This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default User files stuck in Read-Only attribute: causing errors?
My game has never acted so buggy before, though this is my first install using UC.
Examples:
At first, my playable sims started sticking too often for my liking (a lot of resetting), then the gypsy became stuck on my community business lot, my dog is stuck at work & non-summonable, & now the worst... my toddlers are plagued by the random animation of playing in the pet bowl food. They will sometimes move around without any action in the queue, free will or otherwise & continue moving around for no apparent reason to no avail (similar to pacing.) Often, my commands have been disappearing from the queue from toddlers & adults as well.
HCDU reports 0% possibility of conflicts & I tested my game after temporarily removing my most recently installed CC. Still happening. I occasionally use the Bat Box also.
I will do further testing of possible CC problems tomorrow. However, upon further research, I discovered to my dismay that a Windows update (I have 8.1, 64 bit) set my playable data files (Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2) to Read-Only & I cannot currently get the attribute to revert. I cannot find a current fix & am thinking it’s not safe for me to play & save anyway until Microsoft produces a fix or someone finds a work around. I’ve tried everything that I’ve come across that seems credible. I am really upset about this. I don’t know how long they’ve even been set in Read-Only & what kind of possible damage that could cause to my files.
Does anyone know if Read-Only can cause game errors/bugginess such as mine & if so, if there can be long-term errors due to?

Thanks for the input,
SYL

Not an expert, but seeing how the game is structured, I guess you're right. Everytime you edit something in game (like, I don't know, edit a lot or play with a family) the files inside "Neighborhoods" change size - but if the game is unable to update those files, it's likely that's the reason for you problem.
There are some files that are save to have "read only" (it's a actually better), like the ones in "C" and some in "Documents".

Maybe this can help with your problem? https://www.sevenforums.com/tutoria...-attribute.html

Thank you! The website was definitely helpful. Game is running much better now! No more pet food bowl animation troubles. Hard to say if that was the culprit. Appreciate the help!

Anytime windows updates come out it will reset itself back to read only so you will have to make it read and write again.
