View Full Version : MTS Official Contest: Foundations! (Round 4!)

HystericalParoxysm
5th Aug 2010, 10:57 AM
Welcome to the MTS Foundations Contest! This is intended as a fun contest that anyone can join - even if you don't think you're a great builder/decorator! Challenge yourself, and see what fun stuff others come up with, too!

Please do not post an entry on this thread if you are not on the contestant list! You must be a Round 1 contestant to continue to rounds 2, 3, and 4. However, you can still post your entry in the Chat Thread!

The Foundations Rules - What You May Build:

You are building a residential lot, on the foundation given. One foundation per round - four foundations total, so you'll be building four houses for this contest, one per week.

While you are welcome to get as creative as you want in structure and style, you may not touch the foundation (besides adding textures to it) - you have to build around it. It's the "footprint" of the lot.

Your house should have, at least:

A living room

A kitchen

A bathroom

Minimum 1 bedroom

You can build more than that if you like and have room for it - if you want to make it a 6 bedroom house with a rec room and study and garage (or whatever you want), go for it - you may not be able to show off everything for the contest though.

You may build as many stories up as you want - it can be a single level house or more, your choice.

You CANNOT add a basement, as this may require modification of the foundation. No, you can't add a WA non-foundation basement either.

You do not have to cover the entire foundation in walls - if you want to leave part as a porch or whatever, you may.

You may use build cheats such as constrainFloorElevation and moveObjects as long as you do not modify the foundation with them. It must stay the same height and shape.

You may not use split levels to extend or modify the footprint of the lot as an alternative to using foundations. Nor can you do floating floor tiles to extend the footprint. The supplied foundation is the footprint you must use - that's why it's the theme of the contest, and not just "build whatever you want on a 30x30". ;)

You may not rotate the foundation on the lot, or put it on a larger lot. It needs to stay on a 30x30, with the front as shown in the images (bottom of the picture is the front of the lot).

You can add a carport, garage, pool, gazebo, etc., as long as it does not modify the foundation, and as long as it doesn't add additional buildable living space - if you add an attached garage, for instance, it needs to just be for the parking space, and you can't build rooms on top of it attached to the main house.

There is no limit on the price of the lot in-game.

Your Pictures:

You'll need to be taking pictures of your lots you've built so we can see what you've made. Please make sure these images are AT LEAST 800x600 pixels so we can see them clearly. You may use larger images if you wish.

Photoshopping: This contest is focusing on your building and decorating skills - not your Photoshopping skills. For this reason, please do not do any significant modifications to your pictures in Photoshop or similar image editors - you may crop, add a little text, borders, etc... but please keep it to an absolute minimum.

Required Pics: For each round, you will be doing several pictures. Please do not collage your pictures together.

You may move sims into the house to make picture taking easier. The sims may appear in the pictures if you want - or not, it's up to you.

The pics you need are:

Street View: One picture of the lot from the outside, from the front, with all the levels showing, from a sim's eye view.

Floor Plans: One picture of each level of the lot, from a high overhead view. If you have multiple levels, you may post these collaged together into a single image, or as separate images - your choice.

Living Room: One picture of the living room, from a sim's eye view.

Kitchen: One picture of the kitchen, from a sim's eye view.

Bedroom: One picture of one of the bedrooms, from a sim's eye view.

Three Bonus Pics: You may post up to three additional photos of whatever part of your lot you want to show off - another one of the bedrooms, a cute bathroom, the garden, whatever. These can also be additional angles of the living room, kitchen, or bedroom. Whatever you want.

Custom Content:

To focus on your skills at building and decorating and not your downloadaholicism, we're giving you a limit: No more than 10 pieces of custom content used on each lot! And there's a scoring bonus for using no CC (see below).

If you DO use CC... you'll need to list what CC you've used, so we can count up for scoring - you don't have to have a link/credit, just indicate that it is CC, i.e. "CC used: Dining chair, dining table, custom pattern on table and chair"

A "piece" of custom content is: One particular item in the catalog. You can use any particular item as many times as you want and it still just counts as one. For example, one custom dining chair, used four times, would be 1 piece. Using its matching custom table would make it 2 pieces. Applying a custom pattern to them would make it 3 pieces. A custom counter and its matching island, and overhead cabinet would be 3 pieces.

EP/SP/Store content: Does NOT count as CC. You may use any items from the base game, World Adventures, Ambitions, High End Loft Stuff, and/or the Store content. As long as it's official stuff, you can use it as much as you like with no scoring penalty. We realize this may give a bit of an advantage to people with more official stuff, but it's just too much of a pain to score otherwise.

Free/Pay: Doesn't matter for this contest. While we always encourage people to use free content and support free sites, if you choose to use CC, you may use pay items for this contest. Of course, if you would like to upload your house to MTS when the contest is over, make sure you use all free stuff!

Scoring Bonuses: For using no CC or low CC, there is a scoring bonus for each round. See the "scoring" section below for details.

Scoring:

Scoring will be as follows. Point values are maximums for each category:

Structure - Interesting architecture, unique interior layout, uses the foundation well, good roofing, etc. - 10 points.

Decor/Furnishings - Well decorated and furnished (furniture, paintings, etc.) inside and out - 10 points.

Landscaping - Trees, bushes, plants, ponds, etc. which add to the look of the lot - 10 points.

Theme - Lot has a cohesive theme or style which works together with the architecture. You may choose any theme or style you want (even if that's just "contemporary"), but try to keep it somewhat consistent through the house - 10 points.

Aesthetic - Attractive, nice colours, good flow, looks pretty - 10 points.

Presentation - Good pictures, good angles, well-presented, interesting text descriptions - 10 points.

Wow Factor - Not just a house but a really GREAT house, over and above anyone's expectations - 10 points.

Custom Content Used - Maximum of 10 pieces. Scoring bonus for using none - 20 points:

No CC: 20 points
1 piece: 10 points
2: 9
3: 8
4: 7
5: 6
6: 5
7: 4
8: 3
9: 2
10: 1

At the end of all of the rounds, we will add up each participant's score for all the rounds (your total score). Whoever has the highest score wins. :)

Eliminations:

This is a NO ELIMINATION contest. This means that even if you have the lowest score in a round, you can still continue with the contest. While there will be a winner and runners-up, the main point of this contest is to be a fun challenge to your building and decorating skills.

Judging:

Judging will be done by MTS staff and will be scored based on various points (detailed above).

Judge comments are optional - judges are not required to make comments, but they may if they wish. PM me after scores are posted for each round if you would like me to PM you your judge comments.

Prizes:

We're offering a few fun little prizes for those who get the top scores:

First Place: A one-time change of custom user title (of your choice), a specially-created unique avatar, and a "Contest Winner!" achievement on your profile. Also, a unique and exclusive in-game trophy, created by the talented cmomoney!
Second & Third Place: A specially-created unique avatar.

All contest participants will get an achievement for doing so (including those with the highest scores).

If you would like to donate an additional prize to the winners, please PM me. :)

Time Period/Duration:

Each round lasts 1 week from the time of the round being posted There will be a total of four rounds, with a different foundation to build on each round, so the contest will last 4 weeks (if no extensions are given). Extensions will only be given if more than 20% of participants ask for more time to finish up their entries - but I don't mind holding the thread open for an extra hour or so after a deadline, if you drop into #create and poke me to let me know you're almost ready to post.

How to Enter

Want to enter this contest? Great! Even though Round 1 has finished, even if you didn't get a spot in the contest, you can still participate in the Chat Thread!

1. Download and install the lot, attached to the third post in this thread. Double-click the sims3pack, open the Launcher and make sure it's properly installed to your game.

2. Load up the game, and place the lot from the lot bin into your neighborhood, on any 30x30 lot. There's at least a few in Sunset Valley.

