Where are the updates? I tried searching and couldn't find anything about them. Thanks

Oh, thanks for your reply to mine too!

You need to right click on the UC icon in Origin and click on the check for updates and there are 3 of them so you need to do it until it says you are up to date.

This is the installed folder with a downloads folder already there. Image 1 shows Items the folders under EA, image 2 shows whats in the bottom folder (CEP). These were added by EA. the Download folder has an icon for EnableColorOptionsGMND. My questions are, is that download folder where we should add our stuff or do we still make a folder where it normally goes? Is CEP still required for things to show up?

That's interesting, so EA have added CEP? Is that the update?

I can't see that downloads folder within EA Games working - it's not within the sims 2 folder itself. But perhaps the game also looks here. I suppose an easy way to test would be to put an item of CC in that folder and start up the game, then check whether it shows up.

Did you get the Manual CEP or the auto CEP for the UC you need to do the Manual install and the dir is in the zip.

This is in the manual install instruction.
Quote:
a) _EnableColorOptionsGMND.package:
This file must be copied into your Downloads folder (overwriting any older version you might already have in there).

b) _EnableColorOptionsMMAT.package:
This file must be copied into your *PROGRAM* installation folder (not in the Documents folder!).
In a standard installation, the exact path is C:\PROGRAM FILES\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Sims3D
but if you have changed the installation path while installing the game, it may be different.
NOTE 1: regardless your game configuration (i.e. the EPs that you have installed), the location for the MMAT file is always the one pointed out above.
NOTE 2: The name of the folder "The Sims 2" may be different, if your game is installed in other languages than English.

c) "Extras" folder:
Open it and you will find 2 subfolders, "MyDocuments" and "ProgramFiles".

c1) Open the "MyDocuments" folder and move the entire "zCEP-EXTRA" subfolder, along with the several files contained in it, in:
(My Documents)\EA Games\The Sims 2
NOTE: *DO NOT* put the "zCEP-EXTRA" folder into the Downloads. It goes into the main "The Sims 2" folder!
c2) Open the "ProgramFiles" folder and move the entire "zCEP-EXTRA" subfolder, along with the several files contained in it, in:
(Program Files)\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog
NOTE: I mean the PROGRAM FILES folder! It's the one where you installed THE GAME (usually, C:\Program Files)

NB: the leading "z" in the name "zCEP-EXTRA" is required, it's not a typo.
NB: The name of the folder "The Sims 2" may be different, in non-English games.
NB: Each EXTRA component is autonomous, and you can freely decide whether to install it or not; read the documentation to know what is each EXTRA, and the decide what EXTRA to install. I suggest to install them all.
However, if you decide to remove one or more EXTRA component, be sure to delete the unvanted component from BOTH the installation folders (My Documents and Program Files).

d) "CEP_Documentation" folder:
Put the entire folder, along with all the documents contained in it, wherever you want. I suggest the main Documents folder.
The CEP Documentation it's not required for the CEP to work, of course: it's just for your reference. If you are NOT a creator, you don't need the two "Object_List" files.

e) "CEP_Icons" folder:
Put the entire folder, along with all the files contained in it, wherever you want. This folder contains the official icon set for the CEP, usable for website owners or creators to put the CEP icons next to their recolour or to set up a CEP info page.
If you are NOT a webmaster nor a creator, you don't need the icon set.

Where is says The Sims 2 it is now The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection.

I haven't add CEP yet but did download it. The one in the folder was already there, I didn't add it. I do have it for Sims Pet Stories, is it possibly working for Collections too?

And where do I put the normal downloads folder? Add stuff to the on in image 1 or where it always went before?

If it says to put it in the downloads folder then it goes in C:\Users\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Downloads

I have a question. As always trying to help people out but my Sims 2 times have been over for a long time so I wonder if anyone can help me out.

There's quite a few people that have issue with no hoods showing when starting the game. They have no folder in doc. It's not being created. Most people come from countries with non-latin letters (Thailand, Japan) but there's also US people with this issue. I believe that there could be a problem with that TM they have in the doc folder name.

Any ideas how to fix that ?

My post may be unhelpful due to my small knowledge in Sims 2, but I have to say this, just for information. When I asked one with said issue, it turned out that person didn't uninstall the old Sims 2 game before installing the UC.

So... the game is working just fine on Windows 8, HOWEVER I am having a slight problem. My wants are grayed out and not visible at all.

Any idea how to fix this?

Was this as a reply to my post ? If so, most people I've talked to, didn't have Sims 2 installed on their computers before.

We need to know if you have mods in your game if so then you may have a mod conflict which either an updated mod will fix it or a load order may fix it.

All mods need to work in AL/M&G game engine.

Yes, it was. Well, I expected my reply not to be very helpful.
To add some ideas, the only thing I can come up with is to try to create this folder manually. For example, someone uploads their new shiny folder somewhere, and the person who doesn't have it downloads it and places into their documents. Then starts the game and sees what happens. (Consider this as brainstorming, because I have no idea if this could work.)

I have found out on another forum that some have there My Doc folder set to read only and when they unset it the game worked.
Some antivirus programs stops the game from make the folder in my doc.
Some have had to turn off "User Account Control" until the game was up and running.

Out of all this to me it sounds more like a windows problem and not a game problem.

Or a problem with your antivirus.

No mods at all. Clean fresh install right from Origin.

So I have just got this UC.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but from what I can gather I must back-up my current Sims 2 and uninstall them all before installing the UC. Is this correct?

After which I will need to track down updated versions of my mods?

Just looking for clarification here.

Yes that is correct and the mods need to work in AL/M&G game engine.

Should I even bother with the updates? I already have CEP installed and my current Downloads folder works just fine.
