UGLY NPC MAKEOVER
By: Grapholina (www.grapholina.com)
July 5, 2005
For this tutorial you will need:
** SimPe 40 (latest version at this writing)
** The Sims 2 (with or without University EP) installed
** You can use any neighborhood you wish (if you think you can follow without problems, but this tutorial uses Veronaville. Back up the neighborhood right now.
Tutorial Objective:
Taking an NPC whose looks you don’t particularly care for, and giving her a makeover so she will look gorgeous – sort of. We will be working with a female maid, but this process can be applied to any NPC or Townie in your game.
A. Creating Your Model:
We need to create a model so that we can apply its looks to the ugly NPC.
Step 1A: I prefer Body Shop because you aren't as limited when creating Sims, but you can use whatever you want. Open Body Shop, and create a female adult Sim. Make her as pretty or as ugly as you wish, applying makeup, etc. Once you’re done with your Sim, save her and exit Body Shop.
Step 2A: Start The Sims 2 (doesn’t matter if you have or have not University). Once your game loads, select Veronaville and enter the neighborhood.
Step 3A: We now need to go into “Debug Mode”, so, from the neighborhood view, bring up the cheat code window by pressing Control + Shift + C. When the cheat box opens, type in the following bool Prop code (nothing is case sensitive in the game, by the way):
boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true
Press “Enter”.
B. Creating The Archetype For Your Maid:
Step 1B: You’re in Veronaville, and you’ve entered the code for debug mode. Now you need to enter CAF (Create a Family) mode. When CAF has loaded, before you do anything, press:
Shift + N
Pressing Shift + N will put all of the work clothes, NPC clothes, hairstyles, etc. into CAF, and we need this to dress our Archetype Sim correctly.
Step 2B: Using the model you created in Body Shop, create a family of one. The Sim’s makeup, hair color, etc. should already be in place because you created your Sim in Body Shop. So, give this Sim a name, and then we’ll begin dressing her.
Step 3B: Select button #3 and under the hair color of your choice, scroll until you see the hairstyle with the maid’s cap and select that.
Next, select button #5 (clothing), and under “Everyday Clothes”, select the whole outfits section. Once again, scroll until you find the maid’s uniform, and select that, so that your Archetype Sim will have the uniform for her everyday clothes.
Now, select button #6, choose a personality and aspiration type for your Archetype Sim, and that’s it. Finish her off, save, and exit back to the neighborhood. Leave your Archetype in the Family Bin.
C. Selecting The Maid for the Makeover
** This next step is strictly for tutorial purposes since we need to test our results. **
Step 1C: From the neighborhood view, find the Capp household, and enter the lot.
The Capps don’t have a maid, so get one of the household Sims to pick up the phone and call for a maid. We want a female maid, so if the maid that answers the call is a male, have the household Sim hang up and then have him/her call the service again. You should get a female maid the second time around.
Before your household Sim finishes his service call, you should get a final message from the maid saying that she’ll be right over or be over first thing in the morning. Before that message disappears, place your cursor over the maid’s picture, and that should give you her name. I got Gina Seavey and that is whom I am using for this tutorial.
Step 2C: Save your game and exit. Make sure you close down the game and not leave it running in the background.
D. The Surgery
Step 1D: Open SimPe. At the time of this writing, the latest version is 40; so make sure you have that version (or higher) since I am not sure how a previous version will act in this case.
Click on “Plugin View” now since that is the only view we’ll be using.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85263
Step 2D: From the top menu, select “Plugins”, and then select “Neighborhood Browser”.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85264
When the window loads, select “Veronaville”, and click on “Open”. Doing so will of course, load Veronaville in SimPe.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85265
Step 3D: Once more, go back up to the top menu and select “Plugins”, and then select “Sim Surgery”.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85266
Once Sim Surgery has fully loaded, you should see a row of character thumbnails for Veronaville. First, we’ll scroll through the thumbnails to find our ugly maid. Mine is Gina Seavey, so I’ll look for her. Once you find your maid, select her thumbnail, and then click on “Use” in the “Patient Sim” area of the screen. Don’t check any of the boxes in that area.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85267
Next, scroll through the thumbnails again until you find the Archetype Sim you created and dressed in CAF. Select her, and then click on “Use” in the “Archetype” area.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85268
Click on the “Surgery” button, and presto Change-O, SimPe does its stuff and you’ll be presented with a brand new looking maid; and hopefully, she’ll be as gorgeous as you always thought she should be.
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85269
Okay, before you Commit and Save the file, let’s take this a step further with “Optional” Section E of this tutorial. If you would rather not, skip to the next section.
E. Ensuring a Productive Maid (Optional)
I really enjoy a maid who actually does the job she was hired to do, so this next step is strictly optional. If you rather like the halfway job Sim maids do, then skip this section completely and go to Section F.
Step 1E: In order to make the maid more productive, you need to alter her character traits a bit. Choose the “Character” tab for your maid, and make her extremely neat and active as follows:
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85270
Click the “Commit” button in the lower right hand side of the screen.
Step 2E: Finally, we’ll make our maid easy to befriend. The way I see it, since she’s going to be around my Sims on a daily basis, she may as well be a bit more useful by becoming a family friend.
Click on the “Interests” tab for your maid, and give her some big interest points all the way around:
http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=85271
Now you can click the “Commit” button, because we’re done.
F. Wrapping Things Up
Click File > Save. Click File > Close File Handler. Close SimPe, and then start your game. Enter Veronaville, and finally enter the Capp lot. All you need do now is wait around for your maid to show up to see your final results.
Here’s my new and improved Gina Seavey, reporting for duty at the Capp residence.

