Default Dragon Age Hype
I just finished reading The Calling and beating Origins for the 4th time. I'm rushing through Dragon Age II so I finish it before Inquisition comes out, but I can't get into it as much as the first one, mainly because Anders is so drastically different than in Awakenings. But good lord Alistair must be protected at all costs, what a precious dork. :lovestruc

I still haven't got into Awakening, my poor old computer isn't really up to it. Might be the first thing I buy once I have a new computer though.

I've just read Asunder <shame> - looking forward to meeting Cole in game. The game looks tremendous. I just hope it's not another EA cock up. I am telling myself sternly not to pre-order but I anticipate back-sliding. I said I'd never do it again after ME3.

From the little I've seen (been trying to avoid Inquis spoilers til I play it) it looks pretty good, better than what people were saying about DAII

Only played Origins. I played to the point where I realized Sten couldn't be romanced, and haven't touched it since.

I still need to finish the books, but I've played both games several times. I am really looking forward to DA:I :o
From what I've seen of it it looks pretty good? I at least hope so.

But I also like both Origins and II (though I see why many don't like the second game).

I thought some of the reaction to 2 was over the top. There are issues an no mistake but it wasn't an unmitigated disaster and there were some really good points.

I think many were also disappointed because they compared the two games too strongly? Idk, I know it had it weak points, but I liked playing it and that's what counts, right?
I'm just curious how they'll like the third game in comparison, then :D

Do you all already have ideas who to play at first? Which race and class?

I'm not looking forward to Inquisition. My Core2Duo 3.0 GHz had been doing just fine for the games I play, even modded Skyrim with RealVision ENB. But Inquisition wants an effin quadcore. If I'm going to upgrade for Inquisition then I might as well buy a new motherboard and processor as well as a new hard drive. This kind of thing requires a fresh OS install. The thing is... my computer RUNS FINE already. Games, why can't you be happy like Photoshop and Illustrator?

Technically, you don't need a fresh OS install to change hardware. You can use sysprep to strip Windows of all drivers and put it back into OOBE state (Out Of Box Experience).
Pretty good tutorial here, it's for Vista, but works on Win 7 and probably 8 and 8.1 as well.

I've done the sysprep oobe thing when changing motherboards dozens of times.

Oh thanks Gnat for that link - I'm going to replace my MOBO and processor soon - mainly for this game. At least to start with. Otherwise, I'm stripping the present build for parts. I'm hoping the game'll run on the current set up at least creakily as my current rig is just about over minimum specs but the plan is to replace stuff bit by bit.

queziacristina - thanks also for that. I'd not seen it. It's great the music is performed by people in a group (as opposed to making it on electronics) - makes such a difference.

So far I've been floating at Cautiously Hyped for DA:Inquisition. Probably going to get my feet wet in the multiplayer tomorrow morning. The text-based game Dragon Age: Last Court is pretty good if you like that kind of thing. I'd love a full size text-based game like that without the microtransactions limitation. The writing was just that good.

Maxon is it digital download or a physical game disc? If it's a digital download you can download a free VPN (like Softether or VPNGate), log onto a South Korean connection Origin will unlock the game for you according to the South Korean release date. South Korean's unlock in about 5 hours. If instead it's a physical disc though it's fun to catch up on the Dragon Age lore. Although avoid doing any searches on tumblr. Tons of spoilers on there already.

No, I'm still avoiding buying digital. I'll have to wait. I've still got one of the books to read.

I have Dragon Age: Origins on my gaming laptop, but I could't really get into it, you know? Maybe it's the graphics. I know the game is from 2006 or whatever, but still....

^Maybe because the combat is slow? There are mods to speed up the combat and make cooldowns faster, like by a lot. Also, the fade part at the beginning and later are terrible and have earned many complaints.

I don't know that I'd describe the fade part as terrible - I'm just doing a last playthrough before DAI - but it is a bit long-winded. The basic idea is ok and it's much faster when you play it a second and subsequent times (because by then you've worked out what to do). The Deep Roads segment is similarly long-winded though it has a better denouement.

Hi guys.

I'm actually a bit surprised that this topic is dead-ish, after all the hype.

OK, despite me not liking Origins (really not liking it) I decided to go through with it, and bought Inquisition (I did't expect that ). Sadly M+K interface is broken, I can't walk. That, for me, is a total turn off. I had a game for over a week, and I haven't played it yet beyond the first few minutes. I'm waiting for a patch that will add a "walk toggle".

Nevertheless, I'm interested in your opinions guys, what do you think about the game?

If you get it at all, make sure you get it on xbone or ps4 or that you have a good enough PC to run it at decent settings. I got the 360 version and it is as ugly as sin; the loading times from the menu screen are atrocious, even though installing it is mandatory; and texture pop-in happens all the time. It's not optimized for last-gen consoles and I imagine low-spec PCs won't do a lot better.

Beyond that, it has a variety of glitches, the most noticeable for me being the AI randomly losing between 20-90% of their health because they fell down a slope trying to follow you or for no obvious reason (Vivienne lost 50% of her health just standing around inside the pub at Redcliffe). Don't be fooled by the 'open world' claim either, you will collide with invisible walls if you try to jump up to areas not 'meant' for walking on, like completely flat rocks alongside a gorge in the Hinterlands.

Like with Origins and DAII, the characters are the strongest part of the game for me. While their development in terms of abilities and stats for combat is standard - very similar to DAII - their conversations and dialogue are great. At least, within the limits of the Mass-Effect conversation wheel style dialogue choices, as your character occasionally says things that don't match the impression given by the choice you made on the wheel. Also on dialogue, one thing that bothered me was that a lot of conversations outside the main plot tended not to employ any kind of cinematic camera and just zoomed in on your character while you were talking. That seemed lazy to me.

I'm not that far through the game yet, but I would never have rated it as highly as the typical reviewer has. Maybe it picks up later, but a lot of the stuff in the first open area (the Hinterlands) just feels like rote MMORPG stuff - go here, kill these bandits, kill those rams for 10 ram meat to feed the refugees (what about negotiating with some other entity for food), pick up 5 sacks of clothes so people don't freeze (couldn't I just haul the ram carcasses down to the crossroads and have someone use their hides to this end?), kill these knights, kill those wizards, kill that joker who gave you the side-eye, and so on ad infinitum.

Heaven's Peak, my CAW WIP