3. Build your lot. Remember the rules above - the footprint of the house you build has to stay the same as the foundation - no adding or removing any part of the foundation or changing the footprint by other means. Build it up and finish it like you would any lot - walls, furnishings, lights, plants, beds, paintings, etc., in any theme or style of your choosing.

4. Take the required pictures and up to three bonus pictures (listed above) to the best of your abilities. Don't Photoshop them too severely (if at all).

5. Upload the pictures to any image host - Tinypic (http://www.tinypic.com), Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com), Flickr (http://www.flickr.com), or Modyourpanties (http://www.modyourpanties.com:8080/).

6. Start a new reply post here on this thread - click Go Advanced, and you can just click the little "Insert Image" icon in the toolbar, or just copy-paste the image location into some [img] tags. Make sure you put all your required images.

7. Write a description for your lot. How much you write, what you write, and formatting is entirely up to you - you can write captions for each picture, or a blurb at the beginning, or both, or whatever, as long as there is some text to go along with your lot. Make sure to mention somewhere in the text whether or not you've used CC - and if you have, what items are CC and how many there are, in bold! This will make scoring a lot easier for the staff!

8. Submit your post - doing so will submit your entry. If you need to edit or make changes to your post, you may, up until the time limit for the round. After that, no changes may be made to your entry.

Chat Thread

If you won't be able to participate in all four rounds, didn't get a spot for round 1, or don't want to follow the rules exactly, or just want to build but not compete, or just want to chat about the entries, please post in our Chat Thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=412324)!

Good luck, and happy simming!`

Attached is a sims3pack containing Foundation #4, as well as a screenshot of that foundation. It is on a 30x30 lot (as all the foundations for this challenge will be) so it should be easy to place in your existing neighborhood.

Please note that the front of the lot is the bottom of the image shown - see the sidewalk and mailbox at the bottom of the image? When you place the lot in-game, make sure that side is the front! There will be a scoring penalty if you get the lot the wrong way 'round.

Round 4 ends on Friday, August 13th at 10:00 AM CEST!

Round 4 lasts for 1 week - you have 7 days to to build your lot and post your entry!

Check out this kickass trophy!

I don't know, sometimes I think little foundations like this may be more evil and hard to build on than the larger ones we've already had :).

Miniature Manor

Helloooo peopleee. This is my entry to Round 4. I decided to go in a completely different direction than my R1-3 entries.

This Castle-like home is said to be the oldest standing building in Riverview. Built by Alex Dia'Miago over 200 sim-years ago, this 2 bedroom/ 1 bathroom home is perfect for the small (Medieval) family. This home's last owner updated it with electricity and plumbing, but it has been empty for a long while. Teenagers sometimes visit to vandalize or push trashcans over, or maybe even venture inside.

At night, the place is lit up by the lights that have been tinted green from age.

Just for clarification, we were allowed to change the foundation to deck as long as it stays the same?

I even went as far as to replace a part of the foundation with just floating tiles and replaced the foundation walls with a low hedge. I might have gone a bit too far, not sure my work is allowed. But replacing the foundation with a deck is definately allowed, was said during R1 I believe.

Once upon time, a man, poor by birth, decided to make his living chopping timber and selling it to merchants. His wife had died during childbirth and he needed to provide for his young daughter. The first year went well. His profits were increasing and the demand for more lumber was also on the rise as the city expanded.

Unfortunately for the woodcutter, the Queen was a spiteful woman. She had seen the woodcutter's daughter about town, a carefree, good spirit that everyone loved. The Queen had charges brought against the woodcutter for disbursing her timber without proper authorization. Punishment: banishment to a small plot of land in the middle of the forest he stole from, never to be allowed to venture out again. The same went for any offspring, meaning his daughter. The Queen had felled two spruces with one chop.

Years later, the daughter is still living out the punishment inflicted upon her family. The carefree girl has grown into a loner; forced to grow her own food and survive on the company of the wildlife and, occasionally the mail boy. Her cottage has been overrun with flowers. Her favorite spot is the small island in the middle of the pond; perfect for a nap or just quiet contemplation if a prince will ever come to rescue her from her gilded cage.

Lovely entries so far!

Heaven_sent, beautiful house! Amazing landscaping. It's supposed to be from centuries ago, right? That's why there's no electronics anywhere in the home? Very cool. The punishment certainly won't seem so bad nowadays if the house has high-speed internet access and cable TV! Why with WiFi the daughter can even surf right there from her favorite spot (with iPad?) :D

Oh, I just noticed just one bedroom with a double bed. So the farmer sleeps with the daughter? Ewwww!

Thank you. It's more of a modern fairy tale. She still has electronics but can't go anywhere to meet anyone so she is left to virtual reality. No TV, just a computer though. Maybe I should get rid of that and replace it with something...not sure what though. And no, the farmer has since moved on...to the spirit realm. This is about the closest I've found for a cross. It might be recolorable, so you can make it fully silver, but I don't know. http://annihilationcc.blogspot.com/2010/01/druscillas-accessories-second-edition.html#more

Heaven_sent, if you want to go with 'bygone age' theme and not have electronics in the house, now with Ambitions there are music boxes that seem to generate more fun than anything else. Would be perfect in your house as music boxes have existed in older times. I've done away with TVs for my poorer sims as music boxes are so much better for a fraction of the price! Probably will be adjusted in the next patch though...

His poor heart broke as his daughter grew older alone with no chance at true love, even though she is a hopeless romantic.

Oh come on, if she has internet she'll have plenty of chance for love. Haven't she heard of online dating service?

This is my lot for the R4 :)

The Tominsons have always loved their house. Now they are taking part in a Beautiful house-contest.

Lady Tominson has spend a lot of time in their garden, to make sure it looks stunning to the judges. The little gazebo has been washed sparkling clean, and the paths have been raked clean of all the leaves and fallen flowers. The pond has also been checked for dead plants, and all is now as it should be. The car has been washed as well, so have the bikes. All lamppost have been changed to have new shiny lightbulbs.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Streetview-2.jpg?t=1281079737
http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Backsidegarden.jpg?t=1281079773

Interior of the house has been cleaned as well. The diningroom has got some new curtains, and a rug.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Diningroom.jpg?t=1281079737

The kitchen walls have been washed so well they shine. All the counters are new, and the fridge has been emptied of old food.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Kitchen-2.jpg?t=1281079737

In the livingroom the fireplace has been emptied of old ashes. Extra books have been taken off the bookshelves. Couches have new fabrics.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Livingroom-2.jpg?t=1281079737

The bathroom and hall have also been squeaked clean. All in all the first floor is at very tidy condition.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Firstfloor.jpg?t=1281079737

At the secondfloor have been done some changes. The little girls bedroom, the nursery, has got some new wallpaper, and a computer desk that didn't fit anywhere else in the house. The father Tominson is happy though, now he can sit at chat while looking after their daughter.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Nursery.jpg?t=1281079737

Masterbedroom has been separated from the originally huge room to provide some peace. Also the noise from the tv doesn't bother the people trying to sleep as much as it used to. All the curtains ad wallpapers are new. An old lounge chair has been renewed, and lady Tominson loves to sit in it reading novels.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Masterbedroomandtv-room.jpg?t=1281079737
http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Secondfloor.jpg?t=1281079737

They also had a helicopter fly over the house, to take an airview shot of the house. They plan on putting it to a frame and placing it to the livingroom to replace the picture of an ancestor.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Roof-1.jpg?t=1281079737

The Tominsons expect that the judges will like their house, and have hopes for a pretty ribbon. If they do not win the Beautiful house-contest, at least they'll have a clean house to enjoy for some days.

