FordGT,Thank you so much.I'll make new tests with an empty lot and see how the game works.

Do you think that it could be a problem with my hardware ? The caches are likely not involved in the CTDs,I delete them nearly each time before launching the game.

Have a nice sunday.

I have indeed tried taking out all my custom content. But I still keep getting the same thing. After taking all the CC out and trying to restart the game, it goes to a black screen and crashes. I get this:

It's probably a CC thing, but it worked perfectly fine with the CC before today. Is there any way in knowing which CC is causing the crash?

Do you have frequent crashes to the desktop in other games? Does your computer randomly restart? If yes to either of those questions, it could be hardware related.

That's serious. Did you try clearing the caches (CLA can do that under one of the menu options)?

If that doesn't make it work again, try renaming Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 to something like Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 backup then run the game. If that works, something is wrong with your user data. You might have to start all over. If you want to restore your corupt user data, delete "The Sims 3" and rename "The Sims 3 BACKUP" back to "The Sims 3." It will most likely crash again, unfortunately.

Process of elimination. Remove all CC to make certain it is, in fact, caused by custom content. Add about half of them in to see if the crash returns and keep adding a half until you find the culprit.

By the way, I heard somewhere that the anti virus program AVG interferes with Sims 3. Can anybody confirm if this is true?

I think someone has said that an anti-virus did cause problems. I can't remember if it was during patching or not. Generally speaking, you should disable anti-virus programs while gaming. Make sure to leave a firewall enabled though (hardware or software) so a worm doesn't attack you while the anti-virus is off.

Thanks so much for the info and for your reply. I'll disable my anti-virus program (Panda) before launching the game.

I don't play other games.Just addicted to the Sims.My computer doesn't restart randomly,it seems to work correctly, except the CTDs.

Don' know if its important, but I prefer to add this here :

Before the game crashes, a strange issue happens : The screen becomes darker (like when the cheat console is open). Its just during a very short while (1-2 seconds),then its back to normal. It may happen just once and then I can play without crashing. But sometimes it happens repetitively and that means ...CTD soon if I don't leave the game.

Yesterday I entered an empty lot (with a new game) and the issue occured, just once, after the lot was loaded ! Then I have played during more than an hour and everything was fine and smooth...

FordGT,Thanks so much for your patience and your precious help.

Since you don't play other games, you could try to stress the system...

Processor and Memory: OCCT - Select the CPU and run the stress test for 1-4 hours (at least 2 hours recommended). Any errors indicate hardware problems.

Graphics: FurMark - Recommended to disable your screensaver/powering off the monitor before using FurMark. Run it fullscreen at the resolution you play The Sims 3 on. Run the stess test for 30 minutes to 2 hours (at least 1 hour recommended). You will see a furry dounut spinning and that's really all you should see. If you see anything out of the ordinary (like the dounut disappears or splotches show up randomly), there's something wrong with your graphics.

You keep jumping back and forward between 0xC and 0x24.
588 CC = 0xC
1 CC = 0x24
591 CC = 0xC
580 CC = 0x24
590 CC = 0xC

That's all of the last 5 crashes. First, jumping between the two is very abnormal. Second, it's not too likely to be caused by custom content seeing as it does it with or without CC. At the same time, I'm thinking that's too consistent to be a hardware problem.

I did just notice something though (I should have spotted that a long time ago): all your expansions aren't current. WA is out of date (2.9 vs 2.12), as is HELS (3.5 vs 3.8), and Ambitions (4.3 vs 4.5). I would highly recommend getting those updated. You can use the þatch Downloader or manual patch (it will auto-link that) to get those up to snuff.

Use the "Copy to Clipboard" feature to copy the summary of the logs and paste it in your reply. It has more information than each individual log has (like version numbers and custom content installed).

Thank you so much :lovestruc

Dear FordGT,you helped me to improve in managing the game.
I was used to let the launcher download and install the patches... and was stupidly 100% sure that my game was fully patched. Its why I thought that the Patch Downloader was only for people who have a hard time with the launcher.I had no idea of what it really did...and have missed this other wonderful tool from you

During this afternoon all my time is free,so I'll be busy making my game really current.

Besides there is something I didn't report to you and I wonder if it could be important.Just in case:

I bought new hardware almost two years ago, as Sims 3 was announced. It was a lot of money and I knew that I could not afford that very often... So I decided to spend some more and to buy 8 GB of ram (thinking of a future Windows 7 -64)...

Well, all 8 GBs are installed on my computer, even if currently only 4 are detected..Could it generate some problems ?

Thank you for being such a generous genius

Naw, just kind of a waste. It's kind of like having a car with 700 horsepower when you only drive 60 MPH. It doesn't hurt anything (except power consumption but minimumly so) but it also doesn't help anything.

That looks like tearing. Again, it could be the CPU, GPU, or RAM. Do you happen to remember how high the temps got when running FurMark? If you don't remember, you could run it for a few minutes until the temp flatlines and stop it. Also, did you notice if OCCT caught any errors when running the CPU tests? If GPU temp was less than 80C and OCCT didn't catch any errors, you should probably let memtest86+ run for a few hours. Before you shut it down, note how many errors were caught.

I do believe that is first 0x14 (error 20) I've seen.

You were so quick ! Thank you so much.
Didn't yet make tests with OCCT.

If I well remember my test with Furmark, the temps were 85° ( displayed on the top left corner ).I'll run it again and carefully test with OCCT.Probably tomorrow.

I am very grateful, you help me keeping playing the Sims 3.Without your precious advices and your wonderful tools I think that so many crashes and issues would discourage me.

85C is alright. Most likely, one (or more) of your sticks of memory are bad. Memtest will confirm or deny that. If there are, you'll have to figure out which stick is to blame by running memtest with only one stick in at a time.

If it were the CPU, your computer would most likely be restarting itself a lot without warning.

Thanks for this new info. The worst would be something wrong with the graphic card, since its such an expensive component.

"My" computer guy will take my computer to his workshop in the next days (or weeks...) when he will receive my future Windows 7.He is aware of my Sims addiction and of my issues....He will make a complete "check up" of the computer before installing the new os.

I'll make all tests with OCCT,but then I'll wait for the ram because I am unable to take ram sticks (or anything else) out of the computer...I am just a poor basic computer user !!!

Big thank you !