im going to try this right now. however, Im going to skip the create the model step and see what happens. I dont understand why I would have to go into bodyshop and then casie. why cant I do it all in casie?
Grapholina
6th Jul 2005, 5:56 PM
You can. I said I prefer Body Shop because you aren't as limited with facial features, etc.
Sorry about the thumbnails, folks. Daysies will fix them for me soon as she can.

Just a question: do we have to use Maxis clothes for the maid, for instance, or can we make them wear custom made ones?

Does the new NPC model have to be of the same sex and age group of the one to replace?
What happens with the relations the original NPC had? Does the new NPC keep them?

Hi. Yes, of the same sex, because you're not really replacing thet NPC. All you are doing is giving him or her a new look. The NPC will still retain all their friends/relationships, skills, etc. The only thing that changes is the way the NPC looks. Nothing else.

Wow, this looks like just what I was looking for to apply Bink13y's nifty RoboMaid 3000 (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=48694) textures to a human maid NPC. I guess if this works, the same could be done with Bink13y's other models (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=42554) for gardeners and such. :)
Which reminds me, are there any adverse affects from renaming an NPC in SimPE? After all, a RoboMaid with a name like "Gina Seavey" would be kind of strange.
Grapholina
18th Jul 2005, 8:58 PM
Yes, this will change the genetics.
About renaming an NPC... I haven't tested extensively, of course, but to date, I've had no adverse effects.

I know it isn't the necessary function of the post here.. but I want to give a huge thanks to the OP for this.. not to mention the creator of SimPe!
I pre-ordered TS2 because of the Maxis aliens.. and once I heard about Strangetown I knew I would love the game....
Ever since I first started playing the game and messing around with SimPe, I have wanted to create an 'all alien' town, but could not make heads or tails of SimPe, other than to adjust the stats of the Sims I created to play.
With this tut, I am now in the process of creating an alternate Strangetown, where all NPCs will be Maxis aliens...
A bit odd.. I will admit.. but.. I can't wait til its finished!
Thanks again to the tut creator and the maker of SimPe... I bow at your feet in awe... :D
*edit for typos.. :smash:

I hope someone can help me with this.
I made over a few NPCs with the help of this tutorial, and it worked out nicely. I got a beautiful maid, a monkey driver and some robot staff.
However, in game they change back to Maxis skins and clothes. The maid comes charmingly freckled, but when she leaves, her freckled skin changes into Maxis skin. The monkey driver is supposed to wear overalls and have furry skin, but instead has normal skin and wears driver's uniform. The robot gardener does not wear his robot gear and is bald. When the robot maid left the house, she turned into normal maid, only with shiny electronic blue eyes. :/ What should I do?

I've been doing this NPC replacement thing as well... have about 50% of the NPCs replaced, then read the previous post. I went in and did some tests.
I had replaced the pizza people already and made the call for delivery. First instance, I got a pizza girl, Maxis alien that I had replaced. I called again.. and got a regular sim.
In the replacement process, I did replace all three instances of the pizza person, so I should have gotten another replacement sim.
Does this mean that any changes we make are not permanant??
Help? Please...?