That's my little story for this round, I hope you liked it :)

Here is the foundation shot to prove that the foundation was not changed/modified. In case you wonder, the gazebo has been done by raising the terrain, it does not stand on a foundation/elevated wall.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/FoundationGazeboandbikeshelter.jpg?t=1281079737

I used items from Basegame, WA and Ambitions. No CC or Storecontent were used.

Thanks for HP for hosting this amazingly fun contest, /me huggles HP. Thanks for everyone who commented on the house. Special thanks for lewjen for some ideas that made the house so pretty :D

My "quick build before going on vacation" entry!

:here: 2BR, 1 1/2BA, Living room, Kitchen, Washing room, Porch, Huge Garden, Ponds - No CC used

This little country cottage is now for sale and is for those who want to convert to a more healthy and slow paced lifestyle. It has of course electricity and all the modern conveniences.

Teapot Cottage used to be owned by an unknown farmer in the older days. He was said to reside here after tragically losing his family for mourning and peace. In memory of them he planted a magnolia tree behind the shed for his wife to watch over the garden and placed gnomes which his son loved, to do some mischief. The house is now restored and up to standards so some easy maintenance will do.

In the big garden there is already a patch of grown vegetables and there is plenty more space available if needed to expand. The shed has a wine making machine and there are also barrels that can be used for storing it.

This is my Round 4 entry which uses NO CC.

St Mary's Mount stands just off the beach a little south of Twinbrook. Several decades ago it was a flourishing chapel, serving the families of local fishermen - baptising their babies, marrying their couples and buring their dead.
Now that the fishing industry has albut disappeared in these waters the chapel fell into disuse and disrepair and was bought by local Artist and keen fisherman Jed Worthington. Being a loner he loves the seclusion of the former chapel and the fact that it is cut off from the mainland for 10 out of every 12 months by the tides is an added bonus.
Living space is very limited and the luxury of a separate bedroom had to be relinquished in favour of a bed behind a curtain but at least that way he benefits from the large open fire on cold winter nights. He considered opening up a space in the rafters to make a small area for a bed but soon discovered a colony of rare bats (similus darkius) had already taken up residence and local conservation laws prohibited him from disturbing them.

Fantastic lot Mia! Really well done!
I love the atmosphere of the place. If only one things stands out to me though that could be improved upon it would be the ceilings. I just feel they should be wooden rather than the flat white to better fit with the feel of the property.
Either way, there is no way my entry is going to stand up to this. Or any of the other entries for that matter.

Evermore Cottage
Located in the woodlands not far from Simalot Castle lies the quaint Evermore Cottage, owned by Lord Builds-Madly and his fiance Lady Sims-Much. After a number of years adventuring in far away lands at the behest of the King of Simalot they decided to retire with the modest hoard of gold they had acquired to this little cottage.

As his father was before him, Lord Builds-Madly is an accomplished carpenter and builder so he wanted to find a place out in the woodlands where he could ply his trade and build a family. Thus he and his fiance decided to purchase Evermore Cottage, a small rural abode set out amongst the trees with enough space for the Lord to build a stable and barn and for the pair to settle down and start a family.

Note - To aid the judges (and make sure I don't get accidentally disqualified :) ) this last Floor Plan shows the foundation with a transparent overlay to show the areas I changed to deck and have obscured in places with rocks / trees / other objects to give the illusion that they aren't there. I did not change the foot print of the foundation but I wanted to mask a few spots a few spots that looked silly left as porch / deck areas.

No CC used!
None at all, some free store objects used such as plants from the Earth Day set, Ivy from the Toyota / Renault Eco pack, wheelbarrow from the Harvest Bounty set and a few items from the Riverview town download.

Side Notes
As mentioned in the note above (see floor plan pics) I have obscured a couple of foundation areas with various buy / build objects in order to get the particular structural look I was going for, normally I'd just remove the foundation but since we can't do that I figured hiding it under huge objects was the next best thing :D.

Also for those wondering the chimney does smoke when the fireplace is lit, though the chimney itself is fake (because EA's chimneys are ugly and can't be recoloured)! It's a 1x1 box built from the roof level up with the top of the original chimney to provide the smoke effects (required some CFE and MoveObjects to get placement right), and the chimney running up the outside wall is also fake! It's really just a few carefully textured and placed Buy Mode objects to give the wall an illusion of chimney :).

Wow, only a few houses shown so far and already it is very clear this is gonna be one hell of a finish! Awesome work so far guys!
I don't know what it is about this foundation, but so far it seems it screams "old times" to a lot of us. I'm working on a two houses and the one I like best so far is also an old one. I still have a whole lot to do though, but the house itself is almost done. :)

I'm actually done my house (and it's MODERN, for a change in my style), but I'm going to keep it underwraps until I'm convinced it doesn't need tweaking.

A Place with a Garden

http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll172/porkypine_album/A-place-with-a-garden.jpg

We've been looking for just the right place to raise a child. Somewhat open, with lots of fenced yard space for kids to play in and a garden. We only need 2 bedrooms right now but hope the place we find has enough room for expansion later, if needed.

We found this adorable little place! It has a mature garden in the back corner with lots of fruit trees and a pretty pond on the living and dining room side of the house with it's own little fairy watching the fish in the pond. We like that the pond side is fenced off from the play area so we don't have to worry about Mariska toddling off into the pond. Not a bad place for just 73,976 Simoleons!

There is ONE CC ITEM! - the little fairy statue.

The wizard house- home of Septimus Prince, cousin to Severus Snape.

Once upon a time there was a little papergirl named Susie. She was visiting her grandmother on the countryside. Her grandmother warned her from going too deep into the forest,” It´s haunted. Rumor says it was once a ritual place for druids. Ancient magic still have left it´s mark there. People have been lost in the forest, never to be seen again.”

One day when Susie was picking berries in the forest, she found an old overgrown path. Even thou she still heard her grandma´s warning echoing in her head, her curiosity overwhelmed her. She followed the path deeper and deeper into the forest. She felt like she no longer controlled her feet.

Susie had walked for hours almost like in trance, when she finally saw a little old house. She decided to knock on the door to ask for help. A man in weird clothes and piercing black eyes opened the door.

The last words Susie ever heard was, “Hm, a muggler. And I was just out of mugglermarrow to my potion. What a coincidence.”
The end.

Susie was walking to the front door.

I nearly used that very statue because I thought it came with the game. Further research shows that it did come with a game, Sims 2! So very beautiful, though. Shame EA didn't include it in Sims 3.

Thanks Kaospilot, Russel Brand is hot! I was actually making the character a long time ago as Severus, the way I picture him in my head before the movies. It is funny you think he is looking like Russel Brand because in my head Sirius Black is looking like him and I have tried and failed to make him look like him.

This is the TS3 version of the Stormy Bay Lighthouse I built long time ago for TS2.

It's fully furnished but pretty basic, even if nothing is missing in this loooovely nest.
Designed for a single sim or for a couple.

Tina, my testing sim, lives here fishing and writing novels.
She abandoned the running all over the hood searching gems or whatever, the job and carrier, competition and all that jazz and decided to get a more relaxing and nicer rythm.
Her days are generally quiet except for when friends come to take a sunbath or for a couple of hours of fishing in good company, while her nights are full of rumba and samba, the bbq is hot and friends dance and chat all night long ...
"Today is today, she says, you never know when Cylons will arrive huh? so what? let's drink and have good time."

The Gatehouse

http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/front.jpg

New on the market Sunset Realty presents this bijoux property steeped in history. The only surviving part of Sunset Valley Castle is the Gatehouse. Not only does it have a place in the history books, it contains some of the original furnishings from the castle and it also has fantastic views of the castle ruins. Originally sims would have passed through the arch to cross the drawbridge across to the castle.
The Gatehouse is decorated with antiques and the rooms reflect this style. It contains a cosy bedroom, lounge, a quaint kitchen and dressing/study area upstairs.
Beside the Gatehouse are the original Medieval style gardens, beautifully fragranced boasting a selection of roses and lavender.

