Default Question about securom in sims 2
I was thinking about getting this series, but I remember an issue with securom in it. Which ones are the expansions that have it? I would not like to get infected, so I want to avoid those.

Do not install pescado's mod. It is the one producing the errors it warns you about. Get Twallan's instead. It cleans your save file and prevents glitches.

Classic SecuROM, aka SuckYouROM. I wonder why EA would choose to use DRM that has gained such a horrible reputation - and a horrible nickname.

Try reading this thread. I would take heed of what Mootilda says. I have all the sims discs and have never ever had any problems with Securom. If you want the game I would start looking for it now, cos they aren't making any new discs!

Want a specific style of house or community building? Why not take a look at my profile and see what I build and then come ask me to make it!

Bon Voyage was the first EP to have it, and every EP and SP after Bon Voyage has it.

Well, I have all expansions and if I'm 'infected' I never noticed. I never had any problems.

Thanks Karen :-)

Im the same, have every ep & sp, haven't noticed anything untoward (other than cc conflicts) but I do tend to be mildly oblivious

@marka93 im wondering if there are other options for a sims disc that wont load (tried quite a few things), instead of the securom removal tool. Im concerned about it messing up my serial number or something. any ideas ?

If you have or had SecuROM and you can no longer install your game then SecuROM has already burn out you CD/DVD drive. The only way to get it to install again is to get a new drive for your computer.

There are other ways to get around SecuROM but were not allowed to talk about it here.

Just remember that you can't actually run the game once you uninstall SecuROM.

I agree with member "Marka93 it will damage your CD/ DVD drive when I was on Window XP ( back then ) I had to get a tech to install a brand new drive. ( this tech told me that other Sims players had the same problem. )
This only happen after I purchase and installed Bon Voyage ( I wasted my money it is still new in the box going no where. ) any game after "Seasons" have that nasty SecuRom.
I was so upset because I really wanted to add BV but after that no, and now with my new super build custom computer NO WAY.

I never had a great problem with SecuROM, bar the fact that it caused a context-menu problem (everything would hang or freeze after right-clicking in Windows). I fixed it by using ShellExViewer to switch off that behaviour - doesn't stop the awful, aggravating, futile and genuine-customer-punishing DRM from being there, but at least it isn't messing up my system any more (at least, not so obviously) with its evil, lurking presence!

(I'm allowed to mention this fix here, aren't I? Nothing nefarious going on, just tweaking the genuine install so it causes fewer malfunctions).

This is what happened to me after installing all ep's etc., and hard drive failure -- this was back in the early days of secuROM and before what could happen after secuROM was installed was completely clear and documented. A new CD/DVD drive wasn't enough -- I had to get a new computer, period. Now that we know "most" of the possible consequences, I strongly recommend that you do your research and safeguard your computer system. It cannot be emphasized enough that although many people say they've had no issues, there are many, many others who have had major issues and since you can't predict beforehand which group you'll fall into, be aware. Good luck!

I guess it's kind of like deleting graves. There's plenty of people who say "oh I delete graves all the time, never had a problem" and plenty of others who've accidentally deleted one game and their neighbourhoods instantly became unplayable.

I have heard mention of securom concerns. However, I have played for several years and have all of the EP and SP's; have re-installed or reset my game many times and have never experienced any issues related to this. I don't give it any thought and forgot all about it till seeing this thread revived. So, now, back to simply enjoying my Sims (smile).