I think that there are BHAV codes in each NPC that cause them to revert to their original uniforms. Mharpharm has some details (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?p=395375#post395375) on how to use SimPE to bypass the op code that initializes what the NPC wears. You have to do this for each individual NPC of whom you want to change clothes, however.
As for keeping a custom skin, there's probably similar code in the Init BHAV functions that does for skin what the above function does for clothes. I'm just starting to delve into NPC hacking, so my knowledge of these things is limited (and if anyone knows of good reference information for NPC hacking, I would be extremely grateful! :)).

Some NPC's require this, like the drivers. They are NPC's that you cannot interact with. As far as the maids and gardners, etc.... they should not change back at all. Whatever changes you make to them will be permanent.
Just remember the interaction thingy.

So far all of the NPCs I have changed have reverted back... maids, community lot NPCs (vendors, etc), Pizza people..
I followed the tut exactly.. what else should I be changing? What interaction thingy?

The same has happened in my game; all the NPCs revert back. Not completely, though, but their hair, skin and costumes.
Grapholina
24th Jul 2005, 5:19 AM
You're sure that you followed the tut exactly? Do you have the latest version of SimPe?
Interaction: NPC's that you can interact with. Talk to, invite to hang out, etc. Car drivers and the like cannot be interacted with.
Your changes should not revert to originals.
I'm not sure what you're trying to do. This is to make them prettier. I know some folk have tried to make them wear regular clothes to work, etc., but quite frankly I have not yet tested those. This is only for their looks.
If you can give me exact examples of what you did, maybe I can duplicate it in my game. But I've tested across two computers, 4 neighborhoods, with and without University, and nothing has gone wrong. The folks who tested for me also kept their changes.

I tried to:
- have a maid with freckled skin
- have a robot maid and gardener, with their own skin, hair and clothes
- have a chimp driver with his own skin and overalls.
Grapholina
24th Jul 2005, 4:34 PM
OK, you're talking custom content here. I'll have to experiment with that a bit, but I've only worked with game content. Still, the skin part should not revert. Weird.
The chimp driver, that you cannot do. It won't work.

Grapholina,
I have tried to replace the NPCs with the unlocked Maxis Alien that mtbeer had at Maxis way back when.. I have the file if you don't already have it, as it is no longer at the Maxis site.
Using the uploaded Sim, (in Bodyshop, then under the CAS tool in-game) I was able to create male and females with the skin tone and eye shapes (per Maxis).
These where the bases that I used to create the alternate NPCs.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can offer/give you to help you try to duplicate this.

Am I correct in understanding that a key point in the tutorial is starting an interaction with the "victim" npc, then saving game while that interaction is still happening?

27th Jul 2005, 4:20 AM
The same has happened in my game; all the NPCs revert back. Not completely, though, but their hair, skin and costumes.
I've been having the exact same problem...when my maid arrives she has the new custom skin and looks that I gave her through surgery, but almost right after she finishes her work and says she going home the game freezes up for about 30 seconds and then she reverts back to her original skin tone. The hair, makeup, eyes, etc all stay the same, just the skin. I'm trying to find out more about this myself and I've started a thread at SimsPE website...if I get any info I'll post it here.

Okay, after fooling around with the maids in my neighborhood I finally got it where the new custom skins that I applied on them stay. The problem is, I'm not sure exactly what I did... :D IMPORTANT: Back up your neighborhood before doing surgery, I lost Lucy the Maid and have no idea where she went...sims tend to disappear. The first time I did surgery and had the skin problem it was with an older version of Simpe, so I suggest updating it. Secondly, in Simpe I went into Extra-Preferences-File Table and added my downloads folder with the custom skins to the list. Then, I went to a backed up version of my neighborhood, went under characters, and copied my maid files into the neighborhood file that I was currently using. (You may not need to do this step, but I had to replace my maids multiple times after experimenting with them...) Finally, I just went along with the surgery as usual and the maids finally didn't revert to their original maxis skins. The only new, but minor, problem is that after they finish their shift and say they're done their mouths tighten up wierdly (as seen in the pictures below), but the next day their mouths are fine until they talk again. Let me know if any of these steps have helped anyone, and I will continue testing to see if I can get rid of the wierd lip problem.
PattyMcPat2666
28th Jul 2005, 8:58 PM
I found a link that might solve the lip problem: http://ambertation.de/simpeforum/viewtopic.php?t=1238&highlight=distorted+faces+surgery
I haven't tried it yet...also for the pictures above, you can see how at the beginning of the shift the maid has a normal mouth, but at the end (right) it gets stuck in that position until she leaves...but the skin doesn't revert!
PattyMcPat2666
28th Jul 2005, 9:38 PM
I seem to be posting to myself...lol. Anyways, I did what the above link said to do, took some time, but the maid's lip no long stays fixed in one position. So if anyone has any questions feel free to ask, especially about the tutorial on how to fix the lips, as it left out a lot of information. Here are the results of my new maid! (You can see she can show expressions after her shift is over...)

