@AndrewGloria are you using FastStone to convert? If not go grab it, it does a bunch in about 5 seconds.
Busy today guys, but I will try and update the table tonight.

In the Grunt-like house, can I add a four-click high wall between the first floor and the roof or is that breaking the rules?

You can change roofs and add as many stories as you like, so yes. It's only the original outside shell that isn't to be demolished.

Round 4 Entry - The Singles
"HOW MUCH???" exclaimed Chloe, before Lola pinched her arm to keep her quiet."That will do fine" said Kirsten firmly. "Now,where do we sign?"
So, with a refurbishment budget that was surely down to a computer glitch, the girls took possession of their new home. Even with their memory loss, they could work out that they weren't all sisters - well, maybe two of them were. It made sense to think that they were just room mates, a temporary household that would be broken up when one or more of them moved on to live her own life. The budget available meant that they could afford substantial building works, so they built with an eye to the future. With just a little structural alteration, their new home could be converted into an apartment block, which would mean that one girl could sell up and move without disturbing the others. For now though, it's still one dwelling though each girl decorated her own floor to her own tastes and interests.
The girls had heard that one family had already got away with an oasis theme as desert compatible landscaping, so with money no object they went for oasis max - and fun max too. They intend to spend a lot of time outside, after all.
N.B. This is a big lot and I have posted a lot of pictures. Let me know within 24 hours (holiday) if you need some removed and I will take down some of the detailed plans.

@Aysarth Anybody else
Seeing I gave 15 on Beaker's (3 extra for the extra story) I will give each story built an extra 3 side pictures- how does that sound?
Also, does everybody have enough time? A few more days is fine so long as things don't drag on too long.
Everybody. Since you can pick any lot you want this last round, can you supply a picture of the original lot you made over?

Okay I have edited my entry to include a basement and the original house, and reduced the close-in top downs to 6, as I have 12 Sim's eye view pics. Hopefully that will do it.
See you all when I comeback.

I think I'm happy with my house now, but I'm going to leave it overnight and take a last look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow before I do pictures. I see no reason why I shouldn't be done by the deadline, though.

It wouldn't really feel like an unlimited budget round if I didn't spend 100k on the exterior. It just wouldn't feel right.

Dons silly hat: No, that's easily done. I say it and it happens. *blows smoke off pistol* darn I like that power.
Dons sensible hat: So in the normal way of things contests are supposed to run about 3 months. The word being 'about'. I posted 12 may and it's now 12 August (over here it is anyway) But one contest even ran as long as 5 months due to extended hold-ups. 5 months really is too long, but a handful of days is not.
I added 8 days to the last clock as I had lost count of how many days had been given before I got scores up. I will add on 4 more (12 days after scores seems ample) Not to the clock as I dislike setting that thing <_< I will just say so underneath the clock +4 more days.

