Welcome to Bathelwaite Cemetery.



This Victorian Era cemetery was built in the year of 1840 on the outskirts of London, in response to the terrible burial conditions then in existence within the small graveyeards and churchyards of the city (there was no legislation regarding burial at the time, and grave robbing and shallow burial was common). The cemetery was named for the family on whose property the cemetery was built. Many Bathelwaites have been buried here, including some of the oldest, original graves in the cemetery. There are even stories (with many witnesses!) of three Bathelwaite ghosts who haunt their final resting place.

This beautifully romantic cemetery boasts two mortuary chapels, a two-story mausoleum, a small family mausoleum, a fountain and a beautiful Victorian Glass Roof. Entrance to the cemetery is through an arched gateway which straddles the two chapels.

Wow! What a cool challenge! I really enjoyed researching this era :o) Bathelwaite Cemetery doesn't actally exist outside of Simdom, but it WAS inspired by the very real, and very beautiful Highgate Cemetery.
