View Full Version : Roleplay Brainstorming/Planning Thread v2.0
AtropaMandragora
29th Mar 2010, 01:47 PM
This thread is for discussing existing or possible new roleplays. If you have an idea for an RP that you would like to elaborate on, with the help and suggestion of others, or if you simply want to investigate whether other people might be interested in it, this is the place to do so. If you have questions regarding roleplays or roleplaying, this is the place to ask them. If you're looking to start a small, one-on-one kind of RP with someone, and seek someone to do it with, this is the place for posting/discussing such announcements.
PMs are of course a good way of doing it also, especially in the case of a smaller, one-on-one RP, where the discussion might be of little interest to anyone other than you and the other concerned party, but that said, this thread is basically for sharing ideas, coordinating efforts, finding players for your RP, and planning events and plotlines for RPs, regardless of whether they are already in existence or still on the drawing board. :)
This is version 2.0 of this thread. The old one was getting rather long, and we felt that it was time to start fresh with a new one. The old one still remains, here (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=338374), for anyone interested in looking back on the discussion and the ideas to have been tossed around.

I'd like to repost my idea of a newbie RP, in some sort of piratical or historical setting, with a maximum post length.
The basic gist would be people would sign up with their characters and bios, and all RP posts would be a minimum of the forum rule of 8 lines, and a maximum of 30 lines, so that the thread doesn't get intimidating. Bios for apps would have that rule relaxed, and some exceptions would be allowed, but it would be a nice, newbie freindly RP.
If, once it gets started, people wanted to branch it off into a proper RP thread with no post cap, that would be fine, and then the newbie RP could be changed to a different topic so as to keep it welcoming to people of all different types.
I would like for the first setting to be either on board a pirate ship, or in Elizabethan London. Also note that I won't go to the trouble of actually making a nice first post and all unless I have five people interested. I hate starting RPs that die before they begin.
(NOTE: The above post was eight lines long, nine if you include this one. It's not that difficult to fill that much space)

I would be interested in the newbie RP. Would only newbies be allowed to join, or would it be open to anyone who wants to play and stay within the set limits? I ask because I worry there won't be five newbies who post their interest, but maybe with some other roleplayers willing you would get the five. I really hope this happens. If not this, then something new that doesn't require jumping into a long established game.

Anyone would be welcome who is willing to stay in the post limit.
The title of the RP would probably be "The Short Post RP: Pirate Version" or "Short RP: Pirates"
It is/would be targeted to newbies, but anyone would be welcome.
I would be participating as an RPer as well, so between you and I we would need another three.

I've been interested in participating in an RP for a very long time, but was never confident enough to try. I would love to join your casual RP to get a feel for things.
I've read the forum rules and guidelines, but still have some questions regarding RPs:
How often do people post? Is it an everyday thing or is it scheduled on certain days for everyone to meet? Is that something that depends on the rules that the creator of the RP sets?
Also, after you make a post, do you just wait for someone to pick up where you left of or interact with you? And what if you don't like where the story is heading or what someone's done to your character? I guess these are things I'll learn to deal with as game goes on?
I've looked at some of the ongoing RPs and some old ones too, but I guess I gotta actually be in one in order to get the hang of things, right?
I hope more people are interested in this RP; I would love to finally try this out.

kiwisun - Glad to see someone interested in joining. :D We certainly do need more players around here. Oh, and there's no reason to be self-conscious. We've all been new players at one point, and from my experience, everyone here has always been willing to help any new players out, and help them find their footing. So don't worry, you'll be fine. :)
As for your questions; people generally tend to reply within a few days, sometimes a week, though there have of course been occasions when it's been longer. It all depends on variables such as time and inspiration; forcing your writing is rarely a good thing.
There are no specific days when people meet up, most of us just check the forum on a daily basis, to see if anyone has responded to our characters' posts. :) Meaning yes, we usually do wait for someone to pick up with their character where we left off with ours. A good way of making other people aware that you're looking for interaction, is to mark your character as "approachable", which is usually done in an out-of-character (ooc) message at the bottom of your post.
Other times, people have discussed interactions through PMs, and are playing them out in the RP. When you see two (or more) characters already involved in interaction, and want your character to join in, it's considered polite to first contact the players in question, and ask if it's okay for you to join. Like I said, some people might be RPing out what they have already discussed in PMs, and so might be pursuing a very specific storyline, which leaves room for no interruptions, while others might just be going with the flow, and thus are open to anything that might come their way.
As for not liking where the story is heading; no one should ever RP your character for you. They should merely have their characters respond and react to the reaction/comment you yourself have written for your character. If for example, someone was to write that their character hit your character, that would be considered godmodding; they would be indirectly taking control ofyour character, and decide for you that your character was not fast enough to dodge. That is not okay. However, if they were to write that their character was aiming a punch at your character, that would be fine, because then you'd be at liberty to describe your character as being able to dodge, or parry the blow. Though that said, fights are usually better addressed through PMs first, just so that everyone involved is on the same page with what character does what.
Should you still have a problem with the way things are going, I would suggest PMing the other player, and address the issues with them, so that the two of you can agree, and the other player can edit their post.
I think that was about it. Hope it helped. But if not, or if you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)

