View Full Version : Heres my thoughts on World Adventures...

I broke down today and bought this EP, despite multiple warning about the duplicate Sim/Vanishing Sim travel bug. Plus many others, like the 10-15 minute load time between countries.

And I am able to take a single vacation before my Sim comes home to a clone and then vanishes on his next vacation. He also has no relics, coins or skills gained on the trip. I tried a couple of work-arounds, killing off a clone, moving the clone out, but nothing seemed to work.

But you know what, I'm keeping the EP installed. I like the decorations and clothes and with the buydebug cheat I can get almost all the relics and nectaries and martial arts skills. I'll miss some stuff by not traveling, but I'm still content with what I can do. I'm sure something will make a mod for all the nectar recipes.

Since I spent most of today troubleshooting the pack, tomorrow I'll try building a nectrary and adding some martial arts dummies to my gym or building a dojo. Making someday I'll get really ambitious and try building a tomb, before that I may try importing one of the premade tombs into Twinbrook.

Overall, I'm going to treat it like an oversized stuff pack with a couple new skills.

I just hope Pets works better than this.

I never had that problem. I actually hate the traveling in World Adventures, though. I don't want to explore tombs, I want to have fun! You know, like in the Sims 2 or real life! So I never send my Sims anywhere and I always cancel their "Travel!" wants. I do enjoy the stuff as well though. But to be honest, the main reason I installed it was to be able to download more lots here, because almost all require World Adventures. XD I just hope with Pets I won't have to uninstall and reinstall everything...but then again, I probably will...ugh.

I've had WA installed since it was released and the only problem you mention that I've experienced is sims disappearing instead of arriving at their destination. I just save before travelling and if it doesn't work the first time it will work the second time so it's not a problem.

I've never had a lot of trouble with WA, especially after the first patch. But it came out a year and a half ago, so my memory is fuzzy. Just random things like when the sim slept in a certain tomb, the game crashed to desktop. And in the Tomb of the Desert Ocean or whatever it's called, there's a place with moveable statues where the game always freezes for a while. And after I installed Generations, my daughter's game crashed when she tried to return from Champs les Sims and she ended up deleting that game. But so far that hasn't happened to me.
But I also never tried to finish all the tombs which I'm doing now. So it wouldn't surprise me if I did start having problems.

Do you save or save a copy to Library?

My experience I wouldn't know the vacation was corrupted until I came home to a dopplerganger. Then the next vacation my Sim would disappear.

I've actually never had any problems with WA (as far as I know yet, fingers crossed), but I feel the same about the new deco things and clothes, that's all I like it for really! I don't like the whole idea of the 'quest' things, I don't mind the tombs though. I'd prefer it if it was more like Bon Voyage where you could check into a hotel and see the sights and such. Seeing as I'm a big fan of Asian-styled things, I love the Asian deco and things that come with WA. Well, that's my thoughts on World Adventures.

I think I found part of the problem. Someone on the Sims 3 forum mentioned the glitches happeans most for Sims created before World Adventures was installed. So I went into my game, created a new Sim and went on 4 trips without incident.

It's a shame that my older Sims will miss traveling with I managed to create a nectary, a dojo and even downloaded a tomb to explore that they can play at home.

I've had WA installed since it was launched and I've never had any of those problems you've mentioned. I'm not crazy about doing all those quests but I do them so that my sims can get their visa levels up and be able to buy a vacation home in those worlds. When I take my sims on vacation, specially if they've never been before, I make sure all needs are static before leaving home and plow through all the quests as fast as I can to get them the visa levels and to have it done and over with. I think quests don't belong in sims but that's my silly opinion. At least once I do all the quests and finish them all, the rest of the family doesn't have to do them all over again. I play MMORPG's with loads of quests and that's where I think they should stay. But hey, for The Sims 3... if it gets me my vacation home I'll do it.

I only just got back into Sims 3 but I had a sim get stuck on her third vacation (I was sending her to each place). The game would crash every time I tried to send her back home. I'm kind of afraid to travel now, even if I use a separate save file for it. It would suck to spend like a week on vacation only to find that you can't return and it was all a waste of time.

I have multiple copies of sims/households saved to the library, but when I send a sim on vacation I save the game just before they leave, and save as a new game just before they return home. So if they go missing in trasit I just go back to the save and try again, and on the odd occasion where travelling has caused a serious error I can go back to before they went on vacation and all is not lost (except the time spent on vacation).