While playing around I also found a simplier solution to the lip problem. If you're using surgery on your own created sims or townies just go into the mirror, or select makeover from the vanity on your townies, and then just press the check mark. You don't need to change their apperance, just check it like you would if you did. It should solve the lip problem for sims that you can use mirrors on.

I could never get the handle on all simpe can do. not enough time i guess.
I just use Eric and Kathy's inSIMenator, I make the npc selectable long enough to raise there asperation to platnum, change thier looks on the plastic surgury machine,(using the insimenator to unlock rewards) and appearence in a mirror and i am done. Cute maids, nanny's, you name it. But the toutorial is so nice of you.

Thanks for the tutorial, I wish I could tell you all that it worked but I can't. I tried to change the outfit of the maid this way so I exported the maid with the "export" option in the surgery window. Then I gave her a name, different clothes (the Maid4U outfit somewhere on this forum) and everything else needed in CAS. The last thing to do was to do surgery to finish it all (so I thought). But nothing happened, the next morning I got the usual maid, nothing changed! I tried some other maids and it appears that just the haircolor and minipicture have changed. What did I do wrong? Can anyone help me?

I noticed (and succesfull tried it) that following this great tutorial, I can also easily change the skintones of my own playable sims, without loosing any of their characteristics.
Very useful I think,

If someone can help me,
every sim "packed" using bodyshop esporter or downloaded, has of course many files included if all was done correctly.
The "main" sim file is always named by a sequence of numbers and/or chars.
For my own purpose, I would really interested on change this filename with my own easily recognizable name ( for example: SIM_Rebecca.package ) because I have listed and renamed all files into my download folders in a manner I can easily find them (so I said: DOOR_"Nameofdoor"_"Author"_"Version".package and so on).
Weel, my question is: Can I change the sim file's name without loosing something and/or have unespected collateral effects?
Thanks in advance,
Ice
jaxad0127
27th Oct 2005, 9:26 PM
IcemanTO, the package's name is meaningless in respect to its contents. Everything is refferenced by their unique identifiers, not their names (except in the case of some things INSIDE of the package, but the package's name doesn't matter).

Okay, thanks to a back injury I've been stuck at home rather than working so I've had some time to play around with SimPE the past couple of weeks. In the regular non-college neighborhood everything works great and goes off without a hitch. However when I try to change the students I get a warning that the student files are write protected, went in and tried to remove the write-protection but I'm just not that great with PC's any thoughts on the matter? Thanks in advance...

I actually like the Maxis made sims, everyone keeps saying that they'll no longer have ugly sims but I think that it adds something to my game to have different types of sims. Afterall the world isnt only made up of 'beautiful' people.
Oh well, I'm still going to try this tutorial cuz I want to make a medieval village and it would be very beneficial if I could change their clothing and such. Is it possible to keep the same NPC's but just change their clothing? Or will I have to go thru the whole makeover process?
jaxad0127

This thread is more about full-body, genetic changes. To just change their clothing, try this: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=108057. You'll still need to do something about reversion.

Thanos
10th Dec 2005, 4:46 PM
Since I installed Nightlife, each time I use the sim surgery the game runs fine, until at some point (perhaps not even in the 1º run after the edit) the game casually crashes and the neighbourhood is lost. It has happened a short time after each time I tried, and it does not happen when I keep away from it.
Well, let's try other ways. I know that if I kill a townie, a new one just gets created, so it's pointless. But, on the other hand, I know some ways around to take a user created sim and turn him into a townie. What would happen if a kill a regular townie after doing so? Will it create a new one anyway, or would the number of townies (wich, unlike the first case, would not fall under the number of townies created in the first place, and that the game seems to try to keep) prevent the system from doing so?
jaxad0127
10th Dec 2005, 8:13 PM
WhizzKid1234, the polination tech is a bit more complicated. He's just a set of genes.
Thanos, yes, that should work fine. The game won't create new townies unless the pool is to small.

