Living in Venice

I was such a lucky dog this May that I spent a few days in Venice, Italy, staying in the historical center of the town; and although I promised myself not to recreate anything Venetian in the Sims 3, of course I couldn't resist in the end. This residential lot is an attempt for a "realistic approach" to create something like Venice, contrary to the "storybook /fantasy approach" that EA had chosen when created their "Last Venue of Amore" for the EA Store (which I don't have). While building this, I used mainly my own photos made in Venice as inspirations. These houses are not replica of existing ones; they are inspired by the real-life architecture, exterior decorations, street objects, wall textures, colors that I really observed in Venice with my own eyes.

I'm in trouble with this lot, mainly because I just built it, but I would never play; it's too mansion-size for my taste, and more importantly, it doesn't fit into either of my actual neighborhoods that I play. I wonder if any simmers play in an Italian themed neighborhood that this lot would fit in? I doubt it. Maybe if you play Monte Vista?

So, the lot consists of three blocks of houses, and only one of them is the actual residential townhouse for the active family (the pinkish one), the other two blocks are only shells, with no interior, and equipped with a "hidden room marker". As a consequence of the hidden room markers, the public areas - the streets, the bridge, exterior decorations - are not modifiable without cheat, just like in case of Late Night apartments - but this is NOT a LN apartment, it's a regular residential.

The townhouse has three floors and is partly furnished - the kitchen, a dining room and a small study on the first floor, the master bedroom and the living room on the second floor. The third floor is entirely unfurnished for you to decide how you would like to use it. I tried to follow Venetian traditions, which is, as far as I understand, the "dirtier" rooms like kitchen, pantry, any storage rooms are on the lowest floor, and the "nicer" rooms are on the second. Any additional bedrooms are on the upper floors. Altogether there are four bedrooms and three baths inside the townhouse. I also added a walled garden for your gardener sims, or it can be rearranged to become a children playground.

PLAYTEST and WARNINGS: I tested the lot for routing, but I haven't played it more than a few sim hours. It means, there can be problems that I wasn't able to detect. I apologize for the possibility. What i was able to observe though:

- The boats: The two boats that decorate the "canal" (and are from Island Paradise EP) don't like if one moves the lot. Most likely, if you place the lot in your neighborhood and open it in Build mode, you will find the boats floating high above the ground level - or deep down below the canal level. It's easy to fix though: type "testingcheatsenabled true" then "rbbb off", then "moveobjects on". Grab the boat and place it wherever you like. Don't forget to close the cheats in the right order. (Moveobjects off, rbbb on, testingcheatsenabled false).
- the technical front door is the kitchen door which is a side entrance only, but it's closest to the lot entry from the road, easiest to approach by the postman or the university mascot. There is a formal entrance door near the bridge, sims can use that too. You can re-set the front door to the formal entrance if you want. (Right click, "set as front door".)
- If you want to increase the living area: you have to remove the hidden room markers. Type testingcheatsenabled true, then buydebug on. Now you can see the markers in the inactive buildings. Delete them, close the cheats in the right order (buydebug off, testingcheatsenabled false), then exit the lot. If you open it again, you should have all the lot area modifiable for you. As a consequence though, the price of the lot will increase dramatically!

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.
2. Select the .sims3pack file you got from extracting.
3. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
5. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Select the house icon, find the lot in the list, and tick the box next to it. Then press the Install button below the list.
6. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the lot to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
7. Run the game, and find your lot in Edit Town, in the premade lots bin.

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.