I'd like to do a smallish roleplay (big groups scare me for no apparant reason), and maybe a maximum of 5-6 people? (A one-one would be great)
However, it'd be nice to have something like a word minimum, and the subject would be some sort of fantasy thing (i.e. vampires of the non-sparkly kind, elves, sci-fi-ish alien stuff, etc.)
My skills are a little rusty at the moment (it's been a while since my last serious RP), and I'd like to get back into roleplaying as soon as possible. ^-^

There's only six active players in Sweet 16 atm, though more people do have characters and do post, very rarely.
In large groups small cliques tend to form in RPing...
I only RP on any sort of a frequent basis with two people in sweet 16 for example.
If I get two more people interested, then there will be an RP with strict(ish) post length guidelines, that posts would have to be between 8 and 30 lines. After a reasonable amount of time people would be welcome to split that into an RP with no maximum. If there is a request for it being about science fiction, than I would be happy to make it a little bit more space-ship/alien fighting rather than pirate like, or even combine the two so that its space pirates! Assuming none of the other interested parties object.
As to a one-on-one RP, I would offer, but I have a lot of trouble with those, and am already involved in one.

I was actually thinking space pirates too! Although I have to admit, I don't know much about science fiction or pirates, so I'm up for anything. And aren't pirates the bad guys? Though it would be interesting to play a bad guy, hmm.... lol
I think my biggest concern is that I may not come up with enough details to make which ever theme we chose to do sound realistic, but I'll try anyway :D
Actually, if we do go with the space pirates idea, maybe it could be something like, a small group of good aliens get attacked by pirates and in order to survive, they have to become pirates themselves and wreak havoc on others. Meanwhile, they plot to overthrow the bad pirates, regain their freedom, and restore peace to the galaxy. Overtime however, they had been force to do so many horrible things that by the time their "plan" takes action, they can't differentiate themselves from the real pirates anymore.
.....ok, maybe its getting a bit too heavy, lol. Looking forward to others' ideas, most likely way better than mine. But maybe this could spark others' interest to join? Like I said, the theme doesn't really matter; I'm up for anything. :)

I really like that idea kiwisun actually.
So, how about for the space pirates RP we have the following scenario:
In the year 2330, the crew of the star ship Edelfrak (which consists both of humans and other species of the Confederation) was returning from a peaceful scientific and diplomatic mission on a planet many light years from Earth. They had taken on a number of alien passengers, and a huge amount of valuable natural resources (water and hydrogen, I suppose) and valuable trade goods (let's not even bother pretending we're not stealing from star trek and call it latinum). Before they arrived at earth however, their ship was boarded and commandeered by the evil pirates of the ship Nerot. These pirates have been a nuisance to the United Confederation of Planets for decades, but the few ships they steal are not worth the trouble of the Confederation to pursue.
So now the crew of the Edelfrak and their passengers from the other planet (ummm, Arcsine Theta) must reclaim their ship and get back to earth with their precious cargo reasonably intact.
I could see that being an actual game RP, where decisions the characters make and initial configurations lead to (through algorithims and random numbers, so I can still play) changes in the game world, and controlling things, rather than the free form RPs that are around now.
AtropaMandragora- I think you're the last one around who still was in a game modded not-freeform RP. Could you tell me a little more about how they work, either here or in PM? I have game modded some table top RPs, and it seems like the structure would be similar.
ETA: I just reread that. This would be really difficult in an RP with post length restrictions.
ProlificStorm- So far you are the only one who seems most fond of the idea of the RP having post length restrictions. Would you (or anyone else) object if, for the space pirates RP, these restrictions were never in place? No one will judge you at all harshly if your posts are not very long, promise.
ProlificStorm
1st Apr 2010, 09:22 PM
I would not mind if the game did not have post length restrictions. I simply do not have the time to write huge posts, so as long as that's not expected of me, I'd be fine without a restriction on length. Who knows, if I get really into it, I might write more than I anticipate anyway. :)

Furry - Oh wow, that's a tough one. I'm not really sure what to tell you. I guess it depends a little on the aim of the RP? If it's not a contest one, where people get eliminated/win or loose battles etc, as the RP progresses, it's a little less complicated. Kind of like how Vipers' Nest turned out after Shenanigans took it on; whenever she announced a new day, she sort of set the scene and the circumstances. It wasn't all too different from the free-form ones.
But again, I'd have to say it all depends on how much game host control you'd be going for?