(Translation;
bijoux = tiny
a place in the history books = scene of many bloody battles
views of the castle ruins = inaccessible and highly dangerous
original furnishings = 800 years of moths later
reflect this style = very old fashioned
cosy = no room to swing a cat
quaint = not been decorated in many years
medieval gardens = need to hire gardener or sacrifice your life maintaining them.)

Francine Watergate was born into a wealthy family living in Sunset Valley. Her parents gave her everything she could ever want during her childhood, but as she got older they realized they'd never be able to give her the one thing she wanted more than anything - a handsome prince. She was just too cruel. To top it off she was completely insane! She was convinced that if she had a castle, her handsome prince would come rescue her someday. So her parents gave her that one last wish. Francine changed her name to Princess Anna Banana, and off she went
(along with a servant) up to Fireheart Castle. As the years went by, she waited and waited, but no one came. As the fires in her loi....er, I mean heart grew stronger, so did the magic in this castle. One day she noticed flames spouting from the water!

Ten years later, Princess Anna Banana passed on from old age. The fires continue to burn to this day, and some say the castle is haunted by Princess Anna Banana, who is still waiting for her prince.

There are many rumors circulating about the princess, but the most disturbing ones are about the way she treated her servants. Cruel would be a kind word for it! Word is, she kept the remains of the previous servant on display in the current servant's bedroom. Hey, she's lucky she even got a bed, so
maybe she should count her blessings before she is made to sleep in the leaky boat outside!

Please excuse the quality of the photographs, as they are quite old. Yes, that is Princess Anna Banana herself you see in some of them! Too bad about her mental state, because she is quite lovely. She was always convinced she'd make beautiful babies, so she built a nursery in one of the towers for her future little princess. She was to name her Rapunzel, and she would never leave the tower!

Okay, so what kind of half-cracked robber walks into a house, right past the car, the television, the radio and the computer... to steal a bathtub???

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-23.jpg

This was the question Contest was pondering as he moved into the newest house in Sunset Valley, right next door. This one was a change from his previous occupancies - a small, modern abode covered almost wall to wall in windows. He would certainly save a lot on his electric bill.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-26.jpg

The attached garage, much to Contest's delight, already housed a snazzy sports car - AND he could watch it while he ate his dinner in the kitchen.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-28.jpghttp://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-29.jpg

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-25.jpg

Upstairs, Contest had a new loft-style bedroom, overlooking... well, everything. He could see his pond and his mountains out the back, his neighbours out the side and his yard out front. Yeah, robbers, try sneaking in NOW...

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-35.jpg

His bathroom was equally open to public scrutiny, but Contest didn't mind. After such an exhausting couple of days, it would be good to relax in a hot bath despite the neighbours' disapproval.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-34.jpghttp://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-33.jpg

Well, maybe this wouldn't be such a bad place to settle down, Contest mused as he jumped onto his long-coveted treadmill. Plus, the pointy fencing might actually deter unwanted visitors!

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-27.jpg

And indeed, as the day drew to a close yet again, Contest was STILL in the same house. Maybe the SimGods were truly smiling upon him now.

I'm not sure which expansion they came with, but it's a Buy Mode item and (don't laugh.. ) a roof decoration . Should be under Decorations and Roof Decorations, there's a Dragon, a cross logs thing, air vent duck and a weather vane thingy too in there I think :).

Gail.wyness, wow, I for the life of me would've never thought of combining bookcases with counters. The end result looks great too! A very attractive little cottage. Marvelous landscaping as well! Wouldn't everyone wants to retire to such house someday.... Of course with a Bugatti Veyron or Rolls Royce Ghost in the driveway instead of an old Volvo... :D

Who says you can't have a luxurious house without it being huge? On the ground floor you have a comfortable living room in soothing colors, along with a full bath including the washer and dryer. There is also a bedroom.

The entire second floor contains the kitchen and dining areas with a small little breakfast nook.

And finally on the third floor is the master bedroom and master bathroom.

If there is one thing I have learned over the years when it comes to working on the computer is to save after every single important thing I do, even though the saving is annoyingly slow in this game. As you can see in the chat thread I almost lost some progress thanks to a random fire, it reminded me to save even more often than I already do. Luckily only a rug was lost and I gained a small story. :)

I feel your pain Menaceman :( I'm terrible at remembering to save often enough and lost count of the times I lost hours of work. Its so damn frustrating! I downloaded Twallan's "Saver' so that the game automatically saves every half hour (thats what I set mine to anyway!) so now the most I lose is a half hours work which isnt so bad!

These are the non-rounded averages, since there's been some confusion over why the numbers don't -quite- add up previously - I mainly rounded for display purposes, as that list is ugly enough as it is, but I'm sure ya'll can sort it out.

Future contests will hopefully have a lovely system for them to eliminate a lot of the getting comments/scores complications. Yay!

Top 3 scores for this round are:

82.5 - Fyendiar
82 - missroxor
78 - Armiel, Gail.wyness

Congrats to everyone on your fantastic entries, no matter your scores. You all have done a great job! :)

As before, everyone has comments - somewhat less this time (I think our poor judges are getting worn out!) but you all have at least one. PM me for them, please.

confused_claire - It seems Photobucket deleted your pics, so I don't have scores for you. If you want to repost them in the chat thread and then PM me the link to the post (in the bar that says the time posted, like "Today, 10:30 PM" above the username, look to the far right - there's a little # - right-click it and copy-paste its link to link directly to just your post). I can get the judges to score your entry - that way, you won't be penalized for Photobucket eating your pics.

I thought I might give it a try to write a story for the lot. There is no CC, I hope it's ok to let a Sim take some pictures to use.

Sam and Julie met at a crowded café, when Julie tripped and spilled her icy cold slush all over Sam. Julie's attempts to help him clean it up only made it worse, so she ripped off his shirt, right in front of everyone staring at them and promised to wash it for him. It all happened so fast that he didn't have time to say anything, so he just went home with her to get his shirt. While waiting for it to get washed and dried they started talking and realised they enjoyed each others company.

They decided to meet again and a few months later they were engaged. After a small wedding they moved to an apartment in the city and Sam worked hard to give Julie everything money could buy, because he was so happy to have her. He didn't listen when she told him he didn't have to work so hard, she could get a job too as soon as she found one.

After a while Julie started to worry about Sam, he was stressed and overworked. He noticed a saddness in her eyes and worked even harder to give her something that would make her happy, but nothing did so one day he asked her. "What do want Julie? I'll give you anything." She looked at him and answered. "All I want is you, and a garden where we don't have to listen to the constant street noises, only hear the humming of fuzzy bumblebees and the birds singing. I want flowers and trees, a place to call home, not expensive clothes and jewlery or nightlife in a city that never sleeps." Sam could hardly belive what she just said. All this time he thought she enjoyed living in the city with all the things to do there, when she really wanted the same thing he wanted, a peaceful life close to nature.

They sold everything they had and bought a small piece of land with some big trees on it where they built a home for themselves. It was tiny, but they both loved it. Their happiness was complete when they had a daugther, but it didn't last long. A few months after Norelle was born Julie got sick. There was nothing they could do for her at the hospital so she asked Sam to take her home and let her spend her last few days in the garden.

Julie now lies in the shade of the weeping willow and when Norelle, who was too young to remember her mother asks about her, Sam tells her that she has turned into a butterfly and if she listens closely she can hear her whisper in the wind.

