Each season lasts five sim days. However, if you want winter over and over, then just choose winter/winter/winter/winter. You get to choose which seasons you want to run and you can even skip some if you want to and just run two to four of the same kind in a row. Therefore, if 5 days isn't enough, then just make all 4 of your seasons the same one in order to get 20 Sim's days worth. If you want, you can just keep the same season going forever.
Also, each lot can have it's own seasons apart from all the other lots. So if you wanted, you could have one lot winter the whole time, and the one right next to it could be summer all the time. Whatever lot you are on, however, will be the one that dictates how the other lots "look" from your lot. If you set your lot to winter, then all the lots around you will appear to be in winter, even if you've set them to be otherwise. If you visit any other lot while your played lot is in winter (or whatever season it may be), then your season will carry over with you to the lot you are visiting while you are there. Then, if you decide to stop playing those characters and want to switch to the lot you visited, the lot you visited will be as you left it, whatever season you may have set it to be.
Have I confused you thoroughly so far? lol! In any event, the seasons are very versatile and you can set them to be whatever you want them to, and make them last as long as you want to by setting consecutive same seasons in a row. But initially, each season lasts 5 days.
