Default Please, for the love of kibble, can I manage these !@#&ing pets?
This weekend, I was away from the Net and away from my Sims 2, so I played Sims 1 a lot more than in the past. I play on a little NB 205 Toshiba netbook.

I can still see the charm of this game, and played waaay too long. Some aspects are actually a whole lot harder than Sims 2. Building up a romance is really challenging. You think the Sim is ready for a romantic overture. Both stats are good. Then wham. He or she stops my poor Sim cold. Sims 1 Sims can play really hard to get!

Only one problem. Are there any decent pet mods out there? These critters keep coming into the house just as my Alex is about to finally romance Claire Townie. My scenarios have played as follows:

Alex Daltrey (my Sim): Gives her chocolates, a romantic hug, a nice dinner. She's been bringing over gifts and is responding to a little flirting. The time is right. He goes to kiss her, and ...

What the? The last thing he wants is to play with a stray cat in the house! Get that animal out of here!

Please .... in the vain hope that Alex and Claire will finally marry (he's proposed three times, to no avail), does anyone know of a way to keep pets off the lot, or at least not in the house? Every little bit to ease these distractions might help! Poor Alex has had to take far too many cold showers.

Again, I have only up to Unleashed because my netbook is really more for surfing and basic FB games than gaming. I installed the last two expansions and the game refused to let me enter a neighborhood or custom house. When I reinstalled back to Unleashed, the game works fine.

Hint for the marriage proposal - if she accepts a passionate kiss, she'll say yes. The relationship drop for refusing a kiss is much less than for refusing a proposal.

It's actually a little bit like following a formula or a script. Get relationship score very high and have a romantic relationship with a Sim (full red heart, not just pink) then invite said object of affection over. Greet, quick chat, feed, allow to use restroom, invite for a fun activity that includes socializing such a time on the couch watching TV (NOT the hot tub - Sims don't leave the hot tub), then when all needs have been met for the object of affection (hunger, bladder, social, comfort, fun), try a romantic kiss. If it goes well, try a passionate kiss. If that goes well, try a proposal. All of this has to happen within a certain amount of time before the guest Sim gets tired.

That isn't the only way to do it, but it's the easiest. You can also have your Sim take another on a date and invite him/her home at the end and propose when you get there. The timing is trickier with that one as Sims get really tired out on community lots.

I always worked it like this:

1. Ask date downtown.
2. Don't mess around with socials. Immediately order either the three course meal (if they don't love each other yet) or the two-course meal (if they both have red hearts).
3. Wait for your date to hopefully use the restroom. (If they start to get distracted by other sims or objects, skip to step 4.)
4. Invite your date to your home.
5. If your date has not used the facilities, block off all rooms except for the bathroom. (If your date has already used the facilities, skip to step 6.)
6. Fill a room with a nice picture, a nice plant, a half-way decent lamp, a good rug, and a couch. (Just decorate a room and cut off all access to distracting objects)
7. If for some reason your date is not already in this room, call them over to join you within it. Then delete the door.
8. Propose.
9. Once they say yes, sell the objects back. (Please note that you may not receive a full refund.)

The Possibilities are Endless

That sounds like a lot of work! But you should get a full refund if you've had the item for less than 24 hours.

Unfortunately, all three pet repeller links are dead. I thought I read something about a sign ... I'll have to check that out. I'm starting to warm up to this game again, but honestly ... those pets are driving me mad! I might even put all the expansions on my PC, just to be able to play everything the way you folks are so fortunate to be able to play it. One thing I am finding out is that this game is actually really easy to uninstall and reinstall. (Praying Sims 2 will be this easy when I have to do it later on.)

I MIGHT try Superstar on the netbook. I know all the expansions together are NG, but I did put more memory on this machine than the last time I tried to install Superstar, so perhaps I can get away with it now.

And this is a really stupid question ... but where am I supposed to place hacked objects if the creator doesn't specify where they should go? I downloaded the teleporter bush, but have absolutely no idea where I'm supposed to put it! I suppose I could put it in the Simsky folder if need be, since that has the hacked dollhouse. (Perhaps rename the folder.)

The original stray away pet sign, offered by Maxis on their site, is available here:
http://ts1depot.hfguide.net/getcoolstuff_objects.html - Scroll down to "Unleashed"

Also, there are a couple of recolors on TSR that are made to look like bird feeders. I also got a leafless tree and I think I got it at TSR, but I don't remember.

http://www.thesimsresource.com/down...h/stray%20away/ - Bird houses on the first two pages.

You might also find this helpful for your own Sim's pets, gates (doors) that allow people through, but not pets:

I do believe I have enough pet repellents to repel pets for the next two decades. Yes, I did find the Maxis sign, Sigh. It wasn't as if I had a ton of custom content that I should have missed it.

And marka93, I did read the post, but some sort of intelligence repellent in my head apparently blocked the message. Sorry about that! Gotta love those brain fog moments.

Thank you, marka93 and VerDe Terre! There is still much I'm trying to figure out about Sims 1.

It's really easy to miss custom content in The Sims because it isn't marked conveniently with the little *. I have a Sims Wardrobe utility called SimCategorizer. One way I use it is to classify each new item so that I can find it in the game's catelog.

There's a yard sign you can get that keeps pets off of your lot. I believe it's in the decor section.

Yes, a few of us in the thread have pointed the OP to where that can be downloaded.