I've always had trouble with WA. It's laggy and freezes often. Since I put in Gen, my sims would travel but the screen would open up in the foreign country witn no UA or sim thumbnail, so I would have to exit without saving and when I got back into the game my sims were gone. I reloaded and it's "better" but I'm kinda afraid to try WA. I really don't like the adventures, but I love the vacation homes and I haven't been able to rebuild them since Gen. Boo.

The worst thing is NOT being able to add in your own sub-hoods!
21 months on, I'm still having therapy over that.

I just had the same thing happen, my lady went to France, no thumbnail, no wants. But I think it was because she had a broken opportunity. She had the text in the opportunity tab, but the tab you have above your wish panel was empty, deleting the opportunity and deleting the cache helped, and she was able to travel without problems.

I think the only thing I've truly enjoyed about World Adventures is Photography and even that's broken half the time.

WA would have been probably my favorite EP. The vacations, tomb exploration, and photo collections are a fun idea for me. I just wish EA were more responsive about these things and release fixes regularly instead of every few months with a new pack (and new bugs). For now, until they fix it or someone releases a miracle mod I'm just going to take a break from playing altogether. It's too frustrating.

I'm sure something will make a mod for all the nectar recipes.
Hey, there is a mod that make Nectar making easier, Nectar Combinatorics:

There is even a custom career, something like Nectar Taster in the download section and if you don't mind spoil your recipe exploration, head over carls-sims-3-guide.com to collect the compiled list of nectar recipe.

I had great hopes for World Adventures, and at first travelling and trying to get through the various adventures was a lot of fun. but, THEN it started to get glitchy. It's makes no sense, that a company with as much money, that employs some of the best developers in the gaming industry, has fallen into releasing electronic headaches instead of games. The Sims 3 base game, on the day off it's release was so riddled with bugs and glitches, that for many people, it was just unplayable. I don't think that ANY game ever released inspired so much anger and frustration as the Sims 3 base game did on the day it reached the stores! Why do they keep on releasing new expansions and stuff packs, when so many problems exist? Why not spend their time improving the base game, and getting rid of all of the bugs? With each new update patch, and each new expansion, the problems increase. Why are each of these expansions and stuff packs made so differently that they don't work well with the one before it? World Adventures is now almost impossible to play. Sims, even whole families of Sims just disappear! They don't arrive at Base Camp in any of the three countries. Gamers arrive at their destinations with a blank User Interface (control panel), and the characters' thumbnails are only empty green boxes. Return home, and that Sim or family is no longer a part of the game. Some Simmers return home to discover they have a Doppleganger, and these "twins" cause major problems with the original. Taking a photograph can cause the game to freeze, or make Sims uncontrollable. A lot of people find themselves dealing with invisible Sims. Once these problems get started, they become considerably worse, and entire neighborhoods have become ghost towns, without any Sim inhabitants at all! The only cure is to start a brand new game. But, all that you've done in the first neighborhood is lost. This is a nightmare for Legacy players, and players working on other challenges. EA KNOWS all about the problems with World Adventures, but they are no hurry to do anything about it. Instead they concentrate on turning more bug riddled expansions. Many of us have been loyal to this game since the first Sims game was released. We've bought all the expansions and Stuff Packs, and own nearly every items in the stores. We've spent hundreds of dollars on Sims games and items. I also own The Sims 3 for DS, PSP, and Mobile. What I want to know is why doesn't EA show US, the Simmers as much loyalty, and give us a decent, bug free game? Putting a game on store shelves with so many bugs is just plain unacceptable. If EA continues to put out shoddy games, they are going to quickly find themselves plowed under by their competitors.

This is exactly what has happened to me, several times in a row. I was told that these glitches become progressively worse. The best solution is to start a new game. I'm become afraid to travel. I don't want to lose my favorite Sims.

I actually just bought WA last night. I've only gone on one trip and the only thing I've encountered was when I got back one of my sims became invisible. It might not even have been a WA thing. He re-appeared after going to edit in CAS mode with Twallan's MC. Other than that, everything seems to be working normally. I've been fortunate enough not to encounter too many bugs since buying TS3 in May and the EP's in the past few months. I like the tomb exploration, it actually requires some brain power. Keeping my fingers crossed that the game keeps running relatively smooth for me.

Edit: I spoke too soon. I went to egypt, returned, and now I can't do anything. Time to start a new game. :faceslap:

I liked WA a lot since the first time I played. It is like an adventure game inside TS3. Never had a problem with it. Until this weekend. I tried to send a Sim couple on vacation for the first time after installing Gen and patching the game. I had crashes everytime. It's not a DEP issue. I noticed there are 2 worldcache folders. One is called nameofthecity_objects.package and the other is nameofthecity_sims.package. I don't recollect seeing two of these folders though... :(