I already worked out a game mechanic. I think it will work out nicely.

If you get involved in an RP, how much of a time requirement is there? I'm asking because I have a severe spinal cord injury and can't always get on the computer. I also write (suspense) which takes up a lot of my time.
I would be interested in having a medieval theme (there is more available at MTS2 for that era than any other historical one -- besides which, it was quite normal for teens to marry in that era). Two or three kingdoms can be created by making use of downtown and/or the shopping district. Nobles often married outside of their particular kingdom.
Fanciful Sims has an interesting RP challenge for that era, but there isn't a lot of activity. And I'm interested in seeing what others are doing with their games.
I do have a medieval novel I was writing that takes place in Scotland (the Isle of Mull where my husband's family originated). I wouldn't mind playing that novel out in the sims.

celticlass64 - The roleplaying in this forum isn't really based on what people do with their Sims games. We're not playing out the stories in the Sims, we merely write about standalone characters. Sometimes people make sims to use as their character's portrayal, but that's about it. Other than that, the roleplays have nothing to do with the Sims. :) It's just your standard play-by-post (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-by-post_role-playing_game) roleplaying.

I would love to start a roleplay based on a bunch of newly famous teens let loose in L.A. There would be two rival TV shows, (insert name) & (insert name), and you could be on either one. Show #1 would be a teen drama, kinda like Secret Life of an American Teenager. Show #2 would be a comedy, like an older version of ICarly. There would also be two managers (one for each show) that are supposed to care about what the teens do, but they don't. You would tell about your daily life, and I would announce when it was a new day. What do you think?

I had a strange idea, granted this was after watching Criminal Minds episodes, back to back, and those are strange enough.
Here's my idea for a RP:
The Streets of Belladonna (Random name, will probably be named some thing else, as this isn't related to Sims) are quiet, and calm. Over the years this small town has blossomed in to a bustling city, and with that, the under belly of this city formed. Crime, Homicide, and other criminal doings have tortured the residents of the 'east side'. Only a year ago (Lets say 2009) a mass murderer, ____ ____ (Left blank for this reason: The police want his family to not be harassed, so they've restricted his name) Stormed through the city, killing 25 people. His reason? Not yet discovered.
Its been two years now, and every ones almost forgotten about the... incident with ____ ____. But now his sister, ______, has gone missing. A neighbors dog was found dead in the bedroom of _____'s apartment. ______ ______ profile was that he'd leave some one else's pet, dead of course, in the targets home, mostly as a distraction as he crept up on them. And now, _____ _____ Has returned, and the city is terrified. The police are scrambling to find and stop ______ _______ before his newest victim, ______'s sister of all people, is found dead, or worse, never found at all.
Thanks for listening!