Your score was quite surprising, considering just how inventive it was. I don't see why it wasn't higher. Still, it is a relatively high score and I think your lot was fabulous and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I was rather surprised at the score as well, a 5 for structure is not something I would have given. The "omg why didn't I think of that" that I shouted out when I saw your house made it worth more than that to me. Still a decent score though and even if the score was lower I still consider that house brilliant. :)

Every round I just hope my score is better than the one before, and so far every one has gone up! Not super high, but I'm happy. My landscaping skills are definitely improving because of this contest. I never used to do any kind of yard work on my lots. I hope I can join more contests, I really like this. I have something to work for and my skills improve!

Thank you to both of you. I pretty much know that the 5 is probably because of the lack of the use of the actual foundation. And I agree with you misspsy: my landscaping skills have definitely improved! I know that my personal homes will definitely improve from what I have learned from this contest. Also, there are so many houses that I am hoping get uploaded so I can have in my game!

gabrielorie: 2 more days

Hey, 2 days left instead of 6 or 7 this time, hope I did ok!

This house I didn't even both to name (As I'm terrible with naming things) :| The outside isn't a plain siding this time, has those little corner things though the inside isn't that great (as I went on a budget this time and I went a bit over too -_-')

The house is worth around 20,600 furnished and holds 1 person, yes, 1. Most objects are at it's most cheapest/basic, but I think it was the lot itself (and the hedges) that rose the price.

Again this house has a browner tone in most places (idk why I like it). Has the occasional gray and white also. I also overdid the terrain, but the default in the area was a dryer (I was using Niua Simoa base game).......... anyways, onward to pictures!

Here's my entry for Foundation 4 contest:

Grandma's Blue Cottage

For most of the town's residents, Grandma Jones and her little blue cottage seem to have been part of the town forever. Grandma knows better, of course. In fact the cottage was built by her late sculptor husband Paulie as their retirement home when all their kids have grown up and moved out. Of course even that was a long time ago. Grandma Jones is very old, you see, well over one hundred years old, easily the oldest person in town. In fact, she has outlived all of her children, and grandchildren! Sadly, none of her offspring seem to have been blessed with her long life.

Grandma Jones now lived alone in her little cottage. Townies come by once a day to check on her and help her with errands, but Grandma Jones is still in good health. She still gardens in her small backyard garden, and she still fishes occasionally in the pond behind her home. Her husband is an avid fisherman, in fact he chooses this lot to build the cottage because of the pond. She took up the hobby when her husband passed away.

Grandma Jones now lives happily in her little cottage, enjoying her blessing of long and good life, and waiting for the time she will finally meet her husband Paulie again, and all her children, and grandchildren...

The View from the Street
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx177/GallusGallusDomesticus/BlueChimneystreeteyelevel.jpg
The car out front belongs to her husband Paulie. Grandma Jones can't drive anymore, she lost her license right about the time she turned one hundred. Even if she still have it, with her failing eyesight she would be a menace on the road! But she had a local teenage boy, Alvin, keep it in tip-top shape, in exchange of his occasional use. She has promised him he can have the car when she's gone, so that's an excellent motivation for the boy to take care of the car! The boy's an avid surfer, the surf board sticking out the back is his.

Living Room
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx177/GallusGallusDomesticus/BlueChimneylivingroom.jpg

This is where Grandma likes to relax, watch TV, reading, or just listening to that old gramophone.

Kitchen/Dining
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx177/GallusGallusDomesticus/BlueChimneykitchendining.jpg
Grandma's other passion besides gardening is cooking. Nothing like cooking using all the fresh and high quality produces from her garden and lovely, plump fishes from her pond! The kitchen is quite large in such a small cottage because of this. One reason why townies keep appearing at her doorstep to help her with small errands is because they can then enjoy Grandma's delicious cookings!

Bedroom
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx177/GallusGallusDomesticus/Screenshot-292.jpg
The cottage has just one bedroom, and it's a small one. The 'tower' right on top of it gives it a spacious and airy feeling despite of its small size.

This is a helicopter, or high-resolution satellite, view of Grandma's cottage, showing her lovely garden, pond, and little garden shed. The garden shed houses the washing machine and some logs for her fireplace. The pond is stocked with delicious fishes just waiting for Grandma's expert hand at catching and preparing them.

Layout: Upper Floor
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx177/GallusGallusDomesticus/BlueChimneylayoutupperfloor-1.jpg
The top floor houses the fireplace and a small reading area, the cottage's only bathroom, and the bedroom. You can also see the cottage's L-stairs clearly here.

Layout: Ground Floor
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx177/GallusGallusDomesticus/BlueChimneylayoutfirstfloor-1.jpg
The ground floor has a sitting room with TV and gramophone, kitchen and dining room, and Paulie's sculpting equipment, which has sat unused ever since he died.

Bonus Pictures

Side View

From this side of the cottage you can see the pond with its small fountain more clearly, and the cottage's little tower.

As you enter through the cottage's front door, you can immediately see the L-stairs, the walkway connecting the reading area and bathroom on one side of the upper level to the bedroom on the other side, and Paulie's sculpting station.

Thank you!

I've actually created a Grandma Jones character for this house. Is there a way to assign skills and stuff to sims without actually having to play it? I mean, certainly a person that old would've had some skills already! Most notably gardening, fishing & cooking skills! I know in Sims 2 we have to use outside tools to do this (made by Delphy, I think), is there a similar tool available for Sims 3?

I know that I'd love to have a Grandma Jones there for when I download the house (you will be uploading it, right? I'd love to play it), but I don't know of anything to boost their skills. I'm not one to make Sims for others' use.

Thanks Fragglerocks! Twallan's master controller (replacement for super computer) looks like the tools I wanted! I will definitely give it a try. Hopefully it won't mess up my game! :D

I will upload this house with Grandma Jones in it when the contest is over.

Aww, HP showed the low-poly version of the trophy, here's a better pic:

Also, it gives you a "beautifully decorated" moodlet.
Good luck everybody! :)

I've never tried Twallan's master controller so don't know what it does but I can thoroughly recommend Treeag's book of talent: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=383662 It lets you set any skill to any level instantly, all you have to do is buy the book of talent from buy mode and click on it with the selected sim :)

Valley Construction has added a new home to their catalog, The Solena and is holding the first open house for this small, but well appointed home.

This 2 bedroom, 1 bath home features a detached garage that accommodates 2 cars and extra space for the storage of your lawn equipment. The exterior of the home features numerous surprises, to start, a beautiful handcrafted fountain surrounded by cute cherubs in the front yard as well as a small old fashioned water pump slightly hidden beneath full grown trees. In the back yard, not only is there a relaxing BBQ area with a table and lounge chairs, but also a pergola covered swing and secluded bench in each of the back corners of the lot. As you can see the house has covered porches on the front and back. The living room might be small, but it provides a nice spot to read those skill books you bought. The kitchen and dining area has an open inclusive feel and tucked in an alcove created by the custom staircase is a drafting table for the budding architect or fashionista. The second floor contain the bath with upgraded tile and fixtures along with the 2 bedrooms.

With quality like this why not place your order today for the newest addition to the Valley Construction catalog. It is guaranteed to feel like home from day one.

Excellent color scheme inside and out, Sookielee! Just a very pleasing combination that involves a variety of different colors (red, green yellow, brown), not just one or two... You definitely have the eyes for color. If I started to mix and match more than two colors, the result is often rather eye-watering! :P

TheNubbyPeanut's house from last page also have a very pleasing color combination, especially inside.

Time for my final entry. Thanks for the great fun guys, I have learned so much from this contest! I've seen great houses, some brilliantly build, others with awesome imagination and yet others that had both! So thanks HP for running this contest and the judges for their insanely difficult task and ofcourse all the contestants. It's been (and still is) great fun!

Anywho without further ado here is my final entry, goodluck everyone!

Hansel and Gretel, the true story!

