I've tried everything

Okay, I know that you're not supposed to post asking for help, but I just now registered here to download mods for my game and I can't figure this out. I just have the basic Sims 3, no expansion packs. I downloaded everything I wanted, unzipped the files, etc...But I absolutely cannot get my mods to work in game. I'm really confused and frustrated. I've gone through the step by step instructions for .package stuff about a million time. It just won't work. Thanks for any help in advance.

Are you putting them in My Documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/Mods/Packages? And have you installed the resourse.cfg?

I'm putting them there, yeah. I'm not sure about the other thing. How do I know if I have?
Thank you for helping me. I know it's kind of a dumb question and I should be able to figure it out on my own, but sadly I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this stuff.

this should help.. scroll down and you will see a link that has the resource.cfg

After you get the resource.cfg you place it inside your mods folder.

I checked, and I do have that. I completely redid everything again, but it's still not working. Should I just give up?

Really should use the help forums at this point... if you are placing them in the right place, have the resource.cfg they should be working. Make sure before you post for help in the help forums you go through all the wiki/help pages about your problem http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3_Game_Help that way you can rule out user error or simple fixes.
