Default TS2 Ultimate Collection Help & Tips Thread
1. If you're still trying to get the game, please go to this thread for more help.

2. To fix the game to work with widescreen monitors, see this message board post (external site) and edit the file below:

c:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\TSData\Res\Config\Graphics Rules.sgr

3. To start the game in Windowed mode, edit the shortcut to the game on your desktop (right-click, Properties) and change the target to:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\TSBin\Sims2EP9.exe" -w

(Add a -w at the end).

4. For help with installations under Windows 8 I found http://modthesims.info/t/500523, but you may need to skip to the end, since the early stuff has to do with discs. I'm not sure what kind of problems people are having with Windows 8. Some say there AREN'T any problems.

5. For help with other graphical issues besides resolution, including the black box issue, check out the unbelievably helpful Leefish.

And finally, Mod The Sims of course has a large TS2 knowledge base here.

For finding new CC, I'll just list a few of my favorites besides MTS, maybe others can chime in.

sims2defaults database - currently my favorite way to get CC into the game while replacing ugly base game content
tumblr - surf around, find artists you like, then follow them
sims2cave update threads - all the latest stuff in one spot

Please feel free to add to this thread or post questions. (I'm not an official anything, by the way, I'm just really excited about the UC and want to help out.)

Here's an interesting thread about hobbies. I never dug very far into Freetime, and I didn't know a lot of this stuff.

I think I may have found something important as to why people are losing their neighborhoods. According to the FAQ's...

To prevent this occurrence, please run the game once before restoring the Neighborhoods folder, to ensure that the config files are generated fully.

Wow, the FAQ's really do help sometimes! So I guess when uninstalling the original game, and installing the Ultimate Collection, we need to run the game without the neighborhoods first? I'll try this. (Probably going to take a while.)

Didn't help in my case.

I ran the game in its default form, then tried copying over my old N01 folder, and Pleasantview still doesn't work.

I was so sure of myself too. I'm gonna try it and then edit this when I get done.

Edit: I got the neighborhoods to work! I'll explain in a new post.

If I remember correctly, you just have to create a new folder called "Downloads" in "Documents\EA\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection" and the game will recognize it. Also, yep, I would assume you can still have subfolders. I don't see why that would change.

lizbeth, if you give me a link to a lot you're trying, I'll grab it and try.

Also, my hoods are fine. I have a mix of default hoods I never play, and custom ones I do.

Okay, I downloaded just the lot file: MTS_Echo_434965_carnival_commlot.zip

I noticed that sims2pack Clean Installer does indeed get confused about where the Teleport folder should be. So I unchecked Default destination and pointed it to the right place. But while it unpacked the few objects bundled with the lot to the right place, it left my 'correct' Teleport folder empty and made one directly under EA Games (I think).

So I ran it again and let it use what it thinks is the 'default' folder. Then I found the files that were in that folder:

cb63d098dbdf23c3204d5c1015f1bc2b.Sims2Tmp
cb63d098dbdf23c3204d5c1015f1bc2b.Sims2Import

And I moved them to:

c:\Users\[user]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Teleport\

And then I started the game. The Carnival lot is in my game now (and placed in my town, and I was able to load it).

Early conclusion: sims2pack Clean Installer can't natively deal with UC well. But downloaded lots are fine, you just have to move the files into the correct Teleport folder and then run the game.

Some of those folders may not get created until you run the game the first time.

You guys know that carnival set has at least one NPC in it, so you can't uninstall it without corrupting your neighborhood.

Mods, can't we get some sort of sticky, maybe to the wiki pages on what to not do, at the top of the forum? Please? There's a lot of people who haven't been around for the discussions and work in the last year who are starting playing Sims 2 again. Like this one: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title...Hood_Corruption

If you don't have the folder just make one there is no need to re-install.

That'd be fine, granted I could actually run the game. I've been trying unsuccessfully for about an hour now. I can feel my sanity deteriorating as I keep trying.

Thank you! The person you described is me, exactly! Been a VERY long time since I've played TS2 and am already looking around for some of the "must have" mods.

Mods that help the game not to break fall into that category. =)

Not just mods, Redhead, but all sorts of things the game lets you do, older tutorials say are okay to do, that the smart folks around here have figured out can lead to corrupting your game and/or neighborhoods, and that can't be modded out.

Like it turns out that installing a house that was occupied EVER by a sim, say during playtesting, should not be done. A year or two ago it was accepted that was okay, as long as there was no sim on it currently. People used to use the stay-things shrub to keep depreciated furnishings intact. Now we know that somehow there are references to those sims that used to live there in the lot. I don't understand this stuff, but I don't really need to, I just need to know to follow the instructions of the people who do understand it.

Jaykenz's sister here. What's happening is that after we waited all night for the game to download, this morning when we attempted to run the program, it started to run, then it just stopped. After trying it in both Origin itself and using the desktop icon, we had opened task manager to check and see how well/badly it was running, and discovered it started as a background process, as it should, but then stopped altogether and never moved up to being considered a running application. The game refuses to run, even after we ran the Origin troubleshooter and it came up as cleared.

It also includes "The Sims 2 Happy Holiday Stuff" pack even though it does not show as a separate SP in the install folder. (I think it is SP3.)

ADD: Warning if you had the store edition any and all hoods will not work Warning.

I have a store edition in my Origin account but I will not add it to my game for I don't want it.