Round 3 Play-along (very very late!) - The Curious Brothers - 1 Tesla Court
Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo could hardly believe the size and sheer spaciousness of the house they were allocated by the Town Council. The Council had to give them a grant of over §43,000 to enable them to purchase the property without eating into their own resources. In making over this house (nay!, rather a castle) they tried to keep some of the character of the building, while making it much brighter and more to their own modern, not to say eccentric, tastes. The telescope viewing platform and accompanying tower, built on the roof, was their own special addition. Here Lazlo is trying out the telescope while, far below him, Pascal is teaching Titus to walk and Vidcund is holding baby Andromeda.
Required Pictures
Front View
The Curious brothers like the London White Brick Wall Treatment, and it is extensively used throughout the house, both outside and in.
Aerial View of whole Lot
Plan of Basement
Nervous's old room has been turned into a simple TV lounge. There is a flat screen television on the rear wall and a few posters round the walls.
Plan of Ground Floor
The original open arches at the front and rear entrances have been replaced by glazed doors to reduce draughts. The fire in the sitting room to the left of the main entrance has been retained, but with a modern fireplace and mantelpiece. On the right is a combined cooking and dining area. The base of the tower has been made into a small nursery, which overflowed a little into the dining area. Vidcund's daughter Andromeda is still a baby, but he's sure she'll soon be learning to use a potty, so there are two of them in the nursery.
Plan of First Floor
This is where the Curious brothers and their children sleep. Each of the brothers has a large bedroom; Lazlo's on the right is probably bigger than he needs. Vidcund's bedroom is at the back of the house. Pascal's is on the left at the front. The children each have a small room near their father's room. In front of the children's rooms is another small nursery area, with potties colour matched to the children's bedrooms.
Plan of Second Floor(Tower Room)
I suppose I'd better include this one, but the truth is I'd forgotten all about this room until I spotted the door leading into it long after the brothers had moved in. (Andrew says I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on!) I did remove the original wall-covering (Fay's Fieldstone -- I hate "undressed" stone inside a building) but, as I forgot about this room, I never got round to painting the walls. To paint the 8 walls in cheap paint (say "Paste" or "Sage") would cost §24, so it would still be within budget even if I added a couple of cheap chairs too.
I think now we'll paint the walls (in consultation with the Curious brothers of course), probably in "Sage" green, and put 3 of those cheap (§80) folding plastic chairs round the walls, so the brothers can take cover, should they get caught by a sudden rainstorm while stargazing. This is of course highly unlikely since (1) we're in the middle of a desert, and (2) I don't have Seasons!
The Price of the complete Lot
This gets quite complicated: §115,285 is indeed the price they paid to move in. However it immediately became obvious that the telescope viewing platform was too small to be usable, and it had to be extended by 2 tiles as shown in the first picture. The cost of this extra work was §155. (Tradesmen's accounts are available for inspection if needed.) This brings the price up to §115,440. A little later in the morning we discovered at a that a §210 two tile light fitting in the kitchen was partly hidden behind the fridge, so it was replaced by a §190 single tile fitting, reducing the effective price to §115,420. If we add in the cost of painting that top floor of the tower and putting 3 cheap chars there brings the final effective price to §115,684.
Now the Beakers lived in this house for about 2 days before the aliens turfed them out, For this reason I reduced the budget from §120,000 to §115,700. And the end result is that, despite all my mistakes, the house is within budget by six Simoleons!

Additional Pictures
Rear View of House
The House by Night
Kitchen/Dining Area
The brothers enjoy Monday lunch -- their first meal together in the new house.
Downstairs Nursery Area
Vidcund is changing his daughter Andromeda's nappy. ("Diaper" for American readers),.
Main Passage from Front Door
Instead of open arches, there are now glazed double doors at both ends of this passage.
Downstairs Bathroom
Vidcund is bathing Andromeda
Computing and Miscellaneous Area
With two very young children to look after, the brothers haven't yet found a moment to make any use of this very large room. Visitors Lilly Sims (at the Moneywell computer) and Circe Beaker did make some use of it. Behind Circe you can see the steps down to the basement where Circe and Loki used to keep Nervous Subject. It's now a TV lounge. The larger picture visible on the wall of the basement is the (expensive) flat screen TV. (The smaller picture is a poster.)
Basement - TV Room
Vidcund and Lazlo enjoy a moment's relaxation together.
Vidcund's Bedroom
Pascal's Bedroom
Several rooms in this house, and not a few items of furniture, feature the colour green. It reflects the brothers' interest in alien culture, and of course it helps their children to feel at home.
Lazlo's Bedroom
Lazlo's Bathroom
Fed up with mopping up puddles after him (a constant source of friction in the old house), Pascal and Vidcund have given Lazlo his own en suite bathroom where he can make as much mess as he likes!
Upstairs Nursery Area and Children's Bedrooms
Vidcund is putting Andromeda to bed in her pram.
Upstairs Bathroom
Pascal is bathing his son Titus.

Recent Developments
After a few days in the house, the brothers have made a few minor improvements, which cannot really count for the play-along as they would put the house over budget. First Lazlo has bought himself an absorbent bath mat to soak up all the water he spills in the shower. Secondly, in anticipation of Andromeda growing up to a toddler, Vidcund has bought her a proper crib, and moved the pram downstairs so she doesn't end up lying on the floor. And finally the brothers have bought a chess table for the "miscellaneous" area, and moved the Moneywell computer and its desk to make room for it.

Round 4: Singles (101 Road to Nowhere)
For round 4, I chose the Smith house (101 Road to Nowhere), made over for the Singles.
A few things to note:
Kristen's room has a sofa bed instead of a proper bed so she can fold it away during the day and have more room for her excercises. She says it's a sacrifice she's willing to make (and actually the sofa bed in question has the same energy/comfort rating as one of the Ikea beds - I can't remember which).
The trampoline beside the pool is another of Kristen's ideas. In real life, she would use it to bounce into the pool instead of dive. In game, she can't actually do that, but neither is she in danger of falling into the pool when bouncing right next to it.
♫Cuz I don't have a home in this life, I have to roam. Got nowhere to lay my head, so I'll follow you instead, and set my gaze on the place I'm going to. Til then I'm homeless, but I'll roam with you...♫

