Why I dislike TSR
Now, I know TSR has been open for a long time providing downloads to fans of TS1-4 alike, however some aspects of the website really tick me off.

1. Ads, ads, ads.

Now, I know that ads generate revenue for a site to help keep it running, but that doesn't mean a website can plaster ads everywhere to the point where everything feels buggy. This for the free users that occasionally stumble upon a cool item there.

2. SLOW AF

I don't know if they purposefully slow down their website to entice people to upgrade to VIP, but that's wrong. It's wrong to force people to fork over a small fee every month just so they can have a smooth browsing experience searching for clothes and such. Seriously, WTF.'N

3. VIP

This site happens to run even though there aren't any ads or premium services forced upon its users; so how come TSR needs all those ads and cash from VIP users? 'Nuff said.

Sorry for double posting, but I'm just wondering if this is the correct thread. The rules confuse me a little bit, because Off-Topic doesn't allow any Sims-related talk, but Sims discussion is by each Sims game, so I'm kind of lost here. :p

Agreed. I never download from there, I shouldn't have to wait half to wait half a minute to get a hairstyle or something, and then be bombarded by a hord of malware-filled ads. I'll stick to MTS thank you.

Well with an adblocker like uBlock, you don't get the malware ridden ads. You DO have to wait a whole 60 seconds to even start your download though: and it won't count down while you're on another tab doing something else! That's why I only download off TSR if there's no alternative to what I need.

I hate you can't really search there for their older retired artists. They keep trying to get you to get VIP.

I look things up on TSR then hop on over and grab them off the Booty. if it isn't there it isn't worth having.

I stop going over there when I found out they were hacking and stealing from other sims 2 sites over 6 years ago.

There's a way around that. If you open the countdown in a new tab, pull the tab to its own window (do NOT minimize, just hide it behind another window), the countdown will continue. You can only download one thing at a time though (the download will time out if you try to download multiple items).

And there's always the booty.

Yes they did and they were charging for it to.

That's why I don't download directly from TSR.

I haven't had any problems with TSR lately. The only things that annoy me are the sluggish performance, and the inability to multi-download.

The only time I've had trouble with TSR was many years ago (2007-ish) when I caught a virus while visiting the site. But rationally, the virus could've came from one of their ads and not the site itself.

To be honest, I actually did regularly use TSR, but that was a while back, when they didn't go crazy with their VIP product and website slowdown.

I also realized that TSR is more about quantity rather than quality now. While I'm interested in more or less almost everything that new creators post on MTS, I don't see anything in some of the creators works that stand out from the others.

TSR confuses me as I see practically half the page is ads.
It doesn't feel as easy to navigate like here.
Only downloaded one item from there, then ditched it for a more detailed version.

As a maxis-match player, TSR's plethora of crappy, skanky photoskinned garbage holds no more interest to me than its amount of awful lots that probably haven't been properly cleaned like those many at MTS make.

Did I mention that I hate TSR's photoskinned trash?

I agree with Amandie. Photoskinned junk can stay out of my game, thank you very much. I'm quite happy scouring the numerous Simblrs and Lifejournals and MTS posts for high-quality, Maxis-match content.

TSR is just... blegh. If I had one word to describe it, my choice would be blegh. From the content, to the type of people running that site, and everything in between.

I don't mind photoskinning, as long as it's not overdone. It can actually work effectively in some cases. Unfortunately, for a while there in Sims 2 history, most creators who used it DID overdo it, and most downloads from that period (around 2007/2008 or so? I might be off there) ... not just TSR's ... reflect that. I consider it a sort of TS2 fad there for a while

I don't mind waiting the minute. I just fold laundry, get a drink, or go to the bathroom. TSR may force me to leave the page open (though apparently, that's not quite true), but it CANNOT force me to look at the page. Not yet, anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if TSR is working on that.

But I do it only a few times a year, only when I know exactly what I want (including those infamous teen male clothes), and only if I can't get it off the Booty or elsewhere. TSR's past antics still leave a sour taste in my mouth.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

RIP Sunni ... truly a ray of light.

I only get a ten second wait for downloads. I download from there if there's something I like, although I don't go specifically looking on there. I've learned to just ignore the ads.

Ten seconds for me as well - I wanted a wall that I saw in a lot on MTS I did not want the lot, just the wall.

TSR have very little, if any, quality control on their uploads and the user experience is horrible. There are occasional gems in there, but SO MUCH rubbish to sift through.

Does Maxis-match mean custom content that stays true to the Maxis cliqué? If so, I agree whole-heartedly.
Never been a fan of TSR, that red skank on their page grinds my gears. Plus the ads, ads, ads.

I have a question, what is "photoskinning"? I've never heard of that term before. Does it mean the painted on shiny overrealistic clothes that some people make their sims wear?

Essentially, yeah. I've never really cared for photoskinning, but to each his own.
I think it looks off when something so realistic-looking is in a graphically silly and out-dated game such as the Sims 2.
Then again, it's none of my affairs; some things actually look good, that are photoskinned.
