buyable deco
Statues for lots, or hood deco; herds and individual cattle (black angus beef cattle, or long horns), goats & sheep. Realistic chickens for lots would also be nice. I don't want to ride or milk them, just the LOOK of a working farm. I have found individual dairy cattle, not even well done.
Stand up, speak out. Just not to me..

Kind of statues, but better ... Plumbbob Keep. SunandMoon's chickens, ducks and geese actually work OK on a community lot. (They won't starve if you leave them there.) These are not NPCs ... extra plus. I have these in my vacation historic hood community lots, and have used them for some time. You might even be able to pick up a few eggs.
I believe there are other animal statues there as well ... non-interactive ones. Looking quickly at the site, I see simply deco goat, turkey and duck statues there (wiccandove). Lots of goats ... all different colors. Kids as well.
I found others. One of my lots, Discovery Place (a kids' museum), has a petting zoo with statues. I'd have to see whether those are wiccandove's or not.
Don't know as much about the cows. But there are deco hood cows. (Not Angus ... sorry.)
https://www.thesimsresource.com/dow...-cow/id/954661/
I have these in the historical hood as well. They show up if you go to the lot next to them. I would think if you have the mod that lets hood deco items show up in your lots that they should show up as well, but I do not really know. Right now. I just have the deco barn and cows to fit a space where I couldn't put a community lot too easily.

Sun&Moon is very good for farm animals:

Though they do have functionality - not just a statue.

Maxon, you and I have to stop meeting like this.
And .... hogs, too? Going there NOW. Thank you, maxon (and I'm not the one who even asked this! Sorry, DL folder!)
I find it amusing that the goats are slaved to the nanny. Kind of fitting.
I would think these could work like the chickens and geese on a community lot, though I'm not sure. You can leave them there and they won't starve or disappear. Might be time to make that Aggie center I've been thinking of in my Uni hood.
Oh, and grammapat, you didn't ask about ducks, but here are more duck and duckling statues. These are statues ... no functionality. They look pretty good in-game. They were on my community lot in the last contest:

sunandmood does make some beautiful animals; I used to have her breedable chickens; but like some of the other sites, they require CARE - which isn't what I want.
I did get the ducks - pretty on a pond.
Thanks everyone. Geez I would think making STATUES would be SO much easier than "living" animals.

Finally got into my files and looked at my Discovery Place.
I've had the PBK chickens and geese on there for some time as well ... so far, they're still there. But again, that's for a community lot. I think you do have to be more diligent with a residential lot.
I see what you mean about the SunandMoon cows, goats and pigs ... those have far more actions and features than the fowl. I'm thinking of sticking with statutes as well, too. I would have no idea whether leaving the lot and re-entering freezes or slows down the aging process of those more-intricate animals. The PBk chickens, ducks and geese are simpler in terms of aging and care.
The goats, turkeys and other ducks I use in my game outside of the pens or coops are indeed the wiccanlove ones from PBK. The birds in the coops/pens on that lot are the SunandMoon ones. Unfortunately, I cannot find the proper water dispenser for fowl and have no idea on how to even "fake" one with move_objects, so right now, I'm embarrassed to write that I'm using pet dishes for the birds. (Cringes.)
Wiccanlove goats, ducks and turkeys:

I haven't tried the ones below, but these might work, too. (I just did, and they look pretty good.) You might want to use that box mentioned or a fence so your Sims won't kick them! Goose-kicking is just not cool, Simmies!

But I thought I saw other animal statues somewhere ... maybe Blacky's Sims Zoo? You'd need to register, but I could at least check over there for you. Something is nudging at my memory .... I thought I saw cow statues somewhere that didn't look too 2005-ish. I agree with you that for the most part, I prefer statue animals in my game.
EDIT ... There are sheep at Blacky's. Ewes and lambs, though. No rams. But they look pretty cute, though again, you would have to register:

There be cows here, too:
http://hafiseazale.tumblr.com/post/...aken-from-becks
And more sheep and goats:
http://kativip.ucoz.ru/load/kativip...imals/4-1-0-723
Someone claimed there was an AV problem with the site ... I have never encountered it.
I downloaded several of the statues in my game. (That's what I get for trying to be helpful! ) The cows indeed show up in hood view ... the others do not. The sheep are actually Barbie. (Feeling a little weird for noticing that, but ... ). You have all sorts of different poses for the sheep ... they don't need to just stand there! Heget's cattle (thank you, stitching, by the way!) and the wiccanlove goats are not Barbie ... there are definitely males and females. (I knew that about the goats, but not about the cattle.) Proportion-wise, they look OK. The goats are slightly largish, but they do not stand out because of this, and some goats are largish in real life. Either that, or I'm looking at too many pygmy goats recently. Probably the latter, actually.

gazania: those sheeeeep are indeed nice looking. I did get the ducks and goatsies. And (do I think too much about Sims?) I dreamed that I made (for hood deco) realistic groups of range cattle- some lay down, some scattered grazing, some following each other. Black angus and long horn - who DO graze pretty rugged country. And for my Calif home, some lot Llamas, and buffalo (yes, we see them being raised here). Oh, and for some Egypt lovers, small groups of wild camel, and a camel caravan. ALL just objects. But woke up - I don't know HOW to do any of that.

Wait ... I thought I saw a camel somewhere!
Yes I did ... but it's not a bareback camel: http://hafiseazale.livejournal.com/30002.html
I haven't seen llamas or buffalo though.
I'm with ya ... while I do have a couple of animated animals (one an NPC, one not) and I do have the PBK geese, ducks and chickens, I have mostly animal statues because I don't want NPCs or CC I have to be concerned about. If I decide I don't want them, I can easily remove them just like that. Or if I don't want to fuss with them, I can just have them as decor. In addition to ducks, stationary geese, swans, goats and now the cows and sheep (I just haaad to try to be helpful! ) , I have turtles, frogs, fish and some other aquatic wildlife, deer and rabbits (those last two aren't quite sized right, but they do for me), a couple of songbirds, and a few I know I've missed. Oh ... forgot the two dinosaurs! I know there are other animals out there, and wouldn't be surprised if I download those sometime in the future.
Good luck with any further searching!

The thread got photofucketed, but here's some deco chickens I used (I remember Porthos Roseland chewing one of them up and it turning into furniture springs....):

Yeah, when something breaks from pet damage it turns into a pile of wood and couch springs. Even homework.
