View Full Version : Another question about beach lots
15th Jul 2010, 03:25 AM
My university is on an island so many of the lots I use for off-campus housing are beach lots. I've been trying to give my university hood a makeover with a new map, using Mootilda's Hood Replacer but found that I couldn't place my beach lots after changing the map. I can place empty beach lots but I'd like to continue using the beach lots I've already built. I also tried placing them in a new university hood (made with the same new map I'm trying to use) and again they couldn't be placed. In the past I've been able to successfully place copies of these beach lots in my main hood. Comments, explanations, and suggestions are welcome!

Beach lots are particularly finicky. Are the slopes in the old and new terrains similar? If not, that could be your problem. You could either use SimCity 4 to adjust the terrain up or down to match your old neighborhood, or you can use the in-game terraforming tools, if you have the appropriate EPs (FreeTime or later?).

Mootilda -- Thanks. With the in-game tools I was able to place the lots by raising the terrain 1 click -- only to have the game crash when I tried to enter one of the lots. I could probably get the results I want if I continued to play around with it, both in-game and in SC4 -- but I think it would be less time consuming to just rebuild the lots or build new ones. Finicky indeed!

Once you're able to place the lots, the LotAdjuster can help you to remove any crashing that occurs. Again, these problems occur because of a disconnect between the slope of the lot and neighborhood terrains. Until you can actually place the lot, you need to adjust the neighborhood terrain to match the lot. However, once the lot is placed, you can either continue to adjust the neighborhood terrain to match the lot, or you can use the LotAdjuster to change the lot edges to match the neighborhood. I know that I have a short tutorial somewhere... let me see whether I can find it again.
Hmmm... I thought that I had a picture of the LA parameters, but the thread must have been deleted. Anyway, here are a couple of explanations; it's a simple process:

Thanks for the info -- I'll try using LotAdjuster.