Once upon a time there was a nice little old lady that lived at the edge of the woods. At least that is how the story of Hansel and Gretel should have started. We have all heard the story of the poor children that got cast out by their parents, left deep in the forest to rot. What we don't know however is why their parents came to such an evil deed or what turned that nice little old lady into the nasty hag we all love to hate. It's that poor old woman that was the first outside the parents to find out first hand that they had good cause for doing what they did!

However before I tell you the story you have to see for yourself how the little cottage looked back in those days. The following pictures were taken by John Ferdinand Gropel last week as he took yet another trip in his brandnew timemachine. Thanks John for giving some extra color to this story, it is much appreciated!

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2347/backgu.jpg
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7753/waterfally.jpg

As you can see it was not the house made of food we were told about, but just a nice little old cottage in the woods. It is clear that the old woman loved her house and garden. I like how you captured that waterfall John!

Time to get back to the story however.

Ever since Hansel and Gretel were born the life of their parents had turned into a nightmare. You may think that I am exaggerating here, but you would be dead wrong in thinking that. The children were born under a cold moon in december and soon after it was clear that their hearts were as cold as the water outside. "Their eyes! There is no soul in their eyes!", the poor father shouted in a drunken haze. A state people found him in more and more often after the children were born. When asked what was wrong he just kept repeating those words over and over again untill he lost his bearings in the ale. Nobody knew why a father could say such terrible things about his own children. Nobody knew...except his wife.

What exactly happened to Hansel and Gretel's parents is unknown still. Sadly John didn't manage to find the parents able to tell the story. He did however see first hand what happened to the little old lady in the forest and it shook him up in a terrible fashion. I hope to hear the full story once he gets out of the mental institution he got admitted into shortly after his trip. The inability to help the old woman seemingly did him in!

I did manage to find some pictures he shot from the happenings in the cottage however and it shows how close John came to the actual events! If only timetravel let him intervene! I will show you the pictures now, sadly without a story to go with them since John is still unable to utter more than some incomprehensible words. I have placed them in the order they were taken though and can only imagine the story behind them. One thing is clear though, just by looking at Gretel's eyes: their father was correct when he stated the words: "Their eyes! There is no soul in their eyes!"...

Wow guys, thanks for the compliments! I tend to get lost in the details so much while making the houses that I tend to see the flaws more than anything else. It's good to see that you guys love it. :)

Btw it may seem like I added to the foundation underneath those ehm..windows that stick out (heck how do you call those in english?), but that's done with 2 dressers with the back turned, 4 dressers at the base of the chimney which can't be seen on the pictures. Those dressers under the windows make it possible to add plants and such to it without using a mod (sims want to enjoy watching those plants though and can't reach them which gives an annoying amount of sims tantrems the first few days they live there.
Oh and that small waterfall used 11 or so fog emitters since the real waterfall effects they give are too big so every stream down is 1 emiter and 1 for the splashing effect at the bottom. Butterflies all around, fishing at multiple spots, an extra colorfull garden at night (kinda like with Villa de la Morte, but less creepy) which I decided not to show now because the building has a dark texture so wouldn't be clear enough in the pictures and didn't want half the outside pictures in the dark and half in the light.
Oh yeah the fireflies come out at night and speaking of fires....same as with previous houses there is a fire alarm in the kitchen, but it is hidden since it doesn't fit the old theme. As you can see in the chat thread it ain't an unneeded luxury with a fireplace part of the kitchen. :)

Okay I will stop talking now, thanks again for the compliments guys! :)

I think they were called bay windows. So the plants are actually sort of outside and just sticks through the bay windows? Very creative indeed! I was wondering about the waterfall also, as I didn't think there were waterfalls that small!

I will be uploading the houses from R2-4, not the one from R1 since that one is nothing special tbh. A word of warning though; especially Villa de la Morte and to a lesser extend the other two...they are a strain on your computer. All the plants and with the villa also the fog effects make it a tough one for slower computers. I have never uploaded anything to this site so I will have to figure out how to, been putting it off since I got the result from R2, but to put it in WoW's terms: I will do it soon (http://www.wowwiki.com/Soon)™. :jest:

Seperate posts, I already got a reply on Villa de la Morte and had to make some changes. It's again in the queue to be checked. The same thing is most likely going to happen for the other 2 houses since I kinda made the same mistakes there, but I will wait and see. :)

Hello, I'm Antoine Germain and his is my house.
Many years ago this region was very prosper thanks to the trade of olive oil and this house was one of the biggest mas of the village. However, 60 years ago a fire destroyed all the trees and a lot of the houses of the village.
My grandfather succeeded in rescuing one of our oldest olive trees, but with only one tree left the villagers couldn’t make olive oil anymore. So, not to let the village die like their forest, the people started to make nectar instead.
This mas has been constructed on the foundation of the warehouse that my grandfather restored.

Even if it’s small, it has everything you need. Two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, kitchen, living room and a warehouse where I still make nectar. There’s NO CC

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Llihnae/Fondation%204/Screenshot-109.jpg?t=1281763255

Let's take a look at the house.
This is the foundation level with the warehouse

This is the ground floor with the kitchen, living room and the loo. I know that's very small but it's functional.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Llihnae/Fondation%204/F1.jpg?t=1281763255

Here is the first floor with the two bedrooms and bathrooms. With such a small house there's not much that can fit in this palce.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Llihnae/Fondation%204/Screenshot-90-1.jpg?t=1281763255

Here we have a full view of the garden with it's pond and pool. This pool is a real luxury because in this region it doesn't rain a lot but that's exactly the climat tom make the best nectar.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Llihnae/Fondation%204/Screenshot-89-1.jpg?t=1281763255

This is the living room with stone walls and floor. The furniture is made out of wood to add a hearty feeling.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Llihnae/Fondation%204/Screenshot-114.jpg?t=1281763255

This is the kitchen, the biggest room in the house. Here again we have stone and wood to stay in the style of this region.

http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Llihnae/Fondation%204/Screenshot-122.jpg?t=1281763255

Here is the master bedroom. Everythisng is in light colors, so the room looks bigger.

Finaly a view of the garden and it's many flowers. Because we always have a beautiful weather we spend most of our time in the garden... because gardening takes half a day...

When you were a kid did you ever fall in love with something a little silly? Did you want to be a veterinarian, or a princess, or learn to fly? Did you love The Lion King, the color pink, or tigers? Most people outgrow their childhood loves, but I didn't. And I fell in love with a decade and I never outgrew it. The 1950's spoke to me. I loved the bright colors and simple designs. I knew from the time I was a small child that I wanted a 50's inspired home.

Sorry! I didn't mean to bug you with my chatter. I'm Penelope Baxter, but everyone calls me Penni. You wanted to cast an eyeball on my pad? No sweat, that would be crazy cool! My house is built on the foundations of a two story family house built in 1952. They had a few too many ankle-biters and needed a bigger place. Later the abandoned house became a hang out for punks, cubes, and other bad news. Somehow a fire got started in one of the upstairs bedrooms destroying the entire top floor and some of the bottom as well. That's how it stayed until I bought it.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity1.jpg
Isn't it neato now? I think it's the bees-knees myself. Me and my friends call it Fat City, no matter what you call it it's a great place to hang.