Round Four Entry: 101 Road to Nowhere - Curious
Quote:
The Curious Brothers This scientific family consists of three adult brothers; Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo. Requirements Each brother should have his own bedroom with a nursery ready for Pascal's coming alien baby. Bios No matter what happens, Pascal believes there is a logical explanation for everything. In his free time, he practices home psychoanalysis and collects conspiracy theories. Serious and exact, Vidcund strives to fit the universe into a nice tidy package. He has an unnatural fondness for African violets. Not as studious as his older brothers, Lazlo got his degree in Phrenology. He likes to call phone psychics and spends hours trying to bend forks with his mind. |
This lot, originally belonging to the Smith's, has become home to the Curious brothers. I had a lot of fun making a house that was really different from the original. A photo of the original house is attached below (from the SimsWikia, as I had already begun when Jo asked). No walls of the original foundation, ground, or first floors were changed. The greenhouse walls are made of windows rather than the in-game walls.
There are phones on all floors, a burglar alarm by the front door, and the extractor over the hob functions as a fire alarm.
I had to do some work this round to reconcile my headcanons for the boys with their actual in-game biographies. I like bringing in some of the later game supernatural elements to their family. Pascal remains a conspiracy theorist obsessed with aliens, but also a major gamer. Lazlo is also a gamer, fairly laid back, and still enjoys interacting with both phone and TV psychics. In my game, he's also a warlock. Vidcund remains the most serious of the three, but is also a werewolf. All three enjoy seeing what the rest of Strangetown thinks of supernatural beings, and laughing at the things they/movies & TV get wrong.
Full lot overview
A little bit of crazy paving makes an appearance!

On to the more detailed tour...
Downstairs of the house is fairly open, with a kitchen/dining room and living room off of the main hallway. There is also a full bath and a door into the greenhouse.
The living room is relaxed, with TV, games console, chessboard, many bookshelves, and a small toy box for the new arrival. This is where the boys do the majority of their studying.
The kitchen/dining room. A trash compactor and dishwasher are hidden by the island. Another bookcase features for more casual reading as opposed to intense studying. There's a bed for Vidcund's pet dog, Zo.
All of the boys have an interest in gardening and sustainable living, but Lazlo takes the most care of their plants. The empty planters have space to plant vegetables, while an array of fruit trees are outside. The greenhouse has a direct door to the patio outside, which features some seating and a bubble blower. All three of the brothers like to partake and contemplate the world...
The small garden pond also contributes to their sustainable living through a small population of fish. The aforementioned fruit trees can be seen on the right. There's a kennel for Zo next to the house. A dirt path leads to the observation tower, home to the most expensive telescope.
Pascal's bedroom is on the first floor, along with a nursery for the new arrival. His computer serves for both gaming and conspiracy collecting, with pinboard and a map to keep track of the theories he's tracking. He's heard a lot of talk lately about the number 3, but doesn't believe the hype
The nursery is bright and colourful, with plenty of opportunities for play for the new arrival. The potty is on the landing outside, near the full bathroom, while an activity table can be found on the covered balcony. There are two small bench seats in the windows for sitting down to read.
Lazlo's bedroom is a little more subdued than Pascal's. There's some extra space for placing down his magic items once he's moved in. His desk gives him an opportunity to game and to research magic.
Serious Vidcund's room is even more subdued. There's another bed for Zo up here, with a bowl in case she gets hungry. Numerous different varieties of African violets litter the surfaces. Vidcund enjoys art that plays on his lycanthropy and dogs as humans, as seen on the wall (I really love those recolours, ngl)
The final major room upstairs is a shared work space. There's a biotech station behind the camera for the boys to practice their pipetting for work, along with two more bookcases. The TVs allow the guys to keep an eye on news, new theories, psychics, etc. This space was a little inspired by the collection of TVs in the original Curious house. The tables feature books and papers, logic skill toys, and a phone to keep in touch with the psychics once the TV ones go off air. Corkboards again help to track theories, while the werewolf movie cutout is from Vidcund's favourite, most ridiculous, inaccurate werewolf movie.
This floor also features two full baths (one ensuite for Lazlo) and an alien pinball machine on the landing.
I had about twenty pictures for this round, and could have taken more! Very hard to whittle down to twelve but I got there in the end
Thanks Jo, judges, and contestants for a fun contest! I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this round. And another thanks to Jo for extending the time on this round, as I would have been super late otherwise.