I have a related question -- if I were to use this method to change the NPC's on a lot, and then packaged that lot, would the same NPC's be in the game of those who downloaded the lot?
jaxad0127
12th Jan 2006, 2:46 AM
Um...
Thats a bit complicated. If they reside on the lot, then yes, they will be avaliable as seperate sims, not replacing any version in the new neighborhood. If they in the memories of one or more residents, then they will be included as unlinked sims with no character data, basically useless. Other than that, no, they will not go with the lot.

I tried it but as I object to the maid wearing that daft uniform I did what I did with the maid in Sims 1 and dressed her in ordinary clothes. No cheat codes just body shop and dressed her up and then into Sims 2 to import them (I made 3 maids) into a family.
Used Simpe to change the maids clothes and features to use the new maids to overwrite the old maids. Then into the game.
She turned up as usual in her van in the the maids uniform.
Later on got her to move into the house and the clothes I put on her suddenly appeared.
Anyone got any ideas how to dump that uniform?

First off, I guess it's probably good to point out that this tutorial has worked just fine for me in the past and I've even shown others how to change ugly in-game characters with the help of this tut..
A little background on what I am doing: I am working on a mass replacement of all NPCs in Veronaville so I can have all my own, custom, NPCs. Aditionally (and I don't know if this could be part of the problem, because as far as I can tell, it's the only thing I've done different) I have deleted all the Maxis-created playing characters from the neighborhood and removed them from the family bin so they wouldn't show up in the neighborhood at all once I started playing the neighborhood.
I created my custom new NPCs and placed them into families, left them in the family bins as instructed in the tut, then closed the game and opened the neighborhood in SimPE and went to Sim Surgery. Not a single one of the characters I created showed up in the list of characters. I even tried re-loading SimPe several times to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions of what I can do to fix the problem or what I might be doing wrong, please let me know! I worked hours to get all those custom NPCs looking how I wanted them and putting them into families and I would really like to use them now. Any help appreciated!

Navigate to the characters folder of the neighborhood, then select ALL the files. Open their collective properties and click and click again the box for read-only. It should be completely empty. Then click ok.
I took the steps you described (above) to another user and tried to get the neighborhood to not be "read only." It seems to have worked on most of the files, but the folders are still marked as read only, including the neighborhood folder itself. I also downloaded the latest version of SimPE, since I realized I didn't have the latest version.. I looked for my created NPCs twice more, reloading SimPE in between, but still not one of them is showing up in Sim Surgury or anywhere else in SimPE. The pictures of these NPC "families" I created are showing up in the story folder, if that means anything.. Any more ideas what I might be doing wrong? Would moving them into lots or anything like that help?

jaxad0127

The special NPCs are:
Grim Reaper
Therapist
Hula Zombies (the ones with the Reaper)
Mrs CrumpleBottom
Polination Technicion (although his genetics can be changed)
Social Bunnies
Although the sociual bunnies are special npcs, each neighborhood has their own, and so they can be changed using this method. Changing any of the first four I listed could corrupt objects.package.

I made a custom neighborhood, changed almost all of the townies and npcs, and have had a couple of issues. Now that neighborhood is toast! My main Sim is completely ruined. I went into Simpe just to make him have a couple of more friends and I had two errors stating there is two of the same sims. A bunch came up unknown with a picture of Mister poatato head and my original sim had no info. No age, no aspiration, no relations. I was just going to delete the family and start over but it is still messed up. I did back it up but I don't want to go through changing a bunch of townies again!

WOW and all I wanted to do was make non playable sims characters better looking. It seems so many things can go wrong, so I have one question.
Can these changes be made on an identical game setup on a secondary computer and the new nps's be transferred back to the main computer?
I ask because I have used a program called sims2 NPC replacer which only allows a change of clothes but does produce a file in saved sims folder which I assume can be transfered to another game.
I don't want to lose my original game nor do I want to have to re-instal it, even with backups.
I hope you periodically check this post, it has been going for a long time and I have spent the past hour reading it. Your tutorial is well written and I know about the patch to stop reverting. Thank you for you time and efforts and I hope you can find a little bit more time to answer me.

