I've started using the Homecrafter plus and would like to know if there's a way to take something already in the game and modify/recolor it. Maxis and custom content. I don't plan on uploading it anywhere so using what someone else made isn't an issue - I just want it for my own game.

Take a look at these tutorials: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorials:Walls

I did already. It doesn't say anything about how to make them from something you have in the game but don't have a picture of.

It's been a while since I've done this, so I'm working from memory.
Open HomeCrafter
Click the category where the wall or floor that you want to copy appears in the game
You will see a lot of Maxis content there. Click the one you want.
Now click the button at the bottom that says something like "Clone" or "copy"
The new clone, which looks like the one you just cloned, will be copied into your working folder. Open it in your graphics program and make your edits.
The same process applies to CC, although that will also allow you to edit it without copying it. Be very careful if you still want the original version in your game.

Thanks, that works.
