Thanks, it taken a lot of reading, finding resources, juggling and patience. The whole patience thing is only something I have learnt to have over the last 5 years or so. I use to loose my wool far more often when they were younger. I think knowing what I am dealing with helps. Schools sometimes can be great places but they can also be the worst places. Quite a lot of bullying goes on at local schools here and I have no wanting to wrangle with them over two IEP's (Individual Education Program) when I know they don't even have what we need. The closest dyslexic school is in another state and my son is on the cusp, he misses out on a regular classroom by 2 IQ points. I'd rather deal with my kids than bureaucracy.

I could, but I'd have to make the other colors first (I really do make them "as needed," with specific Sims in mind, so if the picture shows a black hair sprinkled with gray, that's the only one there is at the moment).

These are just the colors shown. They're in the custom section.

It makes perfect sense to me - and your kids need your attention more than bureaucracy does

I guess being a millennial and a product of the marketing invention that was 'tweenhood', I've just instinctively created interior ages in my game.

At 11-12 and 13, I was wearing light makeup, and getting dropped off at the mall to hang out with friends. We were also allowed to walk to the library, and ride our bikes across town to each others' houses, so I have children in my game do the same at that age (depending of course, on personality.).

I have worked out to the year exactly how old my sims are, so that despite the game being unrealistic about it, I can organize activities and such the way I want.

I dress kids at the end of the child stage (ages 11 -13 depending) more maturely, and encourage them to be independent. They still have dolls out and such, (because I did) but they also get to go to the mall with teenage friends, and be friends with young teens who are 13. They might even go to an under 15 disco or something, and I can hold dances for them at school. Younger children are dressed - as closely as I can manage - in clothing that indicates their approximate ages. They play on playgrounds more, and have more toys about. I also don't stop the dancing on toes and read to interactions when they're younger, though I discourage my older children to do that (to make it more realistic - I hated that stuff at 11 because I was 'practically a teenager' and it was 'babyish'...)

For teens it's the same. From 13-15, teens are not allowed to work or drive in my hood. They can babysit, but must be paid in cash, and can do chores (like gardening and such) for the neighbours to earn pocket money. They must walk to lots or call taxis if they aren't dropped off by their parents, and they have to attend school unless they belong to a religious group that removes them from school. Parents can be fined for truancy however. Still generally being children, these teens are dressed younger, they rarely wear heels, make-up is generally light (though that depends on personality also) and clothing tends to be more on the conservative, cutesy side. Hairstyles are simpler.

Older teens, from 16-18 may work and drive, and are allowed some adult priviledges. 18 year olds can get married if they choose, but 16 year olds must have parents present. They may dress how they like, and can be out late. They can also be considered delinquents if they are caught causing trouble, but parents will not be fined as they are of age (they will go to Juvenille hall instead).

It's actually be really easy to determine a tween age span once I knew how old each sim was.

For middle-aged adults, I do the same thing. I dress them a bit older, choosing more structured, conservative styles (although it does partially depend on personality). I give them a few wrinkles depending on skin tone, and pretend that you just can't see the greys as my mum only has a handful and she's in her 50s. If they roll wants to get pregnant, I have them 'consider' surrogacy and adoption. Their hobbies and activities don't really change at all though, as I don't see why they would. I do try to have them socialise predominantly with sims in their age group though, but then I do that with all of my age groups.

I'm sure an opinion similar to my own has been voiced already, but I just want to point out that it's not really about children being [i]curvy[i], but rather about them being realisticly varied. Baby and toddler suit fine, but realistically, "child" suits ages 6-12, and "teen" is technically anywhere from 13 to 19 years old. That's a huge gap. Sure, you could use "child" for 13 years old, but what about 15? Teen is too mature for 14-16, and child is far too babyish.
If I'm basing my sim of a 15 year old, do I pick child, or teen? I definitely agree there should be an additional stage, between child and teen. Someone who would fit as a middle schooler, while children would be purely for elementary school.

Recently I feel like I would love a preschool stage...

I've got one or two things on MTS, but most of my stuff is on my main site here:

Why is teen too mature for 14-16? Girls have finished growing by 16 and I doubt my daughter is going to grow much more and she is 14.

Why not? Kids used to have paper rounds at 12, my daughter works in our shop every Monday.

This is why I use an extended life mod. One day=1 year-ish. Babies and toddlers are a little longer because I really enjoy that stage. But that way I feel like I can play them through most of the 'stages in life' although I guess its more in my head since they don't physically look like it.

I very much agree! The jump from child to teenager is way too much, I'm sick of pretending my teen Sims are middle schoolers, I just want a pre-teen lifestage! it's so hard to cope when the children look like they're 7-8 years old so they're way too young looking to make into middle school kids, they use stepstools, and are too small to sit normally in a chair. But teenagers are allowed to drive, date, get jobs, so that's what has gotten me upset because a pre-teen isn't as small as a 7 year old but they also can't drive or get a job yet so yes I really wish Maxis thought of this, though they might be adding pre-teens in the Sims 4 as an expansion pack, which the jump from child to teenager in the Sims 4 is even worse, and I mainly make my Pre-teens teenagers because most tweens can cook, and get a few jobs like dogsitting and babysitting, and they don't need to use stepstools to reach the top of the counter, honestly though, what 11-14 year old uses step stools to reach on the top of a counter? you'd have to be a dwarf to be that short as a middle schooler.

They essentially skipped 2-4 lifestages already, depending on how you count them (Toddlers, proper teens, proper babies, proper elders), so I have my doubts about more life stages...

I'd very much love to have preschoolers and preteens in my game, and also a more fleshed-out baby stage (maybe going as far as to starting to crawl). It would make storytelling a whole lot easier.

And while there are downloads that simulate the body of an 11 - 13-year-old girl, they look a little odd. On the other end of the age range, the kids look a little large to be 5 years old.

I would love a preteens category and I would love to kick the college out. I really hate that every freaking teen wish to get to go on college - stop it you eggheads - I halfway wish there was the generation between adults and elders or that adults in their last week got half grey hair or something - dreams -

Kick it out then. Have young adults in the main hood having babies, running shops, going to work or doing nothing-or skip the age altogether. Don't worry about college wants just install no fear uneducated and carry on. You can make this game do pretty much what you want. Getting older adults to look older isn't too hard with custom wrinkles a change of hair and clothes.