What I'm wondering is.....is there a way to change the children Townies? I can't create a family of just a child of one, because they have to have an adult.
Or does it matter if there is more than one person in the family?
Can you just create a family with kids and move them to the Families bin and then change them in SimPE?

And theoretically I could do this with all NPCs and Townies, thus eliminating the need to pick a specific NPC/Townie every time? And I don't need Body Shop? Excellent, I was looking for a way to create a neighborhood with a homogeneous population, and my Body Shop doesn't work for beans. *thumbs up!*

Does it have to be a lone sim? like can you make a family of eight adults and then replace eight NPCS at a time, or do you have to make eight separate families to replace eight separate NPCs?

Thank you, my Neighbourhood has a medieval theme so now the NPC’s fit in too.
One question though, is there a way I can change the uniform of the police, fire service etc?
Normal outfits are replaced with the uniforms when on duty, I’ve been fiddling around but I can’t seem to find a way.
Please can you help?

(I posted this in one other place too, so sorry if multiple moderators are seeing it)
I'm having trouble. I'm going for a victorian neighborhood, so I'm replacing all townies and NPCs. I used deleteallcharacters in combination with a notownieregen hack so I could create my townies one at a time using a hacked object. However, when I went to look at SimPE, I realized that NPCs were listed as townies (except for the object townies -- Grim Reaper and such).
....and none of those NPCs (except, strangely, the paperboy and the mailman) had regenerated.
Help? Is there a way to make the NPCs show up? An object I can use? Or is there some sort of code in SimPE that designates a sim as working as a maid(etc)?

This is a useful trick for creating a custum hood - your playable sims can hire other playable sims. Used in conjunction with Sara M. Kirks careers or not - this is a great tut :)
BTW, you don't need to have them wear the dress in CAS because whenever they come over they will be dressed in that outfit anyway. I think this adds more realism - gardeners don't wear dungarees all the time and paperboys don't carry around the news all day long - =)

I think that I have figured out the problem with having certain NPCs wear custom clothes with this method; although it is blatantly obvious, I shall mention it anyways.
When attempting to make a sim who has a job, such as a mailman or maid, wear different clothes and have different hair, then the sim shall end up wearing their work clothes to "work", as well as most of the rest of the time, anyways; I would likely have to change the default maid outfit to change a maid's clothes when she works.
Ookay! When I posted this earlier I mentioned that I was having a glitch. I've discovered it is not a problem with Seasons and a non-Season-compliant SimPE.
I just the appearance of one of my townies entirely to look different and it worked perfectly. I think it has to do with how the sim I was trying to change the townie's appearance to earlier was already in a game.
Sorry for the crummy grammar right now, but my brain isn't working too well.

I think the game doesn't have a code for a teen nanny, so she just kind of rots in the car as you described. You might have to age her back to an elder to get her working again.

There's an NPC clothes replacement program on a sim site, if you're interested.

Yeah, you could do them all at once. The family thing doesn't change the way this process works, just pick the NPC you want to change and replace it with the sim in that family's genetics, like you normally would.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I did look through the topic and have a look around the site, but I can't seem to find an answer to this and was hoping maybe someone can help me?
How can I change a Sim's facial features in-game (not an NPC)? All I wanna do is edit my Sim's eyebrows a bit, but using the reward item messes-up her face every single time. I was hoping there was some cheat or something I could use for her?
Thanks for reading and I'll be sooo happy and grateful if someone can provide me with an anser (the easier the better - haha).

Thanks for the tutorial; has anyone noticed that the character file bloats hugely after surgery? I tried cloning John Smith Tricou (suitably dressed, nothing fancy) as a Professor over Prof. Edwin Payne, both characters were around 200 Kb before, and Prof. Edwin jumped to over 600 Kb after surgery. I wondered if there might be a fix for this in SimPE. Obviously, the game will get enormous if you customise all your NPCs. I seem to remember Q at SimPE mentioning this somewhere, but i don't think he gave a solution?

That's amazing!!! I think you have given me an idea... I´ve been trying to create an old Regency period neighborhood for my Sims, but I simply HATE when townies and NPCs show off wearing modern clothes. Do you think there is something to be done with SimPE in order to dress up an entire village as in old times? I would be MUST THANKFUL to you if you can give me a clue. See ya!

