This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, Late Night
My Sim Won't Go to Work
Hey everyone. So it seems I have to put quite a bit of extra time into actually getting things to work, as opposed to actually being in the game itself, but for now, that's ok, I haven't blown my lid yet!

Anyhow... my sim won't go to work anymore. I have the nraas carreers installed, and on a previous game I was able to actually able to go to work at the outstanding citizens - industries - place. But now, in the same town, with a new game, I am not able to get my sim to go to work. She will be standing right there in the driveway, waiting for the carpool ... they come... and she won't get in the car. I quickly switch to town view and click on the building and "work" and it immediately cancels out. Sigh...

Does anyone know what may be going on here?

Thanks!

Just a quick question..you mention you have careers installed so I assume you have the SP base mod in your new game and have either imported your settings or have adjusted your settings. Do you have Error Trap and/or Overwatch installed? If you do are script errors being generated? Have you tried sending other sims to work?
Where this is a new game, even though the same town there could be routing problems. Try using MC to reset the lot or the entire town. Another suggestion: when this has happened to me in the past I've either bulldozed the lot where the sim goes to work and replaced the building or moved the building to a new lot.

Thanks barbarat. The settings I adjust are time, to slow that clock down a lil and I ofcourse use testingcheatenabled true and make needs static so I am not just constantly running to the bathroom. Those two and nraas careers. I am not getting any script errors. I do not have error trap or overwatch. Not sure what you mean by using MC.
I did actually save my game an hour before time to go to work, then I went and picked up the building and copied it to my library, then deleted it and then plopped down a new building. But doing that only made the adult carreers of nraas disappear. I will try moving a little closer to the building I guess, but even going to the building and standing there in the yard of it and waiting till time to go to work and she still will not go in.

Hi ooBobbi .. are you using NRaas Relativity to adjust the time or some other method? I'd suggest setting the time back to its default setting and see if that helps. Remove the static setting and see if that helps. Have you tried sending other sims to that job or another job to see if they are able to go to work? Have you tried send a sim to work in another world to see if perhaps there is just an isolated issue in the world you are playing.

I'm still not sure what NRaas Careers you are using. Are you using the Careers Module in Story Progression? If you are do you have the base mod installed?

If you are not adverse to using a few additional mods I suggest installing Error Trap which will report and clean up errors and Overwatch .. those two mods are pretty much essential to keep your game clean. See the pages I linked to and for more information detailing what Overwatch does see This Page . Once installed you really do not have to do anything with them. It might take a few game loads to clean up and/or report any errors but you should notice a difference.

Master Controller . MC provides functionality to manage the population, objects and lots in your town. The mod provides manual interactions for altering sims either individually or en-masse as well as resets which help with routing problems. There are full details of what the mod does linked on the page.

Chancing the career outfit often helps. Crinrict has other suggestions, as well, if you're interested: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2014/0...go-to-work.html

Thank you both Um, yes, ok... the nraas career I downloaded was the adult career mod, enabling the criminal, web cam porn star and prostitute careers. It is the only "acting" type career I can find in the town, where you actually get on screen, increase celebrity status and get regular pay increases. For her, she had the super star life wish thingy and needed to be on screen to become that star.

Same town, different character, was able to go to work there, a character who began sim life as a young adult. My daughter had started out as a teen and would not go to work even after her birthday. Yet after a restart and a young adult sim who was never a teen before, went to work. So it must have something to do with the teen herself. I will definitely check out the link you gave varpunen! I will also look into those other mods barbarat.

I got looking around in edit town mode in the buildings bin, and I noticed a really large building and it's description was all about movie production. So I scanned the town to find the largest lot plot I could find, and I plopped that huge movie production facility down on the map. Nowwww that movie star career track is available through that building.
I scrapped that game and started yet another with that building present in world and now my daughter can just go there instead.

Wish I had known before that all these extra buildings AND career tracks that go with them, were right there in the buildings bin! errghh!

Good to hear ooBobbi .. Not sure either what actually caused your problem...it could have been a corrupt save or objects that needed to be cleaned out of the game. Glad to hear you are going to look into Error Trap and Overwatch. They are essential for maintaining a clean game.

There are also options to create your own open work-places using Zerbu's Ultimate Career Mod as detailed in the link.