I'm not sure how this really works, but I have an idea that I'd like to put out.
It's a futuristic scenario on Earth, planetary exploitation has led the death of the once self-sustained ecosystems that fed life on the planet. Starvation, pollution, and plague have resulted in the collapse of free society, and humanity is reduced to pockets of starving nomads.
Several agencies have sprung up in the chaos. The lack of a structured society means the lack of ethics, and technological advancements equivalent to 3 industrial revolutions have taken place. However, each coalition jealously guards their secrets, and the state of humanity remains stagnant.
Several centuries have passed in this manner, and in that time hopeful groups of people have allied together. They've abandoned Earth to terraform other planets, and they leave behind a rotting cesspool.
One extra -terrestrial agency has decided to return to earth in attempts to reclaim it. Earth is now a rotting cesspool fill with hoards of forsaken people, a few mutated creatures, and a few scientific organizations stubbornly continuing their research, even though it benefits no one.
Our first protagonist is one known as JLR-37867, one of millions of brains produced and tested within the Agai-corp labs, a earth-bound organization. Unlike the thousands of failures before him, JLR performed remarkable well within the artificial world he was placed in.
He lived in a mythical land much like Hyrule or Middle Earth, a world in which magic existed and fantasy was real. After his success with this world, he was ejected from the only reality he had known. Synthetic copies of his brain were made and placed into robotic bodies, while his organic brain was stored away.
He awakens in a cruel world as model 2x-JLR01, the newest footsoldier for Agaicorp. He has no choice but to follow orders, as he exists only as their creation. His first task is to eliminate the previous 2x models (also based on organic simulation tested brains).
Ideally people can initially roleplay as the older 2x's, determining their personality and response to being replaced, I have a lot more options, as this story quickly adds on several characters, one of which being JLR's organic brain.
Another character is simply referred to as Corvus, who is a 200-year old humans being, sole survivor of the osiris experiment (more details if anyone's interested)
Another character is a blood icicle zombie!!!! (don't worry it all makes sense)
I have lots more but initially I'd like to ask if anyone would be interested in this kind of thing. that's all, thanks
FurryPanda
24th Jun 2010, 04:02 PM
I would be interested in a post apocalyptic RP, no doubt, but if I might make a suggestion?
All of the RPs here have people create their own characters, make their own history, and all that. The two you are describing sound as if they are already fully fleshed out by the game mod (you), and thus are better as NPC's, so the RP can grow organically based on what the players think about. Usually in a situation like this where there are multiple possible species, you would just describe each of them in the original post, and then put up a quota (no more than 2 super brains, or no more than 5 humans, or something), and also say that the RP can't start until a certain smaller quota is filled (at least one human and one super brain).
nornbear
24th Jun 2010, 07:20 PM
That makes a lot of sense, all the characters I described would be npcs.
People that wanted to join this would have several options.
-the could choose to be one of the older 2x models, synthetic brains based on organic ones that did not succeed in the Agai simulation, but performed rather well. As such, they would have the freedom to determine their own personality and their course of action. JLR01 will confront them early on and they can choose how to react to being replaced.
-they could choose to be a Garlock mutant, one of the roaming genetic anomaly(s). Naturally this gives a lot more freedom in determining mindset, abilities, and alignment.
I would limit the older 2x players to about 3, with 1 being the requirement. Garlocks have no restriction either way.
for those who want to create their own unique characters, the can select from several options.
A flesh and blood human (wouldn't have more than 3)
A cyborg (no limit)
An AI droid (also no limit)
for those three above, players would have to determine origin story and technology used, if any is.
This earth has several technology's available nanotech, monomolecular weaponry, zero point energy, cloning, genetic manipulation...use your imagination.
As long as the character makes sense, there shouldn't be a problem. Just don't be overpowered, and strong powers need explanation.
Psychokinesis is available too, but only to organic life, and is a very rare and difficult power to develop, but is potentially the most powerful. (the more organic your body is, the easier it is, cyborgs will have a tough time developing it, but cyborgs have more durable bodies {obviously})
Possible origins are:
escaped experiment
Earth organization lackey (hell you can even the the scientist in charge of the organization, but you'll have to flesh out the entire company)
Abandoned or forgotten weaponry (hibernating cyborg or robot)
agent in employ of the earth reclaiming front (ERF) these guys escaped earth and colonized the moon, but decided to return to earth and "reclaim" it. The have powerful satellites orbiting the planet, they're the only organization that does.
You could even been from another space group, but these characters are unlikely to visit earth.
You can always make your own, but it better make sense!
The overall goal, for most characters, will be to escape earth.
How you do this is entirely up to you, but if one thing is sure, it is that it will not be an easy task.
So that's some additional stuff, hopefully a bit more substantial. That is, if anyone's interested.

Its where the first player inserts something, like a coin.
Then the next player says what the first player gets and inserts another thing.
Here is an example:

I had this idea and I'm not sure if it would be an RP.
The idea is that players would post what they want their sim to look like, using normal and certain custom content I have (I will post a couple of pictures of what the cc looks like [and yes, I will use the black sensors over the parts that are obscene to minors]). Then I would pile 8 sims into a house and tell their story.
If this is not an RP, please tell me where to place it. If this is already being done, please tell me.
I am open to suggestions.

TMNTForever - I'm afraid that's not an actual roleplay, no. At least not in the sense referred to here. In this forum, we take on the roles of fictional characters (that are not necessarily sims-related in any way, shape or form) and write stories and interactions from their perspective. It's called play-by-post roleplaying, and you can read more about it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-by-post_role-playing_game). What you're describing sounds more like a bit of a hybrid, between a solo roleplay, and a Sims story.
That said, solo roleplays are of course welcome, but if you're planning on using pictures to illustrate the story, then it does belong in the Sims story forum instead. :)

Hello, I'm completely new here to RPing and this site in general. I'm wondering, if you start an RPG, can you have your own character involved? And in RPGs, what are the limits to characters and their powers? Or is that up to the creator?
I think I would enjoy playing many of the RPGs on this page, and I would love if you all would tell me if you ever started them.
AtropaMandragora
9th Nov 2010, 02:01 PM
TMNTForever - Honestly, it sounds like it's better done as a Sims story. Though I'm not sure how you should go about setting it up, with people's input the way you described it.
chloebee102 - I think you need to be a little more specific. How do you mean "how to work this forum"? If you want to start a roleplay, you start a new thread containing the neccessary info, such as basic rules, basic plot, application forms, etc. I'd recommend taking a look at some of the other RPs in this forum, for exampled of what info is needed/useful. :) And, of course, I'm always here to help.
sajere1 - Yup, you can indeed have your own characters involved. I don't think there has been a single RP lately, where the host hasn't participated themselves. As for limits regarding characters and their powers; it's basically up to the game host to decide such things. However, there is usually the godmodding rule; players roleplay their own characters only, and are not allowed to take control of someone else's character. That said, it's not a required rule. If a host wishes to set up an RP where players are allowed to control each other's characters, they're free to do so. Just as long as it is made clear in the game rules.

