View Full Version : Foundations inside a garage? (or cave) {solved}

I'm trying to build the building where I live in and for that (or at least for it to be as close to reality as possible) I would need to build foundations inside the underground garage (built using the cave tool). Yet the game won't let me (at least not the obvious way) so I was wondering if anyone out there knows some kind of trick that makes this possible.

It is sort of possible, you have to do a lot of advanced cfe and use half walls to join the lower floor to the upper one as basement walls cannot be shrunk so they would intersect with the floor above.

Essentially you can do it but you need to make one basement as normal and the create another floor below it that is only 3 clicks (4 steps or foundation height) lower than the first basement level)

How do I do that? With another basement below the first one? Or using the stairs trick to lower the floor?

edit: just tried the stairs trick (for the first time, woot!) to lower the floor 3 times and it still didn't let me build the foundation, maybe I'm missing something or doing something wrong? ^^''

Yes, another basement below the first, but the tricky part is having it the minimum distance below the first level you built. You can do this by raising the ground elsewhere and placing your two levels of basement then dragging the level across from there to raise up the floor of your lower basement.

You can do this by raising the ground elsewhere

a certain number of clicks, or any value will do?

you want to raise it by 9 clicks, it should be 12 steps if you place stairs back to the normal ground height

Ok, I'll have to try that tomorrow 'cause it's getting late here

I went in an university' observation stage today and I was thinking about this issue all the time xD

Let's see If I got this straight: I create a second cave below my first cave (on the place where I want the foundation to be) and then use the rised terrain to lower it up, so that the 2nd base gets above the 1st one, becoming the foundation itself.... or did you have something else in mind? I still think I'm missing something since you mentioned walls.

edit: never mind, after se-ve-ral tries I just managed to do it and I finally figured out what you meant by having to use half walls ;)
thank you so much for your help, that just made my day ^^

Glad I could help, sorry if explaining it is a bit tricky. I find it difficult enough working out most of the crazy cfe stuff never mind actually explaining it to another human being :D

I really don't thinks it's your fault. Since english is not my 1st language I always have to make sure I'm getting what the other person is trying to say and the fact that I had never done something like this was not helping :P