There is a smaller studio lot that I am using instead of EA's huge Movie Studio Lot. Don't want to push you at this point after all you've been through but if you are interested it can be found at the bottom of the Tiny Lots Page under Miscellaneous Lots.

Again, glad it worked out for you and happy simming

lol!! I had to laugh in rl at that... but, yes! I dooo want to look into those! And will mess around with the town again and start another new game too! Thanks so much :lovestruc

Sometime soon I would love to tell you about a town I actually purchased for 20 bucks through EA... which wasn't at all what it was advertised to be

Ok, sooo, I just downloaded all of that stuff mentioned above. Overwatch, error trap, story progression and a whole bunch of stuff from nraas. I am really impressed with nraas! What a whole big bunch of really great stuff they have for the Sims 3. Whoever is writing all these scripts and has these abilities... should be designing their own game to put out there

Thanks y'all, for all of the great suggestions! :lovestruc

Ok, having some issues now. Wondering if you may have any insight, or anyone for that matter ...

After installing these mods, AND after having played it a couple of times with no issues, suddenly it takes for freekin everrrr to load up! The slpash screens we get while it loads the game, where you are supposed to look for this and that and click on the object for lifetime reward points? Those screens were going relatively quickly, now for some reason, it is taking literally like 20 minutes or so. The green load bar goes from the beginning and about 90% of the way across fairly reasonably, but then at around 90 or 95% or so, everything just stalls out and it just sits there for around 20 minutes.

There was a message in game that some sim was stuck in a pathway or something. Nothing has really changed in my game. Worked well a couple of times after these mods and then not.... any insight anyone has I am very thankful for!

Errorlog, Overwatch, MC should not affect your load time. I can only think perhaps removing your previous career mods etc... might've been causing some issues.

I suggest you delete your cache files and use MC to do a whole town reset.

No, I am no longer trying to get my teen sim to go to work. She isn't able to interact with the celebrities anyhow, so I went ahead and allowed her to transition to young adult.

This is regarding how suddenly the game is taking so long to load up. I didn't make a new post about it because I had already been talking with a few here in this thread about the mods, so, it is kinda a continuation of that mod conversation but with a new addition of this new problem.

I have not yet downloaded that MasterControler Mod. I felt it was a bit overwhelming to do all at once, (keep in mind I am a pc illiterate! and also new to the sims 3! double whammy for me!) So the Story Progression mod I am liking and trying to learn and there is a lot to that mod, so I figured I would see what the MC mod was all about later on down the road.
But at this point with my game taking so long to load and everything being "laggy" now in game and with a bit of choppiness to the camera motion, I am going to have to do something...

Not sure what is causing your slow loading time all of a sudden but a fewof thought & suggestions:

The Splash Screen when loading ... I would disable that in Options next time you go in game.
If you have not yet installed Error Trap and Overwatch as nitromon suggested do install those along with MC. None of these mods will cause problems with loading times (see link below for more detail).
Once they are installed it will take a few game sessions for them to clean out all the game junk that bloat files causing lag as well as report other errors causing game problems.
You will see script errors and a lot of them initially. Those error logs identify what was cleaned out but they also have information to help diagnose what is causing problems. The script errors can be zipped into one folder and set to NRaas for someone to read for you. See How To Upload Error Files

Thanks barbarat It cleared up, and those are installed now I found some clothing files in the .packages folder from the sims2. Not sure how they even got in there, but when I removed them and started the game again it was back to normal.

Nowww, if I could only get my sim preggers and be able to choose the gender! :P

You can choose the gender with MC or at the very least give a nudge toward the desired gender with proper fruits (apples or watermelons).

Yes, I read that somewhere on the net about watermelon. This will be my 3rd run through the pregnancy, both other tries before no matter how much watermelon my sim had, she still had a boy ... errrrghhh!

That's odd. They've always worked for me. Did she eat them as is? They won't work if they're used for cooking a meal. But yeah, if you want to be sure, MC is the way to go.

Yes, I had them in my inventory, around 20 of them and just ate nothing but watermelon any time she wanted to eat. I went ahead and got the MC mod and installed it. Just went in world and used it to create a baby girl Then it just crashed when I exited out of create-a-sim lol.

In CAS? You really just need to use the MC on a sim after she's pregnant and choose the gender. Easy that way.

Can't say why the fruits haven't worked for you. But 3 is basically all you should need. Any fruit eaten over that amount has absolutely no effect anyway.