I mean like I dont really no how to use the thread maker like how to add pictures on it or how to add links and make it bold and stuff? Is there some sort of thread that tells you how to use the thread maker thingy?

chloebee102 - You'll find a brief tutorial on posting pictures here (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=330419). As for formatting the text, first make sure you have the options set to "extra formatting controls". To check/change it, go to "User Links" in the top right corner on this site, press "Edit options", scroll to the bottom to where it says "Miscellaneous Options", and make sure the scroll list by "Message Editor Interface" says "Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls". If it doesn't, change it, and press "Save changes". Then you go back to the Roleplay forum, and press the button to create a new thread. Now you should see buttons similar to the text formatting options in MS Word and the like. B for Bold, I for Italic, etc. Just hover the mouse cursor over them, and they'll tell you what they are. To insert an image, you click the "Insert image" button, and just put the URL in the box that pops up.
If you're still unsure and want to test, I suggest sending a private message to yourself. :) That way, you can mess around and try things out, without anyone else seeing it, until you've got it figured out.

OK, I understand. Can roleplays be about anything? And is there need of a specific plot? And I understand godmodding, but if there is a plot and someone wants to introduce a new character in the middle of the game, are they allowed to? (I'm guessing this would be in the rules, but I have no clue.)
Thanks! :)

sajere1 - Yes, roleplays can be about practically anything. The trick is to make it appealing enough to make other players interested enough to join. Regarding plots; no, there doesn't have to be a specific plot. Most roleplays develop one or more by the players themselves as they go along, and are usually referred to as freeform roleplays. However, there are still other roleplays where the plot is given by the host, and tend to be a little more formerly run (I can show you examples if needed. :) )
As for introducing a character in the middle of the plot... It's a little difficult to answer. If people want to join a roleplay, they first usually have to post an application. Some roleplays allow applications to be submitted only in the beginning, before the roleplay is officially started, although the more common thing is that applications remain open, and so players that want to join when the roleplay has already started and maybe been running for quite a while, are free to do so. But, if two or more characters are already interacting with one another, it is considered good form to PM the players first, and ask if you can have your character join in the situation they are roleplaying, since sometimes, players have planned a plot ahead of time, and are playing it out in the game. :)

Im thinking of joining a RP but I dont want to join one that is already full of posts and people because then i feel a little self concious(sp?) I kinda want one where its like normal life or fantasy like fairies witches etc. I dont really want to start one but I will if I cant find any like this. Can anyone point one out for me?

RoseGirl - I'm sorry to say that there are currently no RPs that fit all those criterias. There aren't all that many active RPS here, and the ones that are still running - Sweet Sixteen and Syrinx Festival - have been running for quite a while. You would, however, be more than welcome to join either of those. People here tend to be really helpful and more than willing to help newcomers settle in. :) You wouldn't be the first to join in the middle of a story, we've have newcomers join pretty much all throughout the RPs as it is. A tip is to create a character that's also new to the school (in the case of Sweet Sixteen). That way, they won't have to know anything about what's been happening so far. And as for Syrinx, that RP migh have been running for a while, but we haven't really gotten all that far, and so giving a recap wouldn't be all that difficult. Plus, again, you could always create a character that doesn't know any of the others... or even one that does know one or more of the other characters, but doesn't run into them until you want them to. :)

I've mentioned before about the love of being in a new roleplay, but not having any experience in the field, I could never set one up. However, it doesn't mean I couldn't brainstorm one and bounce ideas off people, right?
Something Futuristic, but not too Sci-Fi where the entire Universe would need to be planned out
Very Humanistic figures - even if they don't happen to be Human at all [Flawed, etc.]
Set Location, Theme, or motive
But with the flexibility for addition of new Members for the RP
And also, freeform continuation
Anything else I can think of...?
So I'm thinking of, just a possible line;
The Year 2109, in a Space Colony upon Mars; Transportation isn't at it's ripest between Planets since the Orbiting Colony about Jupiter was destroyed unexpectedly around ten years ago, with little to no report. Mars has a few towns full of people, under large Atmospheric Shields, which protect the Climate and Protect the Inhabitants in a similar way to how our own Atmosphere works here on Earth. The Towns large are expansive enough for people to come and go without knowing every face, but you cannot become too familar; people go to be taken back to Earth very frequently, strangely so, and a group of you are wanting to know why.
Recently, in your Town, a lot of friends you knew have all moved back to Earth to restart their lives there, for their spaces to be either left, or re-filled with Alien inhabitants, on Vocational Visits.
And that's where I stop!
I hope someone can help add on, pick apart, rewrite, or come up with better ideas than my own, but something like this I think could appeal to a bunch of audiences, and could be quite fun. :)