I've a quetion, dear... If I make a new maid, let's say I want a Victorian maid, and find Gina and "replace it" with a prettier face... If I make her wear a Victorian maid outfit as normal clothes, won't they change to the Maxis' maid uniform cause it's a work outfit?

I have a question regarding this thread, and without spending too much time digging I was hoping someone could answer a single question for me. I followed the tutorial and it worked perfectly **thanks**, my remaining question is now that my sim has been remodeled do I need to keep my template sim in the BIN or can I delete that Sim since I only used it as a template.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Once you do the surgery, you are free to do whatever you want with the template, keep it for further tweaking, delete it, whatever, it won't affect the sim you modified.

I use TS2 Enhancer to change eye color, skin tone, and some other things that SimPE can't do on the fly. It will cost you a few bucks, but to me it's worth it. I've used this program long before there ever was a SimPE, and have bought every pay update since.
You can use it free for 48-hours, but after that it turns into a pumpkin until you buy an unlock code. Use the "Genetics (DNA)" button to change your eye color, skin tone, etc.
http://sims2programs.com/
Make sure you keep your original email/reciept after purchase. You'll need it in the future for version updates that require an additional fee, or if you do a system format and need an unlock code to reinstall the software you originally purchased. If the system ID changes (it will after doing a hard drive reformat/OS reload) your original unlock code will no longer work.
Hope that helps you.
You'll like the program, I'm sure. It comes in handy when you really need it. It also saves some unnessesary aggrevation, and in my case, some choice 4-letter words. :)

This seems to be the most recently active NPC changing thread I can find. Here is what I want to do:Give NPC's medieval outfits
I've got the appearance thing down, thanks for that info.
Here is what I have done so far:
NPC Replacer by SimWardrobe has never worked quite right for me, despite much work and help from it's creator. It's probably some kind of error on my part.
1. I tried Madame Min's replacement set found at MATY and Genensims.
Problem: Does not take care of all NPC's and adds townies. I don't want any townies. It is nicely done though.
2. I found this hack here:
http://linna.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=89766&c=1&ht=0&page=1&pp=25#startcomments
Problem: It's very old and unsupported. Also, I want to keep some of the career outfits in the later EP's.
3. This thread here has some tantalizing information:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?p=395375#post395375
Problem: The instructions are hard to follow with a new SimPe.
4. This thread has instructions, and I'm ever so slowly working my way through them:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=95490&c=1&ht=0&page=1&pp=25#startcomments
Problem: It's old and hard to follow
Does anyone have any additional tutorials, information or hacks that can help? Hopefully if I keep staring at the tutorial, it will eventually make sense and I'll replace my NPC's. I'd love to hear from someone who has done this successfully with the details of how.
ETA: Option #4 actually worked! Now I'm ever so slowly redoing the NPC's in more appropriate garb for my medieval hood.
BTW: You can change eye color in simpe with the sim surgery tool. It's even easier is to get contacts and use those.
Be warned, the lack of support and general rudeness on the part of the Sims 2 Enhancer creator is legendary. It is about $20 to buy it, so you should know that before you plunk down the money.

I've been looking for a beginner friendly NPC tutorial since I just broke down and decided to try my hand at SimPE, luckily, I found this super easy to understand tutorial!
I've been having an issue though....
I follow all your steps, but once I close Sims 2 and open up SimPE....
and my newly created sim doesn't show up in the Sims Surgery window anywhere. When I open back up Sims or even go to a house then back out to a neighborhood, my newly created sim is gone.
I've tried this a few times to the same results, even if i save my game-the sim dissapears from the bin.
Is the fact that I can't change their last name from "N" without the debugging being deactivated, or is that a normal thing? I didn't see that mentioned.
I haven't seen anyone else have this issue?
Thanks so much for any input!

When I open up my custom neighboorhood and go on sim surgery there are no sims showing up.
I tested it with the standard neighboorhood and there it works, the sims in the neighboorhood show up.
Has anyone solved this problem before or has an idea what's the reason for that?

You can have them wear whatever you wish. :D
I have tried to change the looks and the clothing for my professors in my university, and when I go into the game, they are wearing the teacher uniform and not the clothes I picked out for them to wear. Do you have any idea on how to change this? I would really appreciate it if you could find a way, thanks.