The living room is hip! Bright colors and lots of things to do. You can plop down to watch a flick or page through a great read. I've got a fish too, his name is Carl. There's also a dining area to refuel at and it's got enough room for two!
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity4.jpg

My kitchen is attached to the living room. It's out of sight! Really razzes my berries. The matching colors and hi-quality appliences make it the perfect place to whip up a slurg or two for you and your best girlfriends.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity5.jpg

My bedroom is one of my favorite places in the house. Covered in pink, I know, it's far out. The bed is so soft, it's the perfect place to nod off and pile up some Z's. The ceiling is covered in clouds too, how hep is that? I've also got a small study area to the side for reading and homework. Yes even a radioactive cat like me has to do homework. I love the big mirrors. They make the room look so much bigger and help me getting ready to be beautiful.
By the way, don't tell anyone about the teddy bear. Don't want people to think I'm a square.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity6.jpg

My garage is where I stable the horses, obviously. I also keep my bike inside and have all the tools for fixing it or the chariot. My set of wheels may look like a tank, but it's really a hopped up rocket. Built the engine myself, with some help from Denny. He's my beau. Sometimes we go out to the passion pit in my rod and play some back seat bingo. Not that you needed to know that.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity7.jpg

I love my garden. I learned to grow things from my aunt who raised me, she owns a farm. I grow all my own fruits and vegetables in that garden, and catch fish in my very own pond! My friends get a kick out of me growing my own food. I think it's pretty cool too. That bench under the big tree? Of that's where me and Denny sit sometimes, it's way romantic. He's so full of apple butter, makes me feel like a queen! We bash ears for hours out here, just the two of us.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity8.jpg

If there's one thing I love to do it's hang with my friends. That's why I installed the pool and built such a big patio area. My friends can come swim, have a drink, or just sit by the fire and gab all night long. The stereo pumps out sounds and we all dance and dance, chasing the gringles away.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity9.jpg

In this picture of the grounds you can eyeball the garden, the pond, the pool, the padio, and the garage where my storming machine sleeps.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity2.jpg

The floor plan shows the main room of the house which contains living room, kitchen, and dining area. You also get a good shot of my L shaped bedroom, including my study area. And of course there's the bathroom. Got to have one of those.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg15/Psy-H-A/The%20Sims%203/Contests/FatCity3.jpg

No CC was used in the making of this house whatever that means. No animals were harmed either.
If you couldn't exactly pick up on my smooth lingo you can check out this page: Slang of the 1950's (http://www.citrus.k12.fl.us/staffdev/social%20studies/pdf/slang%20of%20the%201950s.pdf)

I have learned a lot. For this foundation I learned how to do bridges.

So here is a simple cabin.
It is cheap, small and run-down but it's home.
The cabin is surrounded by a fishing/swimming hole.
It is meant to be a starter home for a single person.

R3 Comments

Hey guys, sorry about my slowness in sending out R3 comments. Real life sometimes gets in the way.

Not exactly standard, but... here is a spreadsheet with everyone's R3 comments. Just scroll down to your name and read across. Usually I send them privately but I've been super busy lately and I figure this way, at least you'll have 'em.

HP, I must ask if the comments might have gotten out of order or something? I have a comment about a cooky Dr Who theme and an impractical way of getting to the 2nd floor. My house does not have a second floor and I do not know what a dr who theme is.

Argh, sorry about that. Yes, they got out of order somehow in copypasta from Excel to Google Docs. I doublechecked and it should be fixed now - please refresh. My apologies - I'm having a dumbass day. Week. Whatever.

I promise I thought I had lost it there for a second. Thought I would share this, cause you probably could use a laugh.

gabrielorie - They're correct now - some spots may be blank if that judge didn't comment on your particular entry - the other judge who left comments commented on every entry. There's less this round as, like I said somewhere upthread, I think the judges were getting a bit weary of typing out comments on all the entries - it was always optional for them to do them.

Ahh the cooky Dr Who theme comments were meant for me :), the back story and sims pictured in my R3 lot were loosely based on older versions of the British Sci-Fi show / movies called "Dr Who".

Marble Beach~
This house is a lot more moderny then houses I usually build. It was pretty fun to build, even though it was DANG small and fitting the stairs in was a bit of a challenge. But here it is! Enjoy!
Long ago, this beach used to be a pirate cove. Since then though, the cove has been blocked off by fallen rock and just a few sandy tidepools remain. While this may not seem like the ideal location for a house. Someone, for whatever reason, built a beautiful modern resort here. It's now up for sale, still fully furnished with the sculptures the previous owner created for any sim who has enough money and doesn't mind being surrounded by pools of sharks all the time.
This house has one bedroom and one bathroom.

I think I've worked out the finish time to be 8:30 am in the UK!

I now second your request for a slight extension. It is currently 10:30 pm and I have to go to bed soon ready for work at 8:30 tomorrow morning! My house is nearly finished but I still have three rooms to furnish! I don't finish work tomorrow until 6 pm.

The house of family Beriksson

The Berikssons like the traditional Swedish architecture with lots of red and white wood, because it reminds them of their original home. When they moved to Riverview a few years ago, they didn't have much money and could only afford to build a small house.
But the beautiful garden made up for it.
The Berikssons live solely on their own produce from their garden - and the occasional fish. Finn, the head of the young family, comes from a family that has been in the fishing business for decades. He knows just about anything there is to know about fishing. He also loves his aquarium, in which he puts his most precious catches. His wife Anne is a devoted gardener and cook. Together, they care for their little twins, Erik and Marja, the best way they can.
Finn and Anne know that soon, they will have to think about an annex so that the twins could have their own rooms, but for now, the top floor has to be a shared bedroom.

After the war, sims had trouble finding homes because they were destroyed and taken over by others. They couldn't return and gather what was left either, but lucky for the Baker family, they found their new home. It was an old apartment that wasn't destroyed that bad but the Baker's rummaged for items to make it look better. Lucky for them, Heathcliff, the husband, is a carpenter. They fixed up most of the rooms but while on the look out for useful items, they had found a toddler named Topher just wandering the streets and decided to take care of him. There is much yard work still needed to be done. Here is their home after being fixed up.

Front. The front door was severely damaged so they created a side door and used it instead.

The Wagon and Horses Inn

Welcome to the Wagon and Horses Inn, a quaint little country pub in the tiny, historical village of Otley in Yorkshire. The Wagon, as it's known to it's patrons, is run by Claire Ramsey, great grand-daughter of the pub's founder, John Ramsey. It's been the local pub in Otley for as long as anyone can remember, in fact the majority of the building is still original tudor from the late 1500s. John Ramsey converted the lower half of the house to a public house in the early 1900s and almost a hundred years later when Claire inherited the pub she turned two of the upstairs bedrooms into rental accommodation adding the 'Inn' to the name.

KITCHEN
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/missroxor/MTS%20Contest_Foundations/R4_Kitchen.jpgThe kitchen is compact but that doesn't stop chef Pedro producing among the best bar meals in the county of Yorkshire.

LIVING ROOM/LOUNGE BAR
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/missroxor/MTS%20Contest_Foundations/R4_LivingRoom.jpgIn days gone by this would have been the living space for the family but when the lower half was converted this room was made into the lounge bar; a space where the more affluent customers could drink without having to mingle with the local rif-raf. Claire felt this was an outdated notion so she knocked down the dividing wall between the lounge and public bar and created a comfy space to watch sports on telly while having a beer.

BONUS #1 - PUBLIC BAR
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/missroxor/MTS%20Contest_Foundations/R4_Bonus_PublicBar.jpgThe Wagon prides itself on it's friendly atmosphere and mixed clientelle. You'll often see the local mechanic shootin' the breeze with the university lecturer who lives near the village or the banker's wife chatting to local farm hands.

BEDROOM
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/missroxor/MTS%20Contest_Foundations/R4_Bedroom.jpgThis is one of the bedroom's Claire rents out to travellers. Throughout the house Claire has kept as much of the original features and retro decor as possible, no matter how tatty or kitsch as she loves the Olde English countryside feel that she grew up with in the Wagon.

BONUS #2 - BEER GARDEN
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/missroxor/MTS%20Contest_Foundations/R4_Bonus_BeerGarden.jpg Throughout the summer months the beer garden is always full. Locals and travellers alike love to wile away the evenings by the fire pit telling stories and getting merry together while listening to the gentle trickle of the waterfall nearby.

