Starlight Close used to be the family home of the von Simmencrantz clan. However it is now up for sale because of the mysterious fate of it's most recent owner, professor Hans von Simmencrantz.

Hans von Simmencrantz was never an ordinary person. He was born as the only child of Alma von Simmencrantz, a world renowned painter, and Peter von Simmencrantz, a famous author. It was outright obvious Hans had inherited his parents' talents and abilities and then some more. He was a fast learner and had a curious mind. Ever since he learned to read, he became a frequent user of his father's extensive library. But most of all, he was fascinated by the stars and the far away planets.

As a young lad he was not interested in the things adolescents usually are. He did not care for girls, sports or any sort of regular amusements. He only wanted to use his telescope and gaze the sky. It was no surprise he chose physics and astronomy as his major in college. He graduated with outstanding grades and got a job as a science professor at Riverview grammar school. His parents had died and he lived a solitude and quiet life with only the housekeeper, Mrs Shallow, and the gardener, Mr Joy, as his company.

His passion for astronomy grew over the years. He started showing some peculiar behaviour the servants weren't able to ignore no matter how much they adored their master. It was evident Hans von Simmencrantz was becoming possessed by his search for knowledge. He spent more and more time alone in his study - browsing fervently through his books and maps, making some strange calculations and drawing odd blueprints nobody was able to make any sense of. Sometimes he wandered downstairs and turned on the television and gramophone, but not to listen to music or watch some relaxing programs. It was almost like he was searching some unknown frequencies or remote messages unheard to human ears.

He finally quit his job at the school and devoted all his time to his private research. Mrs Shallow was becoming increasingly worried. Her master hardly ate or slept and when he did, it was always alone in his study. The housekeeper kept carrying him trays of most delicious dishes, but he refused to even open the door. He became irritable and grouchy, he couldn't bare the company of others. Sometimes he drank too much and Mrs Shallow had to collect heaps of empty bottles outside the stody door. The only times professor von Simmencrantz came downstairs were to gaze through his precious telescope.

Then one evening the most bizarre thing happened. Professor von Simmencrantz disappeared. He was at his usual place in the garden, using the telescope and sketching some obscure diagrams in his notebook. Mrs Shallow later told the investigators that she and the gardener were having a cup of tea at the kitchen when they heard some strange noises, a distant rumble they thought was the thunder approaching. There was also a brief flash of blue light, like a lightning. Mrs Shallow was in a hurry to get the laundry inside before the rain and she rushed outside noticing professor von Simmencrantz was nowhere to be seen. It was not the only suspicious thing – all the crops at Mr Joy's garden had strangely burned to acid smelling ashes. The housekeeper became anxious and called the police.

Hans von Simmenctrantz was never found. There were no clues whatsoever. For a moment it was considered he had simply ran off. But how could he without any of his personal possessions? He would never abandon his research, and all his luggage was neatly stored at the shed. It was almost like the earth – or the skies - had somehow swallowed him. There was nothing the police could do and no indication of crime of any sorts. Professor von Simmencrantz was just gone, almost like he never had existed in the first place. All they found was a dirty notebook near the abandoned telescope.

For months the loyal servants waited for his return but eventually they had to seal the house and move on. Hans von Simmencrantz left no heirs, his only legacy was his mysterious research and the wild rumours circulating his sudden disappearance. The story ends with Mrs Shallows wishful words: ”I hope he is with the stars now. I hope he finally found what he was so desperately looking for.” Who knows, maybe he did. Stranger things have happened after all.

Word of Warning: I have again used a LOT of custom content. (I apologize the inconvenience it causes. I like to try to create as atmospheric and detailed lots as I can, and it feels impossible - and no fun - without custom content. CC just adds so much to the game, the base game content was very limiting and mostly just copied from the Sims 2 anyway.)
