Default Sims 1 windows 8.1, almost everything is black
The game launches and loads up fine. but when I get into a lot everything, except around sims and GUI objects, is black.

I don't know what to do... help please?

I'm sorry to hear your game isn't working :/ May I ask how you installed your game - did you go through regular installation or did you choose to "install as admin" (or similar) ?

I believe i installed it as an admin, but I'm not entirely sure at this point, it was a while ago

Try to turn down the color to 16 or 32 bit and see if that works.

Went through an reinstalled the whole game.

It still does the same thing...

It did the same thing for me. I tried various compatibility mode options, reinstalling, run as admin, all that, but the only thing that worked for me was to run the game in windowed mode.

you mean you don't lust after death? you don't wanna go on a romantic cruise to hell with death? you don't wanna give death an oil massage?

Seriously, I had the same exact problem, and no Compatibility Mode could save me. Run it in windowed mode the same way you would TS2. It'll have a weird giant black box around it (or on it). I couldn't find a permanent fix for that, but hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the lock menu, and once you exit out of that menu the box will be gone.
