Default Elite 4:Dangerous
Its official Elite 4 or Elite: Dangerous as its going to be called Is now going into production. For years the old amiga community had given up on Frontiers silence and David Braben (Creator of elite) Randomly appearing at E3 events and always saying in interview "yes its always on the cards" but with nothing new to follow. Well this week the managing director of Frontier made an announcement that despite everyones suspicions and criticisms Elite 4 is now officially on. Link below

There IS a god! hallelujah!

Now let's hope they don't screw it up... Elite 2 is one of my all time favourite games.

Well, now.
Elite: Dangerous has launched. Yesterday the game went 1.0. I didn't want to buy it for at least a few more months, but last week I started watching Star Trek DS9 and that got me into 'space' thing. I tried to not buy the game... but I failed. Shame on me.

So... Yesterday after playing for a few hours and paying a fine for discharging weapons near the space station, paying a fine for loitering near a dock, colliding with the station (what? I had to learn how to dock) and running out of fuel in deep space, I think I finally got the basic basics of the game.

I have to say... Elite is massive. I mean MASSIVE.
I flew around for a couple of hours, happily exploring the Galaxy... and then I learned how to use the map... It told me that I haven't actually left the first system yet... and there are 400 billion systems in the game. Yup, that's 400,000,000,000 star systems. That means that if you spent 1 minute in each system, and you play the game 24/7, it will take you over 780,274 years to visit all systems. That's over 780 thousand years!
Now... I played X games, I broke my first pc joystick on FreeSpace, so I'm not new to space games, but Elite is just... Beyond comprehension at the moment.

So far, I'm loving the game, but there is still a lot of work (for me) to do.

There are a couple of things that are a bit of a let down: no external view. What is the point of having a nice ship that I cant look at? I don't want 'playable' external view, I just want it for 'postcard' moments. Although I've read that it's in the works.
Other thing that's a bit strange is a very limited number and f available ships. I do expect that more ships will be added later as DLC.

That's me for now, any other people who feel like going space trucking?
(oh yea, I'm playing solo at the moment, I don't want other people to see me fail too hard now)
