. Do you think the two things are linked somehow?

Thankyou everyone, and sorry for a long post :turtle:

I'm going to assume that the unknown folder was named LotCatalog; if this is an incorrect assumption, then we'll need to know the name of the folder.

Yes, it is completely safe to delete lots from the LotCatalog folder. You can delete the lots using the Clean Installer, or inside of the game from Lots & Houses (a.k.a Lot Bin).

The lot bin will not crash CAS. You should probably do the Game_Help:Game_Problem FAQ to see whether you can find the problem.

Thanks Mootilda. Yes it was LotCatalog. Thankyou.

I am going to have a look at that now, the more I try to investigate, the more I think it is something wrong with male elder full outfits. I have deleted my custom elders, so I just have the maxis ones. Even then, as soon as I try to make a sim in CAS, I click on the full outfit icon and it crashes immediately. I do have some default replacements so might have to take them out (sigh) but then elders look kind of weird anyway. I just hope it's not the shorter socks one, as I really hate those Maxis long socks!

Sorry one more thing. Some of the lots were occupied (The Kat and Kim family) so these showed up as pink in Lot Catalog (using Clean Installer) aswell. Are they safe to delete using Clean Installer, or does this count as deleting sims from the sim bin? :wtf:

I have moved them to the desktop for now.

Thanks

Last year I had game crashing on browsing the elder male wear catalogue, on trying to go through elder male in body shop or sometimes when an adult male aged to elder. I had to do the 50/50 method and go through my downloads. Turned out two- for some unknown reason-items of clothing had become corrupt. After I removed them everything with elder males worked fine again. It's just one of those things that can happen. Of course it pays to be organized but these were some of my older files that weren’t even in my large clothes folder, but floating around in my overlarge miscellaneous folder. After that I divided my clothes into gender and age sections.

Don't delete lots with sims! I don't think you should have moved them either.

It is completely safe to delete occupied lots from the lot bin. However, the Clean Installer doesn't understand the relationship between the lot and the family, so you would be better off to delete those inside of the game.

If you decide to delete them outside of the game, I can explain how to determine which sim packages belong to which lot.

joandsarah77-Thanks, I have gone through the Game Problem FAQ and it is something in my cc. I tried removing everything for elder males, but it is something else. I'm not really keen on the 50 50 method, it sounds like it would take hours, I might just put up with it as I'm not a big fan of elders anyway. PS which items were corrupt in your downloads? I know it's a long shot but maybe we have the same ones?

Mootilda-Thankyou. I will put the files back and delete them from in game. I haven't played or loaded the game since I moved them so hopefully no damage done.

It takes a lot less time that you expect.

Hiya :) You were right! It took me an hour, which is not bad at all! I found the dodgy piece of cc! I don't know what is was but here are the details I have:

Name (as it appears in Downloads folder): uhkjhihjkj(11)
Type (eg.clothing, glasses etc.): unknown
Date downloaded (by me, english date): 10/5/12 aka 10th of May 2012

Hopefully that might help someone else!

Thankyou for the help!