RoseGirl - Well, like I said, Syrinx might have been running for a while, but we haven't really gotten all that far, so a recap/synopsis wouldn't be all that extensive. In-game, we've only roleplayed a couple of hours.
Petchy - You don't need any experience to set up a roleplay. :) Looking at the existing ones might give you a good idea of what needs to be covered, and there are always people around to ask for advice etc, should you feel you want/need it. I myself can't afford to get involved in something new, but I'd be more than willing to try and help, should you decide to give it a go. Plus, we all learn as we go along. The first RP I hosted was the Vampire; the Masquerade one, and it's still alive and well (albeit on a different board), even though I had no experience in leading an RP. :D

Hi there :) I used to search for one on one roleplay partners over Neopets, but they have become too strict for me to bear. The point of one on one roleplaying is to find a partner, create a plot or even just have a very broad idea of one and then privately (over Email) play out that plot and let it unfold. I'm not sure if any of you do that on this website but I figured I'd give it a try and see who's interested.
I only do modern roleplays. I have very fun plots and pairings in mind for any of you who are interested. We can discuss it here before moving to email.
Thanks :)

yeah, i'm a bit confused and need some help on this. i've been rping for god know how long but this is my first time attempting to do it at modthesims. i'm VERY new here though i've adventured around the site many times before. what rps are open for new players and how exactly does it work? i mean, replying and knowing where to find it and stuff.
i've found this to be VERY confusing. normally i'd adventure around until i understood how everything works.. sadly, i had not even the slightest idea what i was doing D:
help? XD

sparky - First of all, welcome. :) It's always nice to see a new face. Sadly, this roleplay forum is no longer what it once was. There is currently only one active roleplay; the Syrinx Festival one. The others unfortunately have faded due to lack of players. We're not all that many in Syrinx either, but we're managing so far. However, it will soon move to a new board of it's own, with a setup much like most other RPG sites.
As for the roleplay setups; unlike most roleplaying boards, on this one, each main roleplay happens in one and the same thread. All players post in that thread, and use the subject bars of their messages to annouce what characters are involved, and where they are at. Such as my latest one (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3430465#post3430465) in the Syrinx RP, that says "Daniel with Lavinia and Kendra - backstage parking".
As for where to find information; all information regarding a specific RP is usually found in the very first post of the thread; it lists rules, plot, application forms and active characters, and basically any other information you might need.
Hope that helps explain things at least a little. If you have more questions, please don't be afraid to ask. It's easy to grow blind to the quirks of a system when you've gotten used to it, which I have, and so there might be things I'm missing in my explanation. :)

It's totally up to you. :) Though keep in mind that sadly, this forum doesn't see much action these days - which I've been trying to change, but I'm at a loss of what to do - and so it might be a while before a new one starts up. Also, please do know that you are more than welcome to join the Syrinx RP. It has been running for a while, but in-game, we haven't actually roleplayed more than a few hours. Plus, we are planning on moving on to a new day in the RP shortly, which will give a bit of a fresh start. :)

Well me and my friend had this very fun roleplay going a couple of years ago. It lasted about two and a half years, and I miss it a lot. It was a creature roleplay, but animal related creatures. Like nekos (cat-people), werewolves etc. It was sort of a romance/adventure thing. It was usually pretty easy to follow since it was the sort of roleplay where there is about one line each post because your character says something and waits for the other to respond. As long as everyone is active it is really fun. Is anyone interested? If so, I'll elaborate on the plot, because there actually was one.

I'd love to start/participate in a RP, rather private or public. :)
I've never tried before but i have some ideas.
-A small town RP where things just arent what they seem
-A RP about life in a mental institution (No crazy stuff, not all institutionalized people are crazy)
-A RP about a house full of runaways and how they survive together
-A RP about six teenage aliens who fall to earth and their trials and errors of fitting into the human population(comedy! will definitely require some creative thinking)
Just a few ideas there. I really want this thread to live again. LIVE I SAY LIVE! :D

I really like the idea of the mental institution, it could be really fun... I really enjoy stuff where the characters are trapped but can still actually have an interesting plot. To be honest, now that you've mentioned it, I'm kind of hooked on that idea... lool.
As for the first one, that could be fun too. I already did a sort of 'Monster' RP, which is basically the same thing cause it ended up rolling off that topic and being mostly about an evil spirit that posessed the characters, which was funny. Anyway that could be a really fun idea! :)

And out of the two of them, are you okay with doing both? (mental institution//small town)

I am thinking of a role-play of life where the Stake family lives in a §2,000,000 mansion and decide to have a baby. When the Stake family hosts a party, they spill beer in a power strip filled with the plugs from lights, bar equipment and the DJ Turntables. the power strip catches on fire and the flame hits a gas line and the house explodes. The family now lives in a small apartment and the baby must get his family back in line. Can the baby do it?

