Once again, a thread about Sims 2 Beta
I didn't want bring some other thread back from the dead just to post this, but I was digging sims 2 beta stuff online because I was bored and I found some site with old screenshots from the game that I had never seen before. Apparently the needs panel was supposed to be vertical and there were L shaped staircases! (on the right side of the house, next to the bar) and the sidewalk is also a little closer to the road:

I wish it was available to the public - then we could have the real Sedona and other beta worlds, and all those accessories that had been deleted before the game that was released.

@GabyPurpleB please upload the pictures as attachments - the site you're remote linking from isn't having any of that nonsense.

The clunky looking ones are from the 1st-2nd Sims 1 game engine and the others are from the 1st-4th beta of the Sims 2 game engine.

Most of the one's with TSR on them are from the closed E3 session just before the 1st day of E3.

Don't be sorry - was just giving you a little humourous heads-up. I mean, a site not having any of that nonsense? It was meant to kinda anthropomorphize the site and make it look obstinate is all. I don't bite.

I remember these. I even had a cd with interviews and behind the scenes footage. Came with Makin Magic. Anyone else remember that?

I didn't have Makin' Magic as a standalone, but I had Complete Collection (and still do, but currently waiting on a new part for that computer so I can play it again). Complete Collection came with a teaser trailer for the base game AND university. If you look at the Uni one , around 37ish seconds you can catch a glimpse of THOSE BLUE STUDY BOOKS ALL OVER THE FLOOR. As per usual.

Those beta images are super cool, though. Can't believe how much the game has evolved from those stages!

There is still Sims 1 content in the package files, once they got the Sims 2 engine they started porting it over.

Its just something I read a very long time ago that Maxis was using the Sims 1 engine to start putting together Sims 2.

Where I read it I can not remember now.

Cool! I think that one is probably an old icon for the deck foundation.

Edit: does anyone remember this male outfit being in the game? I think the pants are, but I've never seen this hoodie before.

And two Dons lol. I figure they just got rid of Waterside because of redundancies like this. It was also pretty much made entirely of copies of the bin lots. Or perhaps they got rid of the neighborhood and used the lots to fill up the premade lot bin?

Edit:

Then, at 1:18 someone asks if something was present (can't hear it) and she said it was "hidden for the purposes of the demo".

I think the person asked about the needs panel or the rest of the UI. And something tells me that voice was actually what the teen voices were supposed to be.

Same, it sounded kinda off. But that's the only explanation, the Therapist is nowhere to be seen in the video, and it sounded more like someone talking normally and kind of forcing a childish voice, not the Therapist lines . Maybe it was the same voice actor.
Also, in this video (the original version of the one you edited i think) if you pay really close attention, even the adult voices sound kinda different. Maybe all the voice tracks at that point were just placeholder?

LMAO. EA recycled way too much stuff from 2. Even literal unused animations.
Also, I think idle animations were a really nice detail they should've kept in the game. The girl in the red top in this video for instance (instant 1:05 she has her arms crossed and is tipped to the side). I think they just scrapped them for shorter animations because the player would had to wait for the animation to be complete for the sim to do the next task.

I also found this beta version of BodyShop: https://www.fileplanet.com/140517/1...op-Starter-Kit-
Don't use it if you have The Sims 2 already installed or it will corrupt your game!!!
DON'T INSTALL IF YOU HAVE THE GAME ALREADY INSTALLED, PLEASE INSTALL IT ON A COMPUTER THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE SIMS 2 INSTALLED!
Sorry for the over alerts I just don't want someone to end up with a corrupted game because of me.

It seems redundant that Pleasantview and Waterside would coexist because there would be two Dons and two Dinas, but even in the final, we have two Bellas*. So it wouldn't surprise me. Maybe they stuck one of the Dons and one of the Dinas in as a placeholder to be replaced closer to release? I dunno.