BONUS #3 - BACK VIEW
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/missroxor/MTS%20Contest_Foundations/R4_Bonus_BackView.jpg

Chef Pedro swears that the secret to his mouth-watering dishes is fresh ingredients. That's why Claire was only too happy to let him build a kitchen garden to grow his own produce and herbs. Customers love it too, it's reassuring to see where exactly your food comes from...as long as it's a nice place! Out back there is also a small kiddie's play park, the Wagon is a family establishment afterall. No kids after 8pm but until then all are welcome.

Haha missroxxor, I bet you had to do some shots to get that public bar photo! Funnily enough, my local is called the Wagon and Horses Inn :)
Really great entry though. I love how the living room/lounge looks just like any pub. Such clever decorating. And that barn! Those "doors" look great. I was trying to come up with a barn for my entry but the doors seemed to ruin it all.

I love all the other entries I have seen so far too (can't keep me from browsing on my laptop even if I'm on holiday, lol) But I'll have to have a real proper look at all of them when I get back.

Thanks :) I was racking my brains for a name and started pestering my husband for ideas. Told him I was thinking of something with wagon since I had a wagon-y type thing out front. He googled it and apparently Coach and Horses or Wagon and Horses are really common pub names in the UK. I didn't believe him because I've never been to a pub called that (and I've been to a lot of pubs ;) ) but what are the chances of it being a local of another contestant?

Thanks for all the nice comments on my house!

The stairs were truly nerve-racking indeed, especially since this is my first house with split-stairs, but I really like how they turned out.

@LifesLover: I used the moveobjects cheat and it worked for me with the windows under the roof. It was actually more difficult to place the round window above the entrance, because most windows would just have solid wood in them instead of leaving a see-through hole. I placed it on the level of the half-floor, probably why most windows went all weird, being placed in-between floors :)

@Missroxor: beautiful house, really authentic and cozy, I really like it!

@kwuz really like your house, too, the water around the house looks really nice and you have a clever interior layout!

@ MissRoxxor There's definitely a Coach and Horses where I live too but our city is renowned for having an awful lot of pubs :Pint: - probably common in old pubs as goes back to the days when they were used as inns and had stables etc too. I went to Uni in Leeds so have visited Otley too a few times lol - pretty place. I will miss this contest but back to real life - I'm camping in Cornwall later next week with the kids :help:

MissRoxxor - Love the inn! Reminds me of my misspent youth or at least some of the old country pubs I frequented in England :D, great job on capturing the atmosphere and style!

Cloudburst - Great job with the cottage! As many know from my upload history I have a soft spot for that "gently used" style and I think you've done a great job with it here :).

Hrm, well, I tried with the moveobjects on cheat and it let me put them on, but they always poke through the roof, no matter where I put them. So, I guess my roof walls shall have to stay window-less, at least for now.

CC used on this lot. As for how many points I'll get deducted I'm not sure. The CC involved is the cornice decoration which in itself is one thing but it is actually made up of four seperate objects so I'll let the judges decide on that one.

I also ended up with those stupid floaty ceiling tiles on this lot like I did with my second round entry. I've not managed to get rid of them this time although thankfully they cannot be seen in the pictures.

Hey guys! I decided to try out a country theme for my lot and, you know, expiriment. ;) I kinda suck at these types of lots though. So excuse the suckiness. Ha.

:here: Blue Cheese Farm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, Blue Cheese Farm was originally just a run-down ol' house in a field, until Geoffrey Bean stumbled upon it when exploring the woods in Twinbrook early one morning. He contacted the farmer who owned the land, and negotiated a price. He built up the home using the original wood it was built from, trying to make it look as authentic as possible, and blend in with the woodland surroundings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

His family wasn't exactly thrilled to be moving to the middle of nowhere, but once they arrived they were overwhelmed by the beauty of the place.

We here at Garden Monthly Magazine have a treat for our readers. Our newest featured home is that of Riley Marie Nipter, a woman who lives out in the woods alone, surrounded by flowers, trees, and water.

Riley Marie Nipter is uncomfortable around people. She hates technology and she hates the indoors.

Riley Marie is a loner by nature, a one woman family who lives out in the middle of the woods, whose surrounding garden is bigger than her home, and she loves every moment of it.

When she decided to move to the middle of nowhere, she did it out of sheer desperation for nature. She had a small house built, put only the bare necessities in, and built up around it a garden that she could spend her days in, digging in the soil and curled up reading a book. She makes a living selling her produce, but she doesn't need much, eating from her garden.

She rarely goes inside her home, except to eat, sleep, and grab a book to read outside.

She has, however, graciously allowed cameras to come in and take some pictures of her home and garden, for an article in the Garden Month Magazine, the only magazine she allows in her home.

Street View
http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot.jpg

Here is an aerial view of her home and land, showing the pond and produce garden where she spends the majority of her time. She also has a little side area where she plays the occasional round of chest. When asked why she had a freshly cut up piled of logs, obviously useless since she has no fireplace, she hesitantly muttered that she just liked the smell.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-2.jpg

The second level of her home features the only bedroom and the connecting bathroom, with a small hallway leading to the stairs that go down.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-3.jpg

The first level of her home features a small kitchen, living room, a tiny powder room and a little nook for her dining room, which contains only one chair, since she doesn't like people and thus never has visitors.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-4.jpg

Unable to fully capture her entire bedroom, we did the best we could. She has plants all over. When we asked about it, she said that it makes her feel more comfortable, that she has a bit of the outdoors inside.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-8.jpg

Here is a picture of her small kitchen, which she rarely uses, since she doesn't like technology and her refrigerator and stove scare her.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-5.jpg

Her living room features three different bookcases, all full to bursting with all kinds of books, and only a sofa, in order to curl up and read a book. Of course, she has no television or other type of entertainment. Her books suit her well enough.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-7.jpg

However, the real gem of her home is her garden, the reason why she allowed us to take pictures.

Unfortunately, we were only able to take a few pictures of the outside before daylight escaped us and she grew increasingly uncomfortable with so many people in her home.

This is a view of her produce garden.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-9.jpg

And she allowed us to take a photo of her doing what she loves most, reading on a bench surrounded by her pond and the bridge that connects her front yard and side yard to the pond.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-12.jpg

The last photo we were able to take was another shot of her garden, looking out to her backyard.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss332/LifesLover/Contest%20Pics/Foundation%20Four/Screenshot-14.jpg

Those of us here at Garden Monthly Magazine give thanks to Riley Marie for allowing us to do this article and for taking pictures of her beautiful home.

Riley Marie's home contains no Custom Content, is worth around 64,000 simoleons furnished and features gentle colors of pink, green and blue.

Please feel free to give me any comments or advice on my house. While I may not be able to change it in time for the contest, since I finished pretty late, I would like to improve in later lots.

Alan_Gast, fantastic entry but there is one issue that I can see you will get docked points for; you placed the foundation the wrong way round. The curved wall should be to the right of the lot.

Victorian Beauty

The Victorian Beauty was built in the early 19th Century in a place with a very wet weather.
That condition makes it have a garden with a big natural pond, surrounded by willows, bulrushes and marsh grass. It also has elegant brick paths, an arbor with a wooden pergola and lots of vegetation.

The house is built in wood painted white and yellow, and the panels are different in every floor and in the tower.

It has two floors with one kitchen, one living room, one bathroom, one double bedroom and one single bedroom :)

I used NO custom or store content.

I hope you like it ^^

Before the thread gets locked and I can no longer post here I would like to say a very big thank you to HP, all of the judges and everyone else who took part in this contest!
It has really made me try new things when building lots and I believe that my landscaping, whilst still not awe inspiring, has improved a lot during this time. No longer am I afraid to bunch plants together in an actually natural looking way. Hopefully any future homes I may build will now have more character to them.
So, THANK YOU!