Hola! I do have an idea. I'm pretty new to this particular site, but I'm no Play-by-Post newbie. Does anyone feel up for a Warriors RP? (For those who don't know, I'll elaborate)
You are a cat, part of either the traditional four clans (Thunder, River, Shadow, and Wind) or ones that the GM makes (ex Birch, Oak,, Pine, and Maple), and you are either a warrior (typical clan cat) medicine cat (doctor, religious leader), queen (mother cat), deputy (second to the leader), and leader (self-explanatory). If you are not of age, however, you may be an elder (respected older cat, unable to fight and hunt, sometimes cats too injured to fight and hunt), apprentice (six to twelve "moons", or months) or kit (newborn to six moons). There are many variations, and it is really up to the GM the specific rules. They follow a "Warrior's Code". The traditional one is
1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.
3. Elders, Queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
7. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
8. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires.
9. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
10. A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
11. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
12. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
13. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.
14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.
Exceptions
Cats on their way to the Moonstone or Moonpool are allowed to cross other Clans' territories to get to their destination - WindClan grounds in on the moorland and ThunderClan grounds by the lake, in the forest.[5]
At the lake, cats may travel on other Clans' grounds as long as they are within two fox-lengths of the lake; for instance, to go to a Gathering.
Additional Rules
The following rules are not specifically stated in the Warrior Code, but are expected to be followed:
Medicine cats may not have a mate or kits.
Kits must stay in camp until they are apprenticed, and are not allowed to hunt.
The safety of the Clan is more important than the safety of one cat.
Clans must not unite together to drive out another Clan.
Clans must not force another Clan to share territory.
Enemy patrols must not attack cats if they are returning from a mission all four Clans agree on.
Rejected Codes
Throughout history, several other rules were proposed for introduction into the Warrior Code, however, they were turned down. These rules were:
Only cats of pure forest blood can be Clan members
Each Clan may only eat the prey they are most suited for
All Clan cats must believe in StarClan
Breaking the Warrior Code
The rules are often broken. All of the Clans break the rules many times although ThunderClan is the Clan that questions and debates the Code the most.
Punishment
The Clan Leader may choose to punish cats who broke the Warrior Code. These include scolding, giving a warrior apprentice duties, or giving an apprentice an unpleasant task (like when Bluestar put Firepaw in charge of taking care of Yellowfang for feeding her). In severe cases, the cat may be exiled from the Clan; such as RiverClan exiling Graystripe, or Bluestar exiling Tigerclaw.
Cats who would murder for no reason or caused much pain to other cats for no reason would go to the Place of No Stars instead of StarClan (Tigerstar, Hawkfrost, Darkstripe, etc.)
It's long, I know. But I'm trying to be thorough. Sometimes the GMs add a #16, if it is set long after the traditional series, and sell it by saying it was created between the series and the RPG. It can be as traditional or non-traditional as you want. Other things:
Names:
There is a two part name. The first if given at birth. The second changes throughout their life. When born up to three moons old, the second part it "kit". Three to six, "paw". Six and up, for warriors, medicine cats, queens, elders, and deputies, is mostly your choice of something natural. A cat in the wild wouldn't be "Firemotorcycle." Also, the second part is traditionally one syllable, or sometimes two, but rarely. Leaders end in "star". Some combinations:
Leaders: (one per clan, have nine lives)
Ivorystar
Featherstar
Mintstar
Deputies: (one per clan)
Oceanclaw
Brightheart
Graystripe
Warriors:
Whitetail
Grayeye
Spottedpelt
Medicine cats: (Must have been a medicine cat apprentice from start of apprenticeship to become a medicine cat, one per clan)
Leafpool
Greenleaf
Dandelionlegs
Apprentices:
Bramblepaw
Berrypaw
Charmpaw
Kits:
Lakeskit
Shinekit
Moonkit
Elders and queens keep their previous names.
I really hope all those examples helped you figure out the pattern.
Ranks:
The ranks are generally as follows:
Leader
Deputy
Medicine cat
Elders
Warriors/Queens
Apprentices
Kits
Food chain:
Cats must hunt to survive. They also are hunted.
Prey:
Mice
Rats
Birds
Squirrels
Predators:
Foxes
Badgers
Twolegs (humans)
The cats send out daily "patrols"- usually one or two for hunting and two for borders.
If I left anything out, please, please let me know! Also, I'm sorry it's sooo long. I put lots of thought into collecting all the data. I don't have a particular plot yet, but I was thinking that maybe a hurricane comes, destroys everything, and the cats have to start over from scratch, working together with rival clans to survive?
Oops! Forgot something...
Religion:
Religion is not forced upon the cats, but most cats believe in StarClan, the clan of dead cats. They believe every one is a star, and they make up Silverpelt (the night sky). They worship them and call upon them for guidance. The medicine cat and medicine cat apprentice travel to the Moonstone once a moon if times of peace, but can make special trips during trouble. Also, when a new leader is named, they must spend the night with the Moonstone to speak with StarClan. The leaders may or may not accompany the medicine cats.

