For those of you who, like myself, missed having this cute little robot housekeeper from The Sims 2, here is a conversion of him for The Sims 3 to do your household chores for you:
If you prefer a female robot, the body is enabled for both male and female, and the female head is also included - see pic on far right below: Servo will be found in the Adult Male section of the Sim Bin, with a default name of 'Servo Male'. If you want a female Servo, simply change his gender to female and go to the female Hat Hair section to find the head. The body, should it turn up missing in your game and you need to re-apply it, is in the Full Outfit section of CAS for both males and females, and for all categories from Everyday to Swimwear. The same goes for the head, which is in Hat Hairs for both genders and is enabled for all outfit categories. The body is also enabled for Elders, in case you play Story Progression and your servo becomes an Elder. Please note that if you change your Servo to female or if he/she becomes an Elder, you will need to change all footwear for all outfits to Barefoot - otherwise, for reasons I have absolutely NO idea of, the texture from the shoes will appear on the robot's back and arms! Changing footwear to barefoot will get rid of the spurious texture. Please note that the head and body are NOT enabled for 'Random', so you *shouldn't* get random people appearing wearing the head or body - I hope! Traits: Green Thumb, Handy, Natural Cook, Neat, Never Nude Please note that your servo MUST have the Never Nude trait in order for his/her head and body to stay on when bathing - otherwise he/she will turn into a human with blue skin and a very skinny head, not a pretty sight. You can change the other traits if you like, but they are the best traits if you want your Servo to behave like a Servo. As well as doing chores, Servos also like to have a bit of fun - they enjoy chatting about science and their favourite foods, and are not averse to a little dance occasionally. The body and head are both recolourable/patternable, separately. So if you feel you really must inflict indignities on your Servo such as the pic at the far right below, you can do so. And finally, at the end of the day, they like a nice hot shower followed by plenty of WD40 and then straight to bed to dream little robot dreams. Technical Notes This Servo was a truly hair-raising exercise to convert and get to work properly with all the sim animations. This involved disassembling the original mesh to reposition the arms, and then long and tedious reassignment of every bone for all three LODs of the whole body - not fun, but so rewarding to now be able to have this character in TS3! This is actually just a regular sim wearing the body as clothing and the head as a Hat Hair, and I found it amazing that just by assigning the above traits, it behaves very much like you'd expect a Servo to behave, going around the house making beds, cleaning bathrooms, washing dishes and so on. Although not a true TS2 servo, it's pretty convincing. The main notable difference is that they sleep in a bed rather than recharge themselves. UPDATE: Also, for the several of you who have been asking what will happen if they get the female servo pregnant, I did not foresee people wanting to get a robot pregnant, but I should not have underestimated the wild imagination of the Sims community! From what has now been reported, the body turns into a human female pregnant body but the robot head is retained. If you want the robot body to be retained, open the body package in CAS Texture Unitool and go to the Part Category tab, click 'Valid For Maternity', and then save. The robot body won't get fatter, but at least it shouldn't turn into a human body. ISSUES: There will be some clipping due to a Servo having those large forearms, which can not be avoided as TS3 does not cater for a strange body shape of that sort. So sometimes the forearms near the wrist will clip into dishes and so on, when the Servo is carrying it, such as can be seen in the food preparation screenshots above. Also, trying to assign joints for each finger resulted in horrible looking in-game hand animations, so his fingers and hand are all assigned to the Hand joint and therefore his fingers don't curl. I hope you'll find this fun in your game - I'm having fun playing with him - and please let me know if you have any issues, though I've tested him thoroughly both in the base game and World Adventures without any problems. INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS: Unzip the .zip file and you'll have one file that ends in .sim and others which end in .package. Simply copy the .sim file to your 'Saved Sims' folder which is in your Documents folder under Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\SavedSims, then copy the .package files to your Mods\Packages folder. If you don't have a Mods\Packages folder and/or don't know how to install .package files, please see full instructions here: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...g_Package_Files If you don't have a SavedSims folder, you need to just create one yourself in the \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder. Mesh Poly Counts Servo Body: 2944 Male Servo Head: 412 Female Servo Head: 497 Custom Content by Me: - Female head for Servo - Male head for Servo - Servo body, male and female Additional Credits: MY BIGGEST AND MOST GRATEFUL AND ETERNAL THANKS GO TO BASE1980 for his very kind help in advising me how it might be possible to go about converting a TS2 body mesh for TS3. His advice was absolutely right, and if it hadn't been for his help, this sim would probably never have made it this far. THANK YOU so much! Made with the magnificent CTU: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=364926 UPDATE - FIXED: If you downloaded this sim on February 21st, please re-download the now-fixed version if you plan to recolour this sim's body in a very dark recolour, which a member kindly pointed out was not recolouring properly in such cases. The heads have also now been fixed to make the eye not recolour along with the rest of the head, as also requested.
