Provisionally updated for 1.26! Don't forget to download the updated VanishingObjectsScript too!
Man, sims are so vanilla. Home before midnight, never sit on the windowsill, only lock up your bike to an actual proper bike rack? How dull! Let your sims live a little!
With this lovely invisible bike rack, your simmies can enjoy the daredevil luxury of locking up their bikes to a fence, a lamppost, a slow-moving elder, or even thin air - without you having to endure the pain in the backside that is placing and deleting invisible objects.
This is a simple clone of the basegame bike rack, enabled to use Buzzler's VanishingObjects script. Thus, it's visible in buy mode, for easy placement and deletion; and becomes invisible in live mode - it will always be visible in Buy/Build mode so you can delete or move it easily.
Buzzler has now updated the Vanishing objects script. You can either keep the default version, which requires you to tell the object to become invisible (Pretty illustrated instructions in attached image here), or you can download an extra file from the VanishingObjects page to make the rack disappear automatically when you enter live mode. See the VanishingObject Scripts thread for more information!
Combined with sneaky use of moveobjects on and off-grid placement, you can create the illusion that your sim's bike is leaning up against pretty much anything...
...and the rack will remain fully functional, with sims using it to pick up and drop off their bikes, no matter how unlikely a spot you put it in. In addition, there's no pesky sunshadow ruining the effect!
The rack has only one default design (no prizes for figuring out why), and costs nothing, since it's the poor lamppost you'll be investing in. It appears in Vehicles -> Bicycles, alongside the EA bike rack, and has a custom thumbnail (see attached) for easy identification. It is available on both residential and community lots, so your sims can be louts and vandals in public as well as private!
Read this or it won't work!
This object uses Buzzler's VanishingObjects Script, which is required. You can download it here. Even if you already have it, you need to download it again, as Buzzler updated it just for me (Yay! Thanks Buzz!) and older versions won't work with the bike rack.
Please don't include this with lots, since you just know someone will not bother to download Buzz's script and will end up whining that the rack doesn't work.
If you want invisible car parking spaces to match, you can get them here!
P.S. Ahahahahaha it's an invisible rack.
Additional Credits:
Many thanks to Inge & Peter for S3OC and S3PE, cmo for pointing me in the right direction as regards designs, and most of all the amazing Buzzler for his magical script!

Install Instructions
Quick Guide:
1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.
For Package files:
1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).
For Sims3Pack files:
1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).
Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.
