hi guys, i can't find my other thread but i've been working on the residential [abandoned] warehouse still.
here's what i've come up with for the moment.

right now i'm looking for suggestions to improve the exterior, i've just started. i would really appreciate suggestions for the windows. i want to do something else with them to make them match up, or fit more but i'm not sure how yet.

downstairs is going to be the kitchen/recreational area with sleeping quarters, i don't really have anything down there right now except for a grody stove and not much else besides a firestove that came with the game.
upstairs is the public bathroom [it is public because it is not originally a residential area.. it was a warehouse. with workers. way back in the day]
so there will be stalls and writing on the walls, dirty sinks etc.
i'll try my best to use maxis items for the interior, but some things the original game doesn't have for the kind of look i'm going for.
mostly i've been using custom content walls and floors to create the 'look'.

If you werent doing the public bathroom idea I would've suggested this ..and this for the kitchen

Looks great
[To your 2nd line] I remember a warehouse thread a while ago.

Oh, one little suggestion, I can see the wallpaper you used for the exterior is one that you sort of do one of each to make it different instead of shift+click ing but there is one that is sort of repeats too evenly, you should make it a bit more random, as you can see in my attached pic. Also, the windows are quite modern and out of place. Unless you meant it to sort of be like re-done, touched-up paint.

Other than that, its awesome!

i see what you're saying. i kind of liked it like that though [the exterior paint], but i can change it.

i've already started on the kitchen and the bathroom, but i already have both of those sets. :P
i'm going to show you a picture of what the kitchen looks like right now. the inside is very dark, but if you still think i should use that kitchen set i could try that too.
i'll get up a picture of the bathroom soon. i didn't really go with the 'stall' thing because it is really small. it basically has a toliet, a urinal, a broken mirror, two communal showers and a dirty sink.

i've tried to make the kitchen look as worn down as possible.

btw, the lighting is so bad in this warehouse, lol.
all i have is a few dangling lightbulbs and a broken light upstairs where the ladder is.

**edit**

i didn't really like the windows at all, but i think some hardcore graffiti would go well here

or maybe in the back.
what do you think?

graffiti? you want graffiti? There is some great graffiti here by pixelhate. He also has a ton of run down looking walls of all descriptions. The graffiti is great, because it goes over anything, even windows!

wow some of that looks so familiar. DumbBlonde's trashed set, right? or is it paigeturnersims' filthy set? You do know that there is a phallic symbol on your bathroom wall, right? I'm not sure you want that. Someone just came out with a new broken bathroom set. You've definitely got the abandoned building look going on.

i'm aware of the broken bathroom set, thanks. i've already downloaded it earlier today but i was going for a way darker abandoned type look.
and lol, i'm very aware of the 'phallic symbol' you're referring to, but i think somebody else uploaded a lot with that wall so i didn't think it would be a problem.
i could always use something else for that wall though if it offends anyone.
and yes, it is from dumbblondes trashed set.

Hi Foxication, I have a new window set coming up soon - small privacy windows of the type to match the AL windows. I will be using them on a warehouse project of my own first though....

are there any warehouse- type looking windows you'd recommend for now though?

There's actually an AL matching set here on MTS2 that expands on the AL set.

No, thats why I am making my own. Try some other sites with a good share policy - holy simoly maybe?

My window set will hopefully be up by the end of the week.....if you can wait that long. You could try looking on sites for the belhooven maroo windows - that might be a workable alternative.

EDIT Yes, Fway has a great expansion there - certainly warehouse like, but I got the feeling Fox wanted a smaller window like the one on his screenshot.

Nice exterior color. I'm not too crazy about the split level though. The lower level needs just some more height. How about putting a half wall and using the same exterior wall paper. It will even out the height so its not so drastic but still give you that look? You need the black loft windows. Red seems too cheery. I love the grunge look of it.

thank you, i'll try some half walls.
right now i'll just work with some half walls to even the top story and the bottom story out.
if my game weren't already open i'd download some different windows. i'll look at what i have though right now.

**edit** the half wall idea was gold.
i like it better now.
i hope the windows look better too. suggestions?

Roffle! Sorry..I just find that picture hilarious. I have nothing to add other than my mirth.

Fake edit: I agree. The windows are better. Are you using AL? If so, what about using the duct work that came with the ep? And the drain pipes? Were the pipes included in AL or M&G? I got both at the same time and mix up what came with what pack. :p

I'm worried that my latest Salvation Army donation will result in homeless people looking like sluts from the 90s.

lol um the drain pipes came with al.
luckily i have that expansion pack so i guess i can add some drain pipes and duct work if you think it's necessary :P

My Dad used to be the guy that installed all the duct systems in some of the biggest warehouses and supermarkets in Britain. He used to point out all the different bits when we walked around Asda. It kind of removes all the fun from thinking there might be someone hiding in it, when he's just told you that it's impossible.
My Dad only did that job for like a month. Shows how interesting duct systems are.

Anyway, I think you should centre the windows a bit more. They look a bit... weird on the very end of the building.

I think it looks great. The windows are a good choice. I agree about centering them but also putting more. Ive seen real warehouses with those windows all in a row.
Maybe some weeds growing randomly might look good. How did you get the brown garbage can and mailbox? :O

the brown garbage can and mailbox are just recolors lol. i'm sure i've gotten them from here, i'd have to double check though. i've tried putting all the windows in a row, but it brings lots of light in.i could find a way to shield the windows from the light while still having them like that.

your second floor does look very good with the half wall. Does that car run, or is it just deco? I think you could do with some crates and things on the second floor deck. There are some here in the first post of items. And of course, some more on MTS2

the car is driveable i'm sure. it was under the car section. sims can't drive it off the lot though because it crashed into a tree.

thank you, i think i'll clutter some of the outside, upstairs, and living area with some crates.

alright, so i'm attaching some pictures of what i've been working on today
sorry it took me a while it was partly due to laziness and my game not working until i figured out i needed to delete a file [only took me five minutes to figure it out] lol but it hasn't been working for like 3 days and i didn't care until i wanted to open my game today.

but ok, i've been using some suggestions i think are good ideas, and i've figured out to create a seperate wall for the windows so it's still dead dark outside but so that whole warehouse window thing can still be there. please tell me what you think.
i've also changed the outside wallpaper just because, and i like how it looks now.

my only suggestion would be to change the half-wall into a different one... the top of that one is just too nice and new looking.. there are some that are covered with grey stone...
