Thanks both! More mods for my game.

Ironically, after I just cleared a couple of long-since-forgotten unused mods out. Which, due to being forgotten caused:

Quote:
Object id: 55
name: Controller - Apartment
Stack size: 2
Error: Bad gosub tree number.

This was due to a long since forgotten conflicting mod. That was put in before I learned about simp and only got my attention when I couldn't rent a newly built apartment block.

Remember folks: Check your mods and remove old unused conflicting ones.

Yeah.. I've been doing it the old way all this time:

1) ctrl+shift+c
2) type tc1 (enable testing cheats)
3) shift click tree & force error, selecting reset. (fire goes out)
4) type tc0 (disable them)

Is there any good reason I shouldn't clear out all the files in the Logs folder? I have some 100 mb of error logs.

100 mb? What have you been doing???

But yeah, you can clear out the "ObjectError" and "Sims2Exception" files. They don't do anything else than report errors, and I don't think the game uses them after they're created and you've exited the game.

Really?

How do you get that much?

I always clear out the "exception" files. How many crashes have you had?

Mine only occur after a crash and I've been forced to close the game.

I play with testingcheatsenabled on and have a... habit of force-erroring noncontrollables when they're being annoying.

I just checked and I have over 600 error logs dating back to 2017 (when I got a new computer and had to reinstall Sims 2). XD

Does anyone play "active careers"? As in, do you actually do something special with your sims who work in a specific career track? What do you do with them?

I've been thinking about making some lots to send my sims who work in a specific career to work over there sometimes, but I don't really know what I'd do with them. I have functional schools in my neighborhood, which I only play when I feel like it , and I send my sims who work in the Education career to be the teachers. When I play my prison/jail, I have my law enforcement sims over there to "work". I have a few vague ideas for others, but I have no idea for careers like paranormal or adventurer. What would my criminals do? And slackers?

In my last neighborhood, I had a teenage grave robber. He'd hang around at the cemetery and dig around for stuff to sell. He wasn't in the criminal career track because he didn't believe in bosses, but I can see that working for the lower levels of the career.

As for slacker, the most fun lots would probably be a golf course for the golf caddy, clubs for the party DJ, maybe even an exclusive-looking club for the professional party guest. I'm not sure how fun a convenience store or gas station would be, but in my current game, I've made a music shop that would work for the record store clerk position (as well as music career sims). Nothing is actually for sale, just set up to appear that way - it's part of a mini-mall, and functionally gives my sims instruments to jam out on for fun - but you could always make it an OFB business, if you wanted.

I haven't intentionally created lots for specific careers, but I do act out careers on community lots when I can. Like, athletic sims will show off on the sports field, culinary sims will fire up the grill to feed everyone, music and entertainment sims will perform for tips, etc. I also downloaded the NPC careers, so I've had at least one barista "go into work" on their day off to cover a shift. I'm intrigued by the challenge of designing a career lot now, though!

I've got a mod that enables pickpocketing, so some of my criminals do that sometimes on community lots. If other sims lose a dice roll when walking past my criminal's home, I'll also make the playable walk by sim selectable and if they have anything in their inventory, I roll again to see what my criminal steal from them before making them unselectable again.

My doctors often run clinics (home or community lot business) using an eye chart that opens up the make over screen; bruise or scar makeup gets added or removed depending on the sim, or they get bandages or glasses.

My sims in the adventure career take more vacations than my other sims.

Sims in the politics career often run a community lot as a municipal building, selling pet items (licenses), deco papers or books (building permits), toy cars (licenses) and other odds and ends to represent fees people might have to pay to government offices, or things some municipalities might sell.

A while ago, I developed some alternate BACC rules, and each career path had an associated lot. Several of these are more useful if you have a mod that enables skilling on community lots, and Monique's Hacked Computer is required to do stuff like pay fees or fines. Feel free to use any of these ideas or adapt them. I didn't get so very far in that BACC, if I recall. Making up the rules was fun, though.

- Adventurer: Travel Agency where Sims can schedule vacations using the hacked computer. It could also sell vacation-related items like camping gear.
- Artist: Gallery that also offers art classes
- Athletic: Gym and Salon
- Business: any kind of store
- Criminal: Casino; I had a rule about there being a chance of it being raided if there was also a Police Station
- Culinary: Diner
- Education: Public Library with skilling objects
- Gamer: Arcade and Internet Cafe
- Journalism: Coffeeshop/Bookstore
- Law: Law Office; I had a rule about Sims being able to go here and settle disputes or divorces but I don't think I ever played that out, so I'm not sure how it would work exactly
- Law Enforcement: Police Station; the police were able to levy fines for violations like public fighting, trashcan kicking, or owning a bubble blower, and they also sold burglar and fire alarms
- Medicine: Medical Clinic; Sims could get treated for illness or get artificial insemination/fertility treatments (all require mods), or they could get plastic surgery
- Military: I actually developed an idea for a whole military base with a residential barracks and an officer's club; I played some of these ideas in my beginning of Strangetown hood
- Music: Concert Theater
- Natural Science: Animal Shelter
- Paranormal: Graveyard; I had some ideas for buying services like supernatural potions or resurrection services, but I never implemented those
- Politics: Public Square; I put the lectern career reward on it and Sims could give speeches--it was fun because the townies would actually go listen
- Science: Learning Lab; this was where the chess club met, and they could also learn robotics or play on the medical career reward
- Show Business: some kind of entertainment venue, like a skating rink
- Slacker: Nightclub with karaoke

Is it fine to just compressorize your whole Downloads folder?
I don't even have that much CC, just curious.

I don't think that hacks or hacked objects should be Compressorised.

I think so. The whole idea seemed too good to be true, so I imagined there would be some catches.

I've compressed all of my downloads, including hacks.
it does not affect them at all-or not that I've seen.
I've been compressing everything for about 16 years so far.

Most mods are text based by definition and compressing their external file size should not going to affect their ability to work.

Some of the biggest files, by the way are the usual suspects-cars, hairs and deco items.

I've compressed everything-including pixels themselves. If pixels can withstand it, so can CC.

Wait, really? I'm not kidding when it sounds too good to be true. Magically making my CC smaller in filesize sounds like a miracle to me for some reason
I'll try compressorizing my DL folder to see if it works. Some things just don't change filesize also.

I have a Sim (his name is Hector Pringle, picture below) and I was about to make him into a townie. Unfortunately he has overeaten and grown fat! My question is : Will he still be overweight when he's a townie? To be on the safe side, he's bought a "Sim Bouncer" mini trampoline, but he's going to have to do a lot of bouncing on it to regain his slim figure:

(I wish I could work off my own stomach with a few hours exercise on a cheap trampoline! The Sim Bouncer costs only ยง99, and it's fun to use! I look like an overweight male Sim! )
