Build balcony for apartments?

How do you build a balcony for an apartment? Every time I try it shows up as another room so the exterior of the apartment building hides it, but I want to be able to build a balcony overlooking the town.

You can only do that with the buildings shells that have the balcony already there, the penthouses. Or you could build an apartment block yourself from walls and hidden room markers etc. and add balconies how you like. Adding extra flooring to a regular building shell just makes it look like it has got a ledge sticking out of the wall of the building.

Oh ok, so I guess I'll have to look through all 20+ shells to see which one has the balcony then /:
