Accessing Tutorial Neighborhood with SimPE?
Like it says on the tin -- is there a way to make the Tutorial Neighborhood appear in the Neighborhood selection list in SimPE? As far as I understand, it is hidden there due to its unique in-game status, and I've been looking to extract the appearances of some ancestors to Tutorial Joe and Tutorial Jane. I know people have extracted Joe and Jane themselves, plus the houses -- if not through SimPE, how would one go about doing that?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Realized that the sims I looked to extract are missing character data, so my quest would be futile anyway. Even so, I'm still interested in making the neighborhood viewable for research purposes.

Would it be possible to rename the neighborhood to make SimPE notice it instead of it being named Tutorial?

Been thinking about that too, but I'm unsure if that would require renaming a number of other files in order for it to work, and what those files would be.

I think that you also need to rename all files in Lots and Characters. I can't check what else needs to be renamed, because I'm away from my computer. I'd suggest backing up the tutorial hood and replacing it once you're done extracting instead of reverting to the old file names.

Don't go at it through SimPE. Go to the location of the Tutorial neighborhood, and open the neighborhood package file. This will open SimPE (assuming that's what your system has been told to open package files with; if it gives you a "say what?" message, tell it to default to SimPE for these files) and there you'll be.

Alternatively, instead of using the neighborhood browser, you can use the "open file" option in SimPE and browse to it.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

another way to open the neighborhood would be to click the file then drag to SimPE.
the location:: My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods/Tutorial

I made a copy of the Tutorial neighborhood. have not yet uploaded it anywhere.
the steps were these::
-creating a new neighborhood in game.
-removing the new neighborhood's files; I think the only exception was the neighborhood file.
-renaming and copying the Tutorial flies to the new neighborhood. and replacing the new neighborhood's resources with the Tutorial resources.

Opening the tutorial hood directly in SimPE doesn't detect the Sims correctly. I renamed everything to N099 so it'll load okay in SimPE. Here.

ihatemandatoryregister you were faster than I but I renamed my copy to T001 and have it on Sim File Share http://simfil.es/125796/
There is no hood pic but it still can be loaded up in a reg game but just remember even in the tutorial game EA deleted sims and this hood will be corrupt.

Just remember this hood can not be played as a normal hood it only allows SimPE to see it as it sees other hoods.

I don't like dropbox any way and Sim File Share is much better and safer to use.

Goddammit, EAxis. How is Dropbox bad, though? At least it isn't Mediafire.

I've never had any problems with Dropbox. My link goes directly to the file anyways.

Like I said it was a few years ago and once it happens then I do not go back.

Most web sites are not what they use to be.

The Tutorial Neighbourhood does not contain a Catalogue Description (CTSS) or a ID Number (IDNO) so the game (and SimPe) can't recognise it as a regular neighbourhood. It is the lack of an ID number that the game uses to prevent things from running that may damage it (like adding hidden sub-hoods on loading), if you do manage to load it in game as real 'hood you may harm it. It doesn't really matter If you do wreck it though, just delete it and the game will re-build it.

It is plausible to add more tutorial lots, in Base game \TSData\Res\Tutorial\ lays the EpisodeDefinitions.txt which defines the tutorials, I have added two additional (adult) tutorials into my game.