haha space pirates;D not a bad idea I would join that:)

What about a circus roleplay? All the characters work in/with the circus and live on the circus train.

Would anyone be interested in playing this scenario? I have a rough plot worked out if people like that sort of thing, but if it’s not appropriate for this please tell me.
Um, I’m also new to the whole roleplaying play-by-post, but I hope people like the idea.
Can be anywhere from two people to however many want to play.
Game Title:
Galaxy-sized Haystack
Genre:
Space, adventure, drama
History:
In 2956, Earth and it’s colonies, along with 3 other alien governments, form the Kabira Collective. The Collective allows for safe trade and travel through the use of one language, one currency, and theoretically, one legal system. It was named after Antonio Kabira, the founder of the Collective.
Within six years the Kabira Collective were at war with Separatist from within the Collective, as well as threats from outside the Collective as other alien governments formed their own groups in response to Kabira. Two especially stood out, the Ragu’Lith Empire, and the Lao Alliance.
The fighting lasted for 100 years.
Our game starts ten years after an uneasy truce has been declared, and is conceptualised as a cross between Firefly and Star Trek  .
Starter Characters:
Smuggler
You were double crossed by your fiancé, who took your crew and left you with only a rundown ship. You are now stranded on second-rate planet. You need new crew, but can get by for now with just a pilot. You have time sensitive cargo that needs to be shifted, immediately, and no questions asked.
Ex-slave Pilot
You are a teenager on the run from Fugitive Law Enforcer since your previous ‘employer’ was brutally killed. You have a secret buried in your subconscious that you can’t access, and a crappy song in your head that you can’t shake. But the Lawman isn’t the only one after you, and you need to get off the planet, fast. What better way than some hot, older Smuggler looking for a pilot?
Fugitive Law Enforcer :report:
This is how it usually goes:
Get the case – find the evidence – discover and eliminate suspects based on evidence – arrest the guilty – jail the guilty – close case – get new case.
This is how it went:
Get the case – have suspect given to you – have evidence given to you – wake up to bullet hole above your bed when you question your good fortune – have suspect escape – have people try to rough you up – decide to find out what it going on – find out that the rabbit hole goes both deeper and higher than you ever wanted to know – have place of work blow up with you as suspect – curse – flee.
This is how you hope it goes:
find brat that kicked off the whole mess – clear name – take vacation – get new case.
Game play note
I noticed that people when they started a game they give a whole list of character traits and the like, but with this game I was wondering if the details could come across more naturally:
Azura looked in the mirror as she brushed her long, red hair. Her eyes were still a bit puffy and red from crying, which made her green eyes seem brighter. She snorted a little in self-disgust at her pale, freckled skin, but a life lived in an underground shelter did little to help her look like the sun kissed celebrities who had the money to live on the surface.
You get more of a feel for the person of the character than just a list of characteristics.
That’s all. Is anyone interested in playing this? Can anyone spot any obvious glaring holes or mistakes? Suggestions?
If anyone is interested, and have questions about playing this as a game, could you PM me (through the site)? I’ve got a template for blank characters to fill (if you want to), with boxes for things like equipment and stuff so people can keep track of what their character’s have.
Thank you for reading.

How about a theatre-themed RP? A group of young people in a big city, each with difficulties in their lives, bonded together by an after-school-activity that lets them express their emotions without harming anyone physically?
How does that sound? :D The link's here (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=4039158&posted=1#post4039158), by the way.

I really wasn't sure where to ask this, sorry if it doesn't go here. lol.
Anyway, I know when I played TS2 there were a few rp sites. Like a world or town and people would use their sims as their characters and rp together. They were forums and it was one theme or story or whatever for the whole site.
I was just wondering if enough people would be interested, or still do those. I have done a lot of just regular rp sites like that only not with the sims and they use actors or models as their characters. I just didn't want to make one for TS3 if no one would be interested. It would limit those that could play by whether or not they had TS3 or TS2.
