Featured upload! One More Slot Please! (with vertical shifting) [Update 2 Nov 2011]

This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
This is a featured upload! It showcases the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Updated for Patch 1.26 / Pets EP Will work with pre-pets patches as well.

Newshoes has created a tipsy add-on for the OMSP that is available in the thread Tipsy OMSP A great add-on to allow objects to lay over on their sides when placed on the OMSP. Very Cool Stuff(tm)!

Have you ever wanted to place an object somewhere in your house, and just couldn't make it fit?

What you need is an OMSP -- A One More Slot Package object

This allows you to place objects on the OMSP during buy mode. Then when you switch to play mode, the OMSP becomes invisible.

It appears in the Surfaces --> Misc.

To use the object, place it on the floor. It will appear as a red/white checkered object. Next, move it up/down using the menus.

To activate the menu hold Shift + Ctrl and Click on the object.

Next place the object of your choice on top of the OMSP. It helps to move the camera to where you are looking nearly straight down at the floor.

Now, you can move and rotate the OMSP to place the object where you want it to appear. Holding ALT down while dragging or rotating allows you to move it off of the grid.

Update Information
20 Dec 2010 -- Added non-English string tables
21 Dec 2010 -- Fixed corrupted strings
23 Jan 2011 -- Added French and German Translations

Note to translators.... This Mod uses fairly simple text entries. If you wish to contribute a translation, please feel free to PM me.

WARNING
There are several potential issues with this object.
1) Currently it cannot detect if you try to move it below the floor, or above the ceiling! If you do so, it will disappear from sight.
2) Large Kitchen appliances do not work on the OMSP. They fall back to floor level as soon as you place them.
3) Placing a SIM on the OMSP works, but DO NOT allow them to step off. They will fall off the world and you will have to teleport them back.
4) It may be necessary to turn the MoveObjects cheat to On to place some items.

Conflict Information
This is a totally new object. It should co-exist with any other custom content.

Policy Information
This object was created by granthes for the community.
Feel free to include it in any lots that you upload.
There really isn't any reason to recolor the object, since it is invisible in play mode.
Please don't claim this as your own creation, give credit back where it belongs.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

I also think there are some issues with different languages. My game is in Brazilian Portuguese, and even though the mod works perfectly and flawlessly, the menus have no texts. Thank goodness there's this handy menu screenshot you've posted :D

Thanks for the heads-up on this issue... When I built the mod the last time before uploading, I missed a step...

I have uploaded an updated version of the OMSP with all languages enabled. The text itself is in English, but at least it will show the menu's

I'm having some interesting issues with this. When I shift the OMSP sometimes it will randomly disappear when I grab it and try and move it somewhere else. Its not below floor level or above ceiling so I don't know why it does that. The object is still there in some sense I notice. Like if it is a light and I move the table it was on the light will move but I just can't see the light object itself anymore.... if that made any sense.

From what I'm reading here, it almost sounds like you've placed the OMSP on a table, in the placement slot of the table. Is this the case?

Is this happening immediately, or when you go back to play mode?

One other thing to watch for, the OMSP will jump away from the cursor when you grab it. The game thinks it is still at ground level so it calculates the move position awkwardly... You might zoom out a ways and make sure it isn't just jumping out of your view...

I can't open the menu. I did everything suggested in the comments, but it just won't work. Is it because I have all the expansion packs? Maybe one of them is interfering...? *Sadness*

The menu's only work in buy mode when you hold both the control and shift keys and click on the object. Your mouse cursor should change to a gear when you have the control and shift keys held down and you point at the OMSP.

If this still doesn't work, let me know both of these things:

1) Do the menu's show up blank or do they not show up at all?

2) What language of the game do you have?

Thanks,
Grant.

I'm really loving this OMSP, it's incredibly useful and a genius idea. I'm having an issue with it though. I'm able to place it and change heights in buy mode, it'll disappear in live mode, but when I leave the house or exit the game I'm seeing the OMSP in live mode when I return to the house. I was having this same issue with the disappearing OMSP/OE/OR with the vanishing script mod as well. I have no clue what could be causing this.

I have to say- this little thing is a real game changer from a decoration perspective. This and Orangemitten's movable shelves have made my collections more presentable. Very excellent work!

I have everything but WA and HELS - all patched. I only get "clone" when I cntrl/shft/clck - no other menu. English language. I do use Awesome Mod and Twallan's super computer and story progression mods.

I'm beginning to suspect that WA is required for this. I'll be doing more testing to try and isolate the problem.

I just set up a test machine that is base game only and will try there soon.

I'll update the description as soon as I know...

This does work in a base game with patch 1.18, and you don't need testingcheatsenabled to access the menu. I would recommend anyone with the missing test for conflicts with other mods/cc by having just this object in your mods folder.

Testing does indicate that this works correctly in any combination of Base Game only, or Base Game plus EPs and SPs.

If you aren't getting anything other than the clone menu, I suspect that there is a conflicting mod involved.

I'm having the same problems of some of the others that have posted, I do not get a menu if I try I get a grayed mouse cursor. I have tried removing all content but the OMSP but it still does not work, my game is completely patched and I am only missing WA and FL. I am running the game in English, the menus do not show up at all, and I am on Mac OSX. I hope to use it in the future it looks great!

I downloaded this promising omsp yesterday and played around with it for a little while. There must have been a bug in time because I know it can't be possible to do that for more than 12 hours! So this is the one and only bug I have to report to you! But the omsp itself - it works like a charm! I'm totally happy! Fridges, fireplaces, any height - no problem at all. The menu shows up perfectly well, it show the German "mehr" instead of "more" and the commands are in English, but so easy! I see, you love this baby of yours, too, why else did you give the option to name it? In reverence for its creator mine answers to the name of Granthes now!
My Granthes is absolutely amazing and I already love him a lot. Just wanted to let you know - I'll take good care of him!
